  • Patent number: 5269387
Abstract: This mine roof tool bit insert, formed from a flat elongated body, provides opposed side faces, opposed end faces, a bottom face, opposed top faces and opposed intermediate faces disposed between associated top faces and end faces, the body forming identical halves rotating about a central axis. Each half includes a top cutting edge an intermediate cutting edge and end cutting edge. The top face, intermediate face and end face are planar and are rearwardly inclined to provide a constant relief angle. The intermediate cutting edge is inclined relative to a plane normal of the axis of rotation at an angle greater than that of the top cutting edge. The method of drilling a hole in a mine roof using a bit insert of this character includes positioning the insert, rotating the insert at about 200 to 1000 rpm and applying a thrust of about 1000 to 8000 lbs. to the insert.

Abstract: This apparatus (10) for reducing lumps of coal, and the like, on a grid (14) disposed over a material-receiving area (16) includes a carriage (12) guided across the grid (14) on a track (44) by a drive system (50) and having roll assemblies (60) mounted thereto. Each roll assembly (60) includes a drive roll (62) having stationary shaft assemblies (66,68) mounted to the carriage (12) and driven by an internally mounted motor (78), and a set of pick rings (64) mounted to the drive roll (62) at longitudinally spaced intervals and having pick circles with picks (90) pointing in both directions. The material-receiving area includes a conveyor system which, when the area is wide, includes a longitudinal conveyor (100) flanked by a plurality of lateral feeder conveyors (102).

  • Patent number: 5238219
Abstract: This thermostatic expansion valve (12) includes inlet and outlet fittings (22 and 24) connected to a valve body (30) having a diaphragm assembly (40) at one end. A replaceable cartridge (50) is disposed in the valve body (30) below the diaphragm assembly (40) having a passage (58) communicating with the inlet (22) and an end opening of predetermined size to define a valve port (60). A pin (72) is disposed below the valve port (60) and connected to the diaphragm assembly (40) by a pair of pushrods (76) so that the pin assembly (70) responds to modulation of the diaphragm assembly. A spring assembly (80) engages the pin assembly (70) tending to urge said assembly into a closed position.

  • Patent number: 5232015
Abstract: This inlet strainer (160) is for a thermostatic expansion valve (100) having an inlet fitting (114). The inlet fitting 114 includes an elongate passage (152), with an inlet opening at one end and a strainer-receiving opening at the other end, and a transverse passage (156) communicating with the elongate passage (152) between said ends. The strainer assembly (160) includes a closed outer end (162) threadedly connected to the fitting (114), a strainer tube (164) extending into the elongate passage (152) to a point beyond the transverse passage (156) and a closure ring (166) received in sliding relation within the passage (152) so that dirt is removed from the refrigerant before entering the valve port.

  • Patent number: 5228895
Abstract: Nitrogen compounds are a source of soil acidity. In addition nitrates are a major factor in the leaching of other nutrient salts from soils. These salts are then replaced by the available hydrogen ions, rendering the soil even more acidic. Besides supplying nutrients, a desirable fertilizer should offset changes in soil acidity brought about by nitrification. Calcium carbonate accomplishes this. Unfortunately it has not been possible commercially to include calcium carbonate in a fertilizer. If CaCO.sub.3 particles are ground too large they do not dissolve along with the agricultural fertilizer nutrients. If CaO.sub.3 is pulverized to a state necessary for dissolution, because of its hygroscopic properties, it hardens or cakes. It is not sufficiently stable in admixture with the other fertilizer materials for commercial distribution. Herein a fertilizer is provided which improves the condition of the soil, and stimulates microbial activity in the soil.
