  • Patent number: 4718932
Abstract: This specification teaches a method of manufacturing a curved windshield with an electrically conductive film thereon. The method includes the steps of placing an electrically conductive film, an oxidizable metal layer, and an oxidized metal layer in layered relationship on a flat glass sheet. A glass templet is cut from the coated sheet and electric bus bars are applied and dried on the electrically conductive film on the coated glass templet. A glass templet is cut from an uncoated glass sheet and the two so-formed templets are united with the coating of the one sheet exposed to the ambient. The glass sheets are heated and bent into curved configuration. Thereafter, a laminating interlayer is placed between the glass templets and the glass templets are laminated together.

  • Patent number: 4715031
Abstract: A data transfer communication system capable of handling both node-to-node data transfer messages originating at any transmitter and transmitted to a specific receiver on the network and functional command messages originating at any transmitter and broadcast transmitted to an unspecified number of receivers on the network. Receivers are programmed to receive and acknowledge receipt of correspondingly addressed node-to-node type messages and certain correspondingly addressed functional command type messages with their unique addresses in a predetermined field location of the transmitted message. By utilizing pulse width modulation techniques, binary logic signals and a unique start signal are defined and have a dominant hierarchy that allows for bit-wise contention of the common data bus. In that manner, when contention of the data bus is resolved a higher priority message continues to be transmitted while losing contender delays its transmission until after the higher priority message is completed.

  • Patent number: 4712829
Abstract: A side member support is provided for the front part of a self-supporting motor vehicle bodywork of the type having a floor panel comprising a tunnel. On each side of the front part of the vehicle, front side members which are formed from side member panels and have a box-type section and which are each divided in the region of the dashboard or the front part of the floor panel into two bifurcate side member arms. In conjunction with the floor panel the arms form box-type sections, and the side member arm towards the inside of the vehicle adjoins the vehicle tunnel and the side member arm towards the outside of the vehicle adjoins the sill. The front side members are formed from two side member panels integrally with the bifurcate side member arms, and the two side member arms are joined in the lower region of their forking by means of a strongly profiled reinforcement panel.

  • Patent number: 4710888
Abstract: A system for measuring distance traveled by a vehicle periodically updates the accumulated measurements, displays the updated measurements and electronically stores corresponding accumulations of updated distance data in a non-volatile memory device. The system employs a method of reading through the sequentially ordered storage locations of the non-volatile memory to determine the most recently stored correct data value as a value to be both displayed and used as a base value for subsequent measured distance accumulation.

  • Patent number: 4706615
Abstract: The invention provides an engine cooling system for a water cooled engine in a motor vehicle, comprising a radiator 18 totally enclosed within ducting such that air flowing through the radiator does not otherwise pass through the engine compartment. The radiator 18 is arranged within a branched ducting with two outlet openings, one branch being fan 20 assisted and the other opening into a region 28 of low pressure at the front underside of the vehicle. An undershield 22 serves to enclose the engine and separate air flow paths are formed for cooling the oil sump, the top of the engine and the exhaust manifold.

  • Patent number: 4703198
Abstract: A bi-directional interface circuit which functions as an output driver to drive a corresponding communication data bus in response to the output of an associated microcomputer and as an input buffer to communicate data from the associated data bus to the microcomputer, wherein such input and output data to and from the microcomputer is communicated to a single port on the microcomputer. The bi-directional interface circuit is controlled by sensing the impedance condition existing on the input/output port of the microcomputer and correspondingly switches to either its output driver mode or input buffer mode.

  • Patent number: 4694789
Abstract: The invention relates to a drive mechanism for connecting an input shaft to an output shaft and superimposing on the output shaft a variable oscillatory motion determined by the position of a reaction member. The drive mechanism comprises an input disc fast in rotation with the input shaft, and defining a slideway transverse to the axis of the input shaft. A sliding member is made to slide along the slideway by a block journalled within a pivotable yoke, the block being itself slidable in a second slideway defined by the sliding member. A crank pin fixed to the output shaft is connected slidably to the sliding member such that as the sliding member slides along the slideway, the phase of the output shaft is varied with respect of the phase of the input shaft. A second similar mechanism drives a weight with opposite phase in order to cancel out the reaction torque on the input shaft.
