  • Patent number: 6907913
Abstract: A device and method for mounting a tire (20) on a wheel (22) wherein the wheel is secured to a mounting table (48) and the tire is secured between the fingers (62) of a pivot arm (54). The pivot arm swings the tire into a position over the wheel wherein a sector of the tire beads (30 and 32) are laterally opposite the radial perimeter surface (38) of the wheel. The pivot arm is then advanced toward the mounting table so that the sector of the tire beads (30 and 32) contacts the radial perimeter surface (38) that is defined between the flanges (42 and 44) of the wheel (22). A button arm (66) advances toward the wheel (22) in an axial direction to cause a second sector of the tire beads (30 and 32) to pass over one of the wheel flanges (42 or 44) and position the tire beads within the second sector within a well (40) that is defined between the flanges (42 and 44) of the tire (22). The pivot arm then releases the tire and the button arm retracts from the tire.

  • Patent number: 6773017
Abstract: The invention is a single-piece seal assembly comprising an annular seal body. A retainer is positioned at a first end of the seal body. A rotable seal is concentric with the retainer and has a notch positioned on an inner diameter of a first face of said rotable seal. In the notch is positioned a single shim. The shim is of a length such that it is capable of providing a selected seal compression. An annular bellows having first and second ends is affixed to an inner diameter of the seal body. On the first end of the bellows is a ring holder. The ring holder holds a ring seal.

  • Patent number: 6769575
Abstract: The present invention generally provides a threaded tamper-evident closure having an annular hook-shaped flange extending radially inward from the inner surface of the tamper-evident band attached to the bottom edge of the closure body. The hook-shaped flange can be continuous or segmented and forms an upwardly angled surface for engaging the sealing flange on the bottle neck. A plurality of elevated areas extend upwardly from the tamper-evident band in spaced relation to the bottom edge of the closure body. The frangible elements connecting the tamper evident band to the lower edge of the closure depending annular flange may be configured to extend from these elevated areas as well as the non-elevated areas of the tamper-evident band. A second preferred embodiment of the present invention provides a threaded tamper-evident plastic closure having a tamper-evident band containing the above-described features, for use with a tamper evident push-pull resealable pour spout which is substantially leak proof.

  • Patent number: 6719001
Abstract: A rotary valve for directing fluid streams which has a circular stationary head having at least one and desirably multiple primary ports for connection with fluid streams at least one secondary port. The stationary head includes a number of first circular concentric channels formed therein and at least one second concentric channel. The first and second channels are associated with the primary and secondary ports, respectively. A rotatable head is provided having radial chambers, each having a first and second port for connection between a first channel and a secondary port. The rotatable head rotates against the stationary head and channels in a fluid sealed manner. An indexable drive rotates the rotatable head to interconnect predetermined primary channels and secondary ports. The timing of rotation can be continuous or intermittent depending upon the associated process of the fluid streams.

  • Patent number: 6696030
Abstract: A method is provided for reducing the chemical conversion of oxidizable or disproportionable compounds contained in liquid or gaseous process media which contact carbonaceous chars. In this method the carbonaceous char contacting the oxidizable or disproportionable compounds is first treated with a non-nitrogen-containing Bronsted acid. The acid-treated char is then heated to temperatures greater than 750° C. In this manner the inherent catalytic reactivity of the carbon in the char is reduced effectively and largely irreversibly.

  • Patent number: 6682667
Abstract: A method for producing self-supporting activated carbon structures is disclosed. The method comprises the steps of mixing a granular activated carbon, a binder material, a carbonization agent, and a liquid to produce a semi-plastic mixture; compacting the mixture using compacting pressures of or greater than about 100 pounds per square inch to form a three-dimensional structure; and heating the structure to an elevated temperature of or greater than about 300° C. to produce a self-supporting activated carbon structure. The granular activated carbon is of any particle size between approximately 4 and 325 mesh U.S. Sieve Series, and the binder is a ground cereal grain, cereal rain flour or a tuber flour. The resultant structure may then be cooled to near-ambient temperatures under an essentially inert atmosphere. Such structures can exhibit good mechanical strengths, adsorption capacities nearly equivalent to those of the activated carbon used in their preparation, and appreciable electrical conductivity.

  • Patent number: 6659020
Abstract: An apparatus and method of producing an elongate calibrated extrusion of a formable material. The formable material most suitably comprises a thermoplastics polymer having an outer skin (94) and a foamed core (91). It may be formed using an extrusion apparatus (100) having an extruder (101) and a co-extrusion die (104) which delivers the extrudate between opposed sizing conveyors (106). These travel at a speed suitable to allow them to continuously take up the flowable extrudate. The flowable extrudate is caused to adhere sufficiently to the surface of the sizing conveyers in order to cause the extrudate to maintain its shape. The extrudate is detached from the recirculating sizing conveyors after it has solidified sufficiently to exhibit the desire dimensional accuracy. Produce exemplified includes relatively high Young's Modulus composite product fabricated into materials handling pallets.
