  • Patent number: 7259257
Abstract: The present invention relates to a new, particularly economical process for preparing particulate water-soluble cellulose derivatives. The process involves forming a feed composition of swollen and/or dissolved cellulose derivative, and water. The feed composition is contacted with a superheated gas mixture, in a sieve-free high rotational speed gas jet impact mill, and the cellulose derivative of the feed composition is converted into a solid state form of finely particulate particles. The superheated gas mixture, with which the feed composition is contacted, is selected from: (i) a superheated gaseous mixture of steam and an inert gas; and (ii) a superheated gas mixture of steam and air. The superheated gas mixture has a steam content of 40 wt. % to 99 wt. %, based on the total weight of the superheated gas mixture.

  • Patent number: 7260050
Abstract: An apparatus for detecting physical marks from a wobble signal includes a matching value operation unit, a threshold value generator and a physical mark indicator. A wobble signal is converted into a matched signal by the matching value operation unit according to the waveform difference between a normal clock signal or a specific matching reference signal and itself, wherein the matching reference signal needs to highlight the existed physical mark. The physical mark indicator designates a threshold value that depends on the status of the wobble signal, and compares the matched signal with the threshold value to output a physical mark indication signal. The threshold value is selected from at least two different default values. Furthermore, a decoder is employed to convert the physical mark indication signal into wobble data with physical address information.

  • Patent number: 7255804
Abstract: A process for making photonic crystal circuit and a photonic crystal circuit consisting of regularly-distributed holes in a high index dielectric material, and controllably-placed defects within this lattice, creating waveguides, cavities, etc. for photonic devices. The process is based upon the discovery that some positive ultraviolet (UV) photoresists are electron beam sensitive and behave like negative electron beam photoresists. This permits creation of photonic crystal circuits using a combination of electron beam and UV exposures. As a result, the process combines the best features of the two exposure methods: the high speed of UV exposure and the high resolution and control of the electron beam exposure. The process also eliminates the need for expensive photomasks.

  • Patent number: 7256384
Abstract: A light scattering photometer signal-enhancement systems includes an adaptive sample and subtract circuit controlled by a computer or microcontroller (MCU). The MCU controls the gain of a programmable-gain amplifier (PGA) cascade that is used to amplify the raw photometer signal. In order to maintain the DC accuracy, the DC offset contained in the raw signal from the photometer is estimated by an algorithmic within the MCU and then subtracted from the raw signal before allowing it to be amplified by the PGA cascade. In addition to DC estimation and adaptive cancellation, the MCU applies a digital filtering scheme to compensate irrelevant frequency bands in the amplified signal and offers user determined averaging functions for additional signal conditioning. Moreover, hardware filters are used to prevent signal aliasing by the analog to digital converters (ADC) and a 60 Hz notch filter suppresses general electrical noise.
