Abstract: A bowsprit for a sailing vessel having a deck and a hull. A supporting member of the bowsprit has first and second opposing ends and is pivotably attachable to the deck such that the opposing ends of the supporting member extend outwardly past the hull. First and second movable members of the bowsprit are joined at an apex. First and second movable members are for disposition substantially adjacent to respective outer sides of the sailing vessel such that the apex is forward of the vessel and the first and second movable members are supported by and are slidable over the supporting member.
Abstract: The invention relates to a martensitic stainless steel to be used for making a razor, surgical and similar blades or other cutting tools, which steel contains 0.40 to 0.55 wt % carbon, 0.8 to 1.5 wt % silicon, 0.7 to 0.85 wt % manganese, 13.0 to 14.0 wt % chromium, 1.0 to 1.5 wt % molybdenum and 0.2 to 0.4 wt % nickel, 0.02 to 0.04 wt % nitrogen, the balance of the steel being iron and inevitable impurities. The invention also relates to a method of manufacturing the said steel.
Abstract: A probe suitable for probing a semiconductor wafer that includes an active circuit. The probe may include a flexible interconnection between the active circuit and a support structure. The probe may impose a relatively low capacitance on the device under test.
Abstract: The invention relates to a method for comminution of material in a grinding mill, in which method the ground material from the mill is classified by means of particle sizes. After the classification of the ground material at least the part of the material having a particle size greater than the desired predetermined particle size is targeted to an electromagnetic energy treatment in at least one stage.
Abstract: A gas seal assembly includes a pair of mutually rotatable sealing members, each of which has a front face adjacent a gap between the two members which constitutes a leakage path through the seal assembly. The two sealing member are urged, in use, in a direction to close the gap and a gas bleed arrangement is provided for allowing gas from a high pressure side of the seal to bleed into the gap so as to apply a force tending to separate the members. The gas bleed arrangement includes a bore extending between the front face and a rear face of one of the sealing members, a generally radial groove formed in the rear face of the sealing member and a plate overlying the rear face to cover the groove and thereby define between the rear face of the sealing member and the plate a bleed passage connecting the bore to the high pressure side of the seal.

Abstract: A joint connecting a container corner support assembly to a body bolster and a connecting assembly portion of an end of a container well unit in connection with shortening a container well of a railroad freight car intended for carrying an intermodal freight container. A connector member is welded into position, between a transverse gusset plate of a container corner support assembly and a closure plate of a connecting assembly, to transmit forces between the gusset plate and the connecting assembly associated with a body bolster in an end of the container well unit.

Abstract: A device for holding a collapsible bag, such as a plastic trash bag, in an open and operable position. A rim supports the mouth of the bag, while a handle and forearm brace permit a user to hold it easily and without fatigue. The handle and brace are placed at the edge of the rim so as to leave the opening unobstructed and maximize versatility for both trash and leaf pickup.
Abstract: A tray and a clamp mounted adjustably on the tray and supporting a leg or other limb or simulated limb including an articulated animal joint or a joint from a cadaver, for use in instruction of and practice by surgeons in joint replacement or other orthopedic surgery. A bone mounting device for fastening a joint to an artificial bone includes an expandable engagement member that fits within a cavity formed within a bone to hold the bone securely so that a surgical procedure can be performed on the joint.
Abstract: A test structure including a differential gain cell and a differential signal probe include compensation for the Miller effect reducing the frequency dependent variability of the input impedance of the test structure.
Abstract: A waterproof garden shoe has a plurality of passageways located in the shoe upper. One or more tubes located on the upper are in fluid communication with these passageways. The tubes have an opening which allows ambient air to enter the tubes and pass into the shoes through the passageways to cool the user's feet. The openings in each tube are located below the passageways that communicate with that tube to prevent water entering the tube from entering the shoe through the passageway.
Abstract: A tool for separating an acetabular shell of a hip prosthesis from the surrounding pelvic bone includes a fixture which attaches to the acetabular shell and has a chisel guide mounted on it. A chisel associated with the chisel guide is curved to conform to the outer periphery of the acetabular shell, and the chisel guide causes the chisel to circumscribe the acetabular shell as the chisel is inserted between the acetabular shell and the pelvis.
Abstract: A method for controlling the operation of a solenoid (14), in which solenoid the movement of the plunger is caused by bringing electric energy to the solenoid, whereby an electric current flows through the solenoid, the method comprising the following steps. defining a model (6) for describing the current signal of the solenoid at certain time intervals from the activation moment of the solenoid onwards, measuring the true current signal (7) of the solenoid at time intervals corresponding with the model, defining a residual signal (8), which is the remainder between the signal of the model (6) and the true current signal (7), and performing a threshold analysis (25) for the residual signal.
Abstract: A method of producing a fluxing agent that can be used in production of steel, preferably stainless steel, employs as a raw material a hydroxide sludge that results from neutralization of metal-contaminated pickling liquid from a pickling step for a steel and contains at least one fluoride-containing compound. The hydroxide sludge is calcined. Steel, preferably stainless steel, is produced by decarburizing a steel heat, whereby a slag is formed on top of the steel heat, and adding a fluxing agent to the slag.
Abstract: An air flow conduit (98) and a related plenum (80) for distributing conditioned air from a refrigeration and heating unit (64) on an end (44) of a railroad freight car (20) into a cargo space (53) within the car (20). A deflector directs a flow of air upward into an inlet end of the plenum (80) and allows the flow to expand gradually within the plenum, smoothing the flow of air within the plenum so that it continues effectively at sufficient rates over the length of the car (20).

Abstract: A winch bar for use together with a strap winch to tighten a load-securing strap for a flatbed truck or trailer. In addition to an offset angle, the winch bar also includes one or more compensating angles establishing an obstacle clearance area defined by a laterally offset portion of the winch bar.
Abstract: A wiper drive system including a wiper drive mechanism driving a pair of wiper drive arms to sweep a wiper blade across a surface. The wiper drive mechanism has a motor driving a rack engaged with a sector gear that is supported by pivot bearings. Each wiper drive arm is driven by a sector gear.
Abstract: A computer-based placement and routing (P&R) tool stores a set of circuit patterns, each describing a separate device group by referencing each device of the device group and by indicating which device elements forming the referenced devices are interconnected by nets, a set of placement patterns, each providing a guide for placing IC device elements forming a device group described by a corresponding one of the circuit patterns and a set of routing styles to act as guides for routing nets between device elements placed in particular patterns. To produce a layout for an analog IC described by a netlist, the P&R tool identifies each set of devices in the IC forming a device group described by any of the circuit patterns.
