  • Patent number: 8083393
Abstract: Disclosed are LED lamp assemblies that are substantially inseparable. The LED lamp assemblies use discrete components that are individually manufactured and then assembled in a manner that substantially prevents disassembly or disengagement of components. An interference fit can be used to substantially secure components of the LED lamp assemblies. Bonding techniques can also be used, including adhesive and solvent bonds, as well as thermal bonds, including sonic bonds.

  • Patent number: 8081408
Abstract: Disclosed is a protection circuit for protecting a rectifier circuit from electrostatic pulses. The circuit employs a first bypass capacitor that is connected between positive and negative power lines to bypass electrostatic pulses that have a rise time that allows the diodes to conduct and prevent damage to the diodes as a result of reverse biasing, and a second bypass capacitor that is connected between an input node and the negative power line to discharge the electrostatic pulses that have a rise time that is faster than the turn-on times of the diodes. Connection of the bypass capacitors at locations close to the rectifying diodes minimizes the effects of stray inductance that affects the operation of the rectifier circuit in response to fast rise time transient pulses.

  • Patent number: 8077884
Abstract: Transducers and resonators are embedded in body support structures in contact with a user to for the purpose of conveying musical sound energy to a user's body at selected frequencies and in selected patterns. Body support structures comprise beds, pillows, chairs, and other structures typically used to support people. The sound may be audio tones and/or music. The transducers and resonators may be incorporated into a foam component or in a coil spring component of the body support structure. Latex-type foams and beds made with springs are candidate body support structures for receiving transducer's and resonators. Electro-active polymers are also used as transducers. • Patent number: 8065848
Abstract: A system and method of manufacture providing reinforced structurally functional load-bearing members, including but not limited to using thermoplastic materials, such as High Density Polyethylene (HDPE) or polypropylene (PP), reinforced such as with an aluminum alloy, glass-reinforced polyurethane (foamed or unfoamed), or carbon fiber core element. Among its possible uses, the present invention has application for provision of structural support members, such as an illustrative I-joist product having a vertical center member preferably comprising a thermoplastic material, and top and bottom flanges having structurally meaningful reinforcement. The center member and flanges preferably comprising a thermoplastic material provides a relatively hard, durable, substantially weather-resistant structure. Certain embodiments of the present invention include reinforcing members having a plurality of lobes or arms.

  • Patent number: 8065906
Abstract: The present invention describes methods and kits for determining the concentration of free chlorine in water. To avoid false readings from other species present in the water, the free chlorine is reacted with ammonia to form monochloramine, which is then reacted to form an indophenol or an indonaphthol. The concentration of the indophenol or indonaphthol is proportional to the total monochloramine present. Subtracting the concentration of residual monochloramine from the total monochloramine yields the concentration of monochloramine formed from the free chlorine and ammonia, and is proportional to the concentration of free chlorine. Embodiments of the present invention will simplify and accelerate accurate measurements of free chlorine in water, without interference from compounds impacting present measurements of free chlorine.

  • Patent number: 8066953
Abstract: Apparatus and method for hydrolyzing biological material for safe disposal thereof without the necessity of incineration or use of disinfectants are described. An alkaline solution having a concentration and an amount effective for hydrolyzing the biological material is brought into contact therewith by means of rotating paddles which both pound the biological material into small pieces and thoroughly mix the alkaline solution with the material under pressure and at elevated temperature. Following the hydrolysis of the biological material, a chosen portion of the water is removed from the alkaline solution and from the liquefied biological material, such that the resulting product solidifies when cooled. The present safe disposal of the biological material does not require incineration thereof, the addition of disinfectants thereto, or the discharge of liquid effluent containing processed biological material into the sewage system.

  • Patent number: 8063309
Abstract: Disclosed is a leak detection cable that has an outer jacket layer and a four wire construction in a flat wire configuration that is twisted in a helix. Detection cables are disposed on the exterior surface adjacent openings of the jacket to allow for detection of aqueous fluids. The wire is twisted in a helix to allow adjacent detector wires to easily detect aqueous fluids. Disparate materials are used for the jacket and the coatings of the wires, to allow the jacket to be easily removed from the wires without affecting the integrity of the coatings of the wires. The four flat wire configuration is sized and spaced for easy connection to an insulation displacement connector.

  • Patent number: 8022684
Abstract: Disclosed is an external regulator reference voltage generator circuit that precisely controls the supply voltage applied to core logic to optimize the operational characteristics of the core logic 120 without using excessive power. An adaptive voltage and scaling optimization circuit 124 is used to detect the operating parameters of the core logic 120 and generate a voltage control signal to control a reference voltage regulator. The reference voltage regulator generates a regulator reference voltage in response to the voltage control signal that controls an external regulator which, in turn, generates the supply voltage.

  • Patent number: 8016440
Abstract: Disclosed are circuits that allow LED bulbs to be replaced regardless of color or construction of the LED element. When used for an LED light string, replacing an LED bulb does not affect the operation of the entire string. When used for other illumination purpose, for example, room light, the bulbs are interchangeable because they have the same operating voltage and current. A standardized input impedance is selected for all of the LED bulbs regardless of construction and color. A resistor circuit is used to create the standardized input impedance while optimizing the operating parameters of the LED element. The resistor circuit includes a bypass element so that if a LED element burns open, a series wired LED string will not go dark. This eliminates the necessity for parallel connected LED bulbs and allows enjoyment of other advantages and economies of series wired LED strings.

  • Patent number: 8000259
Abstract: Disclosed is a method and system for maximizing the use of available bandwidth on an ISP communication system between an Internet Service Provider (ISP) and remote locations where at least one of the remote locations has a remote cache. An embodiment may monitor downstream unicast traffic, estimate the downstream unicast bandwidth used by unicast replies to the remote locations, and determine a remaining multicast bandwidth available to send multicast messages to the remote caches. An embodiment may create a pool of the cacheable objects being sent to the remote locations from the downstream traffic. An embodiment may determine bandwidth savings for each object in the pool of cacheable objects that would be achieved by remotely caching each object and prioritize the pool of cacheable objects based on the determined bandwidth savings for each object.

  • Patent number: 7991927
Abstract: Disclosed is a store and forward device that reduces latency. The store and forward device allows front end devices having various transfer protocols to be connected in a single path through a RAM, while reducing latency. Front end devices that transfer data on a piecemeal basis are required to transfer all of the data to a RAM prior to downloading data to a back end. Front end devices that transfer data in a single download begin the transfer of data out of a RAM as soon as a threshold value is reached. Hence, the latency associated with downloading all of the data into a RAM 118 and then transferring all of the data out of the RAM is eliminated.
