  • Patent number: 8115438
Abstract: An aperture closure member control arrangement includes a disc which rotates as the aperture closure member moves. The disc has a ring of teeth. A sensor, such as a Hall effect sensor and permanent magnet, detect the passage of teeth as a cyclic waveform of amplitude and frequency determined by the spacing of the teeth, and the speed of rotation of the disc. An irregularity in the form of a missing tooth creates an irregularity in the output of the sensor, in the form of a pulse of greater amplitude and lower frequency. Accordingly, pulses from the irregularity can be discriminated and counted to provide a coarse indication of position, or pulses from the teeth can be counted, to provide a fine indication.

  • Patent number: 8113158
Abstract: An internal combustion engine is described having a valve mechanism that comprises an SCP camshaft operating two sets of valves. The first set of valves is operated via a summation rocker system such that the valve lift characteristic results from the combination of two cam profiles. The second set of valves has a valve lift characteristic that is different from that of the first set. In the invention, changing the valve lift characteristic of the first set of valves by varying the phase of the inner shaft of the SCP camshaft relative to the outer tube of the SCP camshaft serves additionally to alter the operation of the second set of valves.

  • Patent number: 8109457
Abstract: A pulp lifter assembly for a rotary grinding mill includes an outer pulp lifter having walls defining a pulp lifter chamber and an outlet opening for radially inward discharge of slurry from the pulp lifter chamber, and an inner discharger disposed radially inward of the outer pulp lifter and circumferentially offset from the outer pulp lifter. The inner discharger defines a passage for conveying slurry substantially radially inward. A transition discharger is disposed radially between the outer pulp lifter and the inner discharger. The transition discharger has a first wall bounding an interior space and a second wall dividing the interior space into first and second regions. The second wall includes a guide that bounds a channel connecting the outlet opening of the outer pulp lifter to the passage defined by the inner discharger.

  • Patent number: 8094425
Abstract: A protection device for monitoring current in a power cable to an electrical device and for controlling a remotely located starter for the electrical device in response to a system controller. The device includes a transformer magnetically linked with the power cable to produce a voltage signal in response to the presence of a changing current within the power cable. An input circuit located in a single housing together with the transformer is electrically connected to the transformer so as to receive the voltage signal. The input circuit produces, in response to the voltage signal, either a first signal or a first circuit condition at the output terminal of the input circuit, representative of the changing current in the power cable. A switch circuit also in the same container with the transformer has a terminal for sensing either a second signal or a second circuit condition of the remotely located system controller.

  • Patent number: 8091467
Abstract: Hydraulic valve circuits capable of variably limiting respective maximum hydraulic pressures at which an assembly of bidirectional hydraulic power devices can move respective clamping members, such as forks or clamp arms, selectively in a closing movement toward each other, in an opening movement away from each other, or in a side-shifting movement in unison with each other, so as to provide damage-control capabilities for the control of the clamping members. The circuits preferably include one or more pressure-regulating valves interconnected with the assembly of power devices, and capable of variably limiting a maximum side-shifting pressure, at which said assembly can cause said side-shifting movement, in response to a maximum pressure selection. The circuits preferably include at least one override assembly, capable of overriding the maximum pressure selection to thereby lower the maximum side-shifting pressure automatically irrespective of the maximum pressure selection.
