Abstract: Methods and apparatus, including computer program products, implementing and using techniques for determining motion vectors to be used for interpolation of intermediary frames in a digital video sequence are disclosed. A first image frame including several image patches is received. A second image frame including one or more image patches corresponding to the image patches in the first image frame is received. For each image patch that occurs in both frames, the following operations occur: forward and backward motion vectors are determined for the image patch in the first image frame, forward and backward motion vectors are determined for the image patch in the second image frame, one motion vector from the first image frame and one motion vector from the second frame are selected and the selected motion vectors are used to establish an intermediary position of the image patch in an interpolated frame between the frames.
Abstract: A counterbalance assembly is suited for use with a fold out ramp having a ramp portion selectively movable between a stowed position, a neutral position, and a deployed position. The counterbalance includes first and second springs and a transmission element forming an endless loop. A first biasing element is coupled to the transmission element so that the first biasing element compresses the first spring when the ramp portion moves from the neutral position to the stowed position and compresses the second spring when the ramp portion moves from the neutral position to the deployed position. A second biasing element is coupled to the transmission element so that the second biasing element compresses the second spring when the ramp portion moves from the neutral position to the stowed position and compresses the first spring when the ramp portion moves from the neutral position to the deployed position.
Abstract: A lighting system (20) comprises a plurality of light units (1, 6, 10, 11), each light unit (1, 6, 10, 11) including a photo sensor (2, 7), a light source (4, 9) and a control unit (3, 8) adapted to operate the light source (4, 9) and to modulate the light emitted by the light source (4, 9) so as to transmit data, wherein the light units (1, 6, 10, 11) are arranged according to a ring topology.
Abstract: Described herein is technology for, among other things root image caching and indexing for block-level distributed application management. The technology involves storing blocks of a root image on a first storage unit and storing blocks of leaf images on respective second storage units. The leaf images include additional data blocks not previously contained in the root image and changes made by respective compute nodes to the blocks of the root image. The technology includes caching blocks of the root image that have been accessed by at least one compute node. The technology also includes receiving indexing results pertaining to the root image from one compute node and providing the results for other compute nodes.

Abstract: A sealed-type secondary battery is disclosed. A battery module of a sealed-type secondary battery is formed by heating and fusing a top lid member and an integrated battery container. The integrated battery container is formed with a polymer alloy including a polyphenylene ether resin and a polyolefin resin, and the top lid member or a lateral lid member is formed with a polypropylene-based resin. A nucleating agent is added to the polypropylene-based resin of the top lid member or the lateral lid member, to improve mechanical strength, and the molecular weight is increased to reduce a melt flow rate MFR to approximately the same degree as the polymer alloy.
Abstract: An apparatus for lessening variations in a state of charge (SOC) or remaining capacity of a battery pack. The battery pack is made up of a plurality of blocks, and slave units are provided for the respective blocks. Terminal voltages of the blocks are detected and supplied to a master unit. Variations arise in a state of charge or remaining capacity of the respective blocks for reasons of differences among the slave units in terms of electric power consumption. The master unit controls deactivation timing of the respective slave units incidental to turning off of a vehicle ignition according to the variations in the state of charge of the respective blocks. The deactivation timing is delayed much longer with an increase in the state of charge, thereby equalizing the state of charge or the remaining capacity.
Abstract: An offshore fresh water reservoir disposed a distance from the mouth of a river. The reservoir includes a flotation portion in the salt sea that supports a downwardly extending tubular skirt that defines a barrier. A transverse intermediate-density interface having a bulk density greater than fresh water and less than salt water is provided. The interface floats on the salt water and sinks in fresh water. In an embodiment the interface includes a plurality of balls filled with a liquid having a density corresponding to a mixture of salt water and fresh water. The reservoir is anchored in position, and includes a pumping means. In a reservoir system a curtain assembly directs the fresh water effluent to a floating blanket assembly, which further directs the effluent to a pipe that transports the effluent to the reservoir.
Abstract: An apparatus, method, and system are disclosed for providing AC line power to lighting devices such as light emitting diodes (“LEDs”). A representative apparatus comprises: a plurality of LEDs coupled in series to form a first plurality of segments of LEDs coupled in series; a plurality of switches coupled to the plurality of segments of LEDs to switch a selected segment into or out of a series LED current path in response to a control signal; a memory; and a controller which, in response to a first parameter and during a first part of an AC voltage interval, determines and stores in the memory a value of a second parameter and generates a first control signal to switch a corresponding segment of LEDs into the series LED current path, and during a second part of the AC voltage interval, when a current value of the second parameter is substantially equal to the stored value, generates a second control signal to switch a corresponding segment of LEDs out of the first series LED current path.

Abstract: A method and a system for detection of an arrhythmia and discrimination between different types of arrhythmia to determine whether to administer an electric shock to the heart, the method comprising monitoring the electrical activity of a beating heart, selecting a number of heart beat intervals that will comprise an analysis segment; determining an instantaneous heart rate for each of the heart beat intervals with the segment; calculating the mean instantaneous heart rate for the segment; determining the variability of the instantaneous heart rates compared to a mean; using a linear combination of the mean and the non-linear value for comparison with a predetermined threshold to discriminate the type of arrhythmia to automatically decide if intervention is indicated.
Abstract: A method, system, and products that allow for accurate localization, virtual depiction, and testing of nerve(s) or neural structures that course through or around a proposed surgical site are described. The method and system employs a variety of types of neurodiagnostic tests that incorporate sensory, motor, and mixed nerve conduction studies in an orthodromic and antidromic fashion as well as utilizing triggered electromyography. This method, system, and products allow for a much more specific and sensitive method to assess the baseline function and continued integrity of nerves and neural structures prior to, during, and after a surgical procedure.
