  • Patent number: 8201826
Abstract: A game that includes a stylus with differently shaped ends and a housing having stylus-receiving holes therein that are in at least two sets corresponding to the shapes of the stylus ends. Variable visual indicators and sensors are associated with each hole, with the sensors operative to detect the presence of the stylus in the corresponding hole. A controller causes the visual indicators to be sequentially activated. The controller causes a different indictor to be activated in response the stylus being present in the targeted hole. Thus, the stylus-receiving holes are progressed through in a targeting sequence. The controller is configured to terminate an active game session in response to the earlier occurring of: expiration of the timer and detection of the insertion of the stylus into an untargeted hole. Various game modes are described, including with a vibration sensor and a moving housing.

  • Patent number: 8205140
Abstract: According to a method and apparatus taught herein, a network node includes a receiver circuit that determines soft values for received packets corresponding to the information bit groups associated with network coding operations, where the soft values are determined for each information bit group based on joint probabilities of the information bits within the information bit group. For example, first soft values are determined for the information bit groups in a first (received) constituent packet and second soft values are likewise determined for the information bit groups in a network-coded (received) packet that depends on the first constituent packet and a second constituent packet. Third soft values are generated for the information bit groups of the second constituent packet based on jointly evaluating the first and second soft values.

  • Patent number: 8202426
Abstract: A method of removing phosphonates from water includes directing the water into a first settling zone. The water is then directed to a membrane filtration zone and is filtered therein to produce a concentrate containing phosphonates. The concentrate containing phosphonates is then contacted with sludge such that at least some of the phosphonates in the concentrate are adsorbed onto the sludge. Flocculant is added to the sludge and the concentrate to form a floc-mixture which is directed to a second settling zone to form treated concentrate.

  • Patent number: 8204158
Abstract: A transmit circuit reduces undesired amplitude modulation (AM) in transmit signal pulses by substituting predetermined amplitude information for actual pulse amplitude information during portions of the pulse corresponding to nominally constant amplitudes. For example, GMSK and certain other modulation formats use a desired transmit pulse shape that includes a nominally flat middle portion. An exemplary AM reduction circuit detects generated pulse values corresponding to the nominally constant-amplitude portions of the transmit pulse and substitutes predetermined, preferably constant, amplitude values in their place. As such, the circuit may include a comparator used to detect the pulse values corresponding to variable amplitude portions of the pulse, which it passes through, and to detect those amplitude values corresponding to constant-amplitude portions of the pulse, which it replaces with substituted values. Such operation may include amplitude value filtering, and such operations may be modal, e.g.

  • Patent number: 8203475
Abstract: A parallel, multi-stage noise shaping (MASH) delta-sigma (??) modulator reduces the required operating frequency by predicting the inputs to later stages of a serial MASH modulator to be multiples of the MASH input. An Nth order parallel MASH ?? modulator generates N outputs (one from each stage) in a single modulator cycle. Accordingly, the Nth order parallel MASH ?? modulator may be operated at 1/N the frequency of a corresponding prior art Nth order serial MASH ?? modulator.

  • Patent number: 8204467
Abstract: The second-order inter-modulation distortion, originating in a differential passive mixer core from imbalance between devices, is reduced by compensating for the mismatch or load, by means of tuning the differential output impedance at the mixer core, or the input impedance of a filter coupled to the output of the passive mixer. Compensating for the imbalance allows greater suppression of even-order harmonics in the differential structure, which reduces second-order intermodulation at the output of the mixers. The compensation is achieved by tunable resistive elements that are calibrated by a built-in self-test architecture. The calibration circuit is deactivated during receiver operation.

  • Patent number: 8200267
Abstract: A robust method of page indication (PI) detection improves the probability of detecting a transmitted PI under conditions that decrease the probability of accurate PI detection. The method includes choosing a standard value of a PI threshold against which to compare accumulated PI bits when the probability of correctly detecting the PI is high, and choosing a derived value of the PI threshold lower than the standard value when the probability of correctly detecting the PI is low. The derived PI threshold value determination includes a factor indicative of a desired probability of accurate PI detection.

  • Patent number: 8199601
Abstract: An electronic system implements a plurality of voltage domains, at least one of which has a selectively variable supply voltage, without requiring the use of a large number of level shifters (e.g., for each data and/or address line). The supply voltage for a first domain is set equal or nearly equal to that of a second domain for a first duration, when the two domains are connected for data transfer across a system bus. When the first domain is isolated from the bus, its supply voltage is set differently from that of the second domain for a second duration. In the second duration, the first domain may have a higher supply voltage, e.g., to perform high-performance computational tasks. Alternatively, it may have a lower supply voltage, to conserve power, if its computational task is less demanding.

  • Patent number: 8200210
Abstract: In a method and device, simple hardware such as a standard User Equipment (UE), a mobile telephone, is used to collect the impulse response of a radio channel. The data generated is used to classify radio channels based on the impulse response estimates by estimating distribution parameters of the impulse response. This makes it possible to distinguish between different types of fading and hence, radio environments by matching the parameters to known radio channel models.

  • Patent number: 8195202
Abstract: The present invention relates to Assisted Global Positioning System (AGPS) high accuracy positioning in unknown cell areas. By using an approach of three alternative steps a reference position, needed for AGPS positioning, is determined. The first step involves using the location of any neighboring cell. The second involves using the location of a cell within the same Location Area as the cell serving the portable communication device to position. The third step comprises determining a fixed point within the same geographical area as the Serving Mobile Location Center (SMLC) is serving, and using this fixed point as a reference location. Using the three-step approach the AGPS positioning can be optimized, providing a possibility to position, for instance a mobile phone, by AGPS even though the location of the cell serving the phone is unknown to the positioning node operating the serving cell.

  • Patent number: 8186015
Abstract: A hinge mechanism pivotally connects first and second housings of an electronics device. The hinge includes a bracket, a floating shaft, a cam member, and a biasing system. The cam member is mounted on the floating shaft. The biasing system is disposed within the first housing, and includes one or more biasing members that allow the cam member and the floating shaft to move axially in a first direction. The one or more biasing members also bias the cam member and the floating shaft in a second, opposing direction. Biasing the floating shaft and the cam member in the second direction maintains the pivotable connection between the first and second housings, and generates the force necessary to yieldingly resist a user pivoting at least one of the first and second housings.
