Abstract: The present invention resides in a beverage making machine containing a purification unit for purifying potable water. The purifying unit contains a purifying agent and is detachably mounted on either the water reservoir or on the basket where water contacts the brewing agent or beverage making agent of the beverage machine. In an alternate mode, the water purifying unit is located below the water reservoir of a beverage making machine. The bottom member of the water purifying unit is detachably mounted on the bottom of said units with screw-on means.
Abstract: Terpolymers having enhanced pour point depressant properties are disclosed which comprise (1) an alkyl ester of unsaturated monocarboxylic acid, (2) an olefinically unsaturated homo or heterocyclic-nitrogen compound, and (3) an allyl acrylate or methacrylate or a perfluoroalkyl ethyl acrylate or methacrylate. A process for preparing the terpolymers is additionally disclosed.
Abstract: A flow cell for use in highly corrosive environments is constructed from a cross union and contains opposing probes each with an external sapphire window which is sealed into a metal tube contained in each probe with melted glass and an optional plastic seal over the melted glass. Each portion of the cross union containing a probe has a right angle shoulder which abuts the end of the tube containing the sapphire window. An O-ring gasket is positioned between the right angle shoulder and tube end to form a tight cover over the glass seal when the probes are assembled in the flow cell, thereby protecting the glass seal and plastic seal from the corrosive environment.

Abstract: The density and crush resistance of calcined coke are improved by depositing coker feedstock on green (uncalcined) coke, thereafter subjecting the coke to a heat soak and then calcining the coke.
Abstract: Hot melt wax compositions and a process for producing said hot melt wax compositions are disclosed. The wax compositions are suitable for coating fibrous materials, for example, paper and corrugated paper boards. The coating compositions comprise a mixture of a fully refined paraffin wax, a petroleum wax selected from the group consisting of a recrystallized heavy intermediate wax, a microcrystalline wax and mixtures thereof, a polymeric hydrocarbon compound, a tackifier resin and optionally, a phenolic anti-oxidant.
Abstract: Recarburizer coke containing not more than 0.1 weight percent sulfur and not more than 0.1 weight percent nitrogen is prepared by severe catalytic hydrotreating, followed by thermal cracking, and delayed coking of vacuum gas oil obtained from the vacuum distillation of FCC decant oil.
Abstract: Oil compositions comprising crude oils, fuel oils, mineral oils and synthetic oils having high pour points are provided with one or more enhanced characteristics such as improved pour point, viscosity or viscosity index by the addition of alkyl amine or alkyl mercaptan derivatives of a copolymer comprising an alpha olefin or an alkyl vinyl ether and maleic anhydride.
Abstract: Apparatus and methods for determining the Reid Vapor Pressure of either an overhead, side draw or bottoms product stream of a fractionating column used for fractionating a multi-component hydrocarbon feed stream into an overhead product stream, a side draw product stream and a bottoms product stream are provided. The Reid Vapor Pressure of the particular product stream is determined in response to the temperature of the product stream, the vapor pressure of the product stream, the rate of flow of the bottoms product stream, the rate of flow of the overhead product stream, and/or the rate of flow of the side draw product stream without further analyses thereof. The Reid Vapor Pressure indication is used to maintain the actual Reid Vapor Pressure of the particular product stream substantially equal to the desired Reid Vapor Pressure of the particular product stream and to thereby control the quality of the desired product stream.

Abstract: A hot melt wax composition and process for producing said hot melt wax composition are disclosed. The wax compositions are suitable for coating fibrous materials, for example, paper and corrugated paper boards. The coating compositions comprise a blend of a recrystallized heavy intermediate wax, a polymeric hydrocarbon compound, a tackifier resin and a phenolic anti-oxidant.
Abstract: The present invention resides in improved graphite nipples which are suitable for connecting graphite electrodes. The graphite nipples are prepared by adding mesophase pitch-based carbon fibers into a typical nipple extrusion blend.

Abstract: A process for coating a fibrous substrate with a hot melt wax composition is disclosed. The coating compositions comprise a mix of a fully refined paraffin wax, a petroleum wax selected from the group consisting of a recrystallized heavy intermediate wax and a microcrystalline wax and mixture thereof, a polymeric hydrocarbon compound, a tackifier resin optionally but preferred, a phenolic anti-oxidant.
Abstract: Terpolymers having enhanced pour point depressant properties are disclosed which comprise (1) an alkyl ester of unsaturated monocarboxlic acid, (2) an olefinically unsatured homo or heterocyclic-nitrogen compound, and (3) an allyl acrylate or methacrylate or a perfluoroalkyl ethyl acrylate or methacrylate. A process for preparing the terpolymers is additionally disclosed.
Abstract: Geometrical tennis lanes are disclosed which comprise a plurality of pie-shaped lanes forming a circle or a semi-circle or substantially circular configuration, the lanes are substantially triangular in shape. The tennis lanes particularly provide for upright-side targets that are strategically positioned so as to indicate if a hit tennis ball would be in or out of court on a full-sized tennis court. The lanes additionally provide a central target area simulating a standard net, top band of the net and area above the net. In addition, a tennis net is provided that is removably connected between two side wall support posts to simulate the area in a normal court for hitting volley shots. Each tennis lane is separated from other lanes by side walls, thus allowing a number of players to practice simultaneously. Additionally, each lane is equipped with tennis ball-throwing means and a simple means for automatically collecting tennis balls.

Abstract: Binder pitch is prepared by combining a petroleum aromatic mineral oil thermal tar and super finely subdivided calcined premium coke particles. The petroleum aromatic mineral oil thermal tar is obtained by hydrotreating, thermally cracking and vacuum distilling an aromatic mineral oil. Additionally, the aromatic mineral oil thermal tar may be subjected to heat soaking.
