Patent number: 6822624Abstract: A display generation system that is able to generate display signals for an underlay image with at least one embedded safety pattern and display images for an overlay image. The display generation system and method are able to determine whether there are any anomalies or graphical errors when an overlay display generated by the system or generated by some other system is displayed simultaneously with the underlay image with the embedded safety pattern. The display generation system uses the embedded safety pattern to detect the occurrence of anomalies in the simultaneous display and uses information from its own generated overlay image to detect graphical errors in the simultaneous display. Flight display systems for aircraft can use the display generation system and method of the present invention to display an underlay image depicting geographical scenery in the vicinity of the aircraft while on the ground, during takeoff or in flight.Type: GrantFiled: September 10, 2002Date of Patent: November 23, 2004Assignee: Universal Avionics Systems CorporationInventors: Hubert Naimer, Patrick Gerald Krohn, Patrick Kemp Glaze, John Russell Jorgensen

Patent number: 6816780Abstract: Flight plan information is provided in the form of a series of waypoints having attributes which preferably include, among others, latitude, longitude, altitude constraint, and waypoint identifier. A flight path, defined by this information is modeled, and the flight plan model is checked against terrain information to locate any instances in which a potentially unsafe flight altitude exists. In flight, the flight path model is updated using aircraft position so that the path from the aircraft position to the next waypoint is reflected in the model. In the event that a potentially unsafe flight altitude is detected, an alert may be issued to the flight crew. The crew may then amend the flight plan or take other appropriate action.Type: GrantFiled: March 17, 2003Date of Patent: November 9, 2004Assignee: Universal Avionics Systems CorporationInventors: Hubert L. Patent number: 6157254Abstract: A control system comprising an electrical circuit that produces distortion where the electrical circuit has a frequency band of operation. Double side band pilot signals are located slightly outside the boundaries of the frequency band of operation so as not to interfere with any signals within the frequency band of operation, but still provide information that the control system uses to substantially cancel the distortion.Type: GrantFiled: September 29, 1998Date of Patent: December 5, 2000Assignee: Lucent Technologies Inc.Inventor: Robert Evan Myer

Patent number: 6137061Abstract: A printed circuit board that reduces parasitic effects on devices mounted thereon. The printed circuit board comprises a top layer and a bottom layer of a first insulating material having a first dielectric constant. The layers are configured to form holes whereby each of the holes has a first part extending through the top layer and a second part extending through the bottom layer. The bottom layer is further configured to comprise a second insulating material having a second dielectric constant, which second insulating material surrounds the second part of the hole. The devices mounted onto the printed circuit board have pins that extend through the holes. When the second dielectric constant is less than the first dielectric constant, the parasitic effects on the pins of the mounted devices are reduced.Type: GrantFiled: August 1, 1997Date of Patent: October 24, 2000Assignee: Lucent Technologies Inc.Inventors: Luis A. Aponte, Mark Benda, Joseph Peter Savicki

Patent number: 5944209Abstract: An outdoor assembly exposed to rain water has an enclosure and a cover. A first mounting means for the cover installs the cover to form a barrier to rain water for the enclosure rendering it drip proof or water proof. A second mounting means for the cover on the enclosure installs the cover to form a rain shield for the enclosure. The first mounting means allows opening or rotation of the cover about a vertical axis thus allowing access to the enclosure. The second mounting means releasingly engages the cover with respect to the enclosure generally at a right angle to the vertical direction, thus providing a rain shield for the enclosure.Type: GrantFiled: June 9, 1998Date of Patent: August 31, 1999Assignee: Lucent TechnologiesInventor: Bassel Hage Daoud
