  • Patent number: 4967187
Abstract: Method and apparatus for sampling the gaseous medium of a zone or area to determine the concentration, or changes in concentration, of submicron particles suspended in the gaseous medium of that area or zone using an elongated cloud chamber. A light source and a phototransistor are disposed in the cloud chamber and spaced apart so as to be electronically responsive to varying levels of light. A microprocessor is connected to a programmable memory EPROM and has pre-programmed data instructions on particle concentration levels. The EPROM sequences the microprocessor to operate the valves that sequentially sample the gaseous medium in the cloud chamber, and opens the exhaust valve in the cloud chamber to create a condition of reduced gas pressure therein. The sample of gaseous medium containing submicron particles then precipitates or condenses a portion of the cloud in the chamber in proportion to the concentration of the particles.

  • Patent number: 4966324
Abstract: A carrying handle for a carton for packaging a plurality of cans and having interconnected top, bottom and side walls, and end closure panels, includes a transverse slit extending completely across one of the interconnected carton walls. The transverse slit has end projections extending into the two walls interconnected with the one of the carton walls. A transverse fold line extends completely across the one of the interconnected carton walls and is spaced from and disposed generally parallel to the transverse slit. The fold line had end projections extending into the two walls interconnected with the one of the carton walls which terminate adjacent to the corresponding end projection of the transverse slit. As a result, the transverse fold line and the transverse slit cooperatively define therebetween a foldable transverse handle flap struck from the one of the interconnected carton walls and the two walls interconnected therewith, foldably joined thereto via the fold line.

  • Patent number: 4966591
Abstract: A needle assembly for use in withdrawing bodily fluids has a body and a hollow needle extending through the body along a centrally located axis therethrough. The needle has a first end extending outwardly along the axis from a first side of the body and a second end extending from a second side of the body opposite the first side. The two cover elements are pivotally connected to the body for rotation toward and away each other in a plane containing the needle about two pivot points thereon. The cover elements have free ends extending outwardly from the body. Each cover element has a longitudinal extending interior cavity with an open side. This cavity extends beyond the tip of the first end of the needle so that when the two cover elements are rotated towards one another into a closed position, the needle is entirely surrounded by an enlarged cavity. When the needle is to be exposed, the cover elements are rotated away from one another into an open position exposing the tip of the needle.

  • Patent number: 4964245
Abstract: A grinding tool body of a vibratory grinding or sanding tool has suction inlets at least in recessed areas of its working surface for sucking away the grinding dust by means of an external suction system connectable with the grinding tool body. The grinding element is in the form of a sheet of grinding linen or grinding paper coated on one side with grinding material and having a second side covering the working surface. The sheet serving as the grinding or sanding element has perforated areas coinciding with the recessed areas in the working surface. The grinding element is held in place on the working surface solely by the suction force produced by the suction system. This allows for the simple and quick replacement of worn grinding elements. The grinding material-free back or second surface of the grinding element is roughened. Preferably, for the purpose of producing such a roughening, at least two edges of the sheet are folded over, such edges being disposed opposite one another.

  • Patent number: 4955276
Abstract: A tap dance platform for producing pitched sounds in response to energy imparted onto the surface of the platform having a flat base surface and parallel spaced-apart supports disposed on the flat base. Disposed on each of the spaced-apart supports are a plurality of flat spaced-apart keys which define a sound chamber between the base and the bottom of the keys. The supports are spaced-apart to engage the keys at their vibrational nodes. On the top surface of each of the spaced-apart supports are resilient strips to insulate the keys from the supports and the base to enhance the tonal sound. There are also provided side apertures in both the vertical supports and the side walls of the platform, to allow the sound to come out and to determine the desired sound quality. The ends of the platform are also recesses so that sound can travel out of each end of the platform. Thus, tap dancers can dance on the keys and create unique pitched, percussionlike sounds resembling a marimba.

  • Patent number: 4951451
Abstract: The apparatus for harvesting crops, particularly seed crops, comprises a mobile support structure (20) and a crop stripping device in the form of a rotor (30), which may be attached to height adjustable arms and is driven by drive means (22). The rotor (30) carries transverse rows of crop stripping elements (1) which may be combined with transverse ribs. The crop stripping elements have prominent leading edges, for example each formed at the junction between two faces which are acutely inclined with respect to each other. The drive to the rotor is so arranged that during forward movement of the apparatus the crop engaging elements (32) are propelled progressively through the crop, moving upwards at the front region. Seeds and other plant parts detached by the action of the rotor are impelled into a crop flow passage (27) under a crop guide cover (21). A transverse auger (83) transfers the detached material into a duct (84) where an elevator (85) moves it over a screen (86) for separation of the seeds.
