  • Patent number: 4552761
Abstract: The invention relates to SERUM-DERIVED "LEUKORECRUITIN", which is A PROTEIN MEDIATOR OF INFLAMMATION FROM MAMMALIAN SERUM specifically inducing positive leukocytosis reaction and leukocyte recruitment from the bone marrow into the blood of animals and humans without biological side-reactions. The process for the production and isolation of leukorecruitin is characterized in that mammalian serum is subjected to regulated and limited proteolysis by contact activation, the protein is then separated from other foreign constituents and proteins of serum in the form of a crude serum protein concentrate fraction, and/or the protein is separated from other serum-proteins by chromatography on hydroxy-apatite. Leukorecruitin has very valuable pharmacological effects and can be used in compositions for specifically influencing the defense state of the animal or human body and for diagnostic purposes in hematological disorders.

  • Patent number: 4551218
Abstract: In an electrolytic reduction cell in which molten metal is produced by electrolysis of a molten electrolyte, less dense than the molten metal product, the molten product metal collects at the bottom of the cell. A filter is provided at this location and is constructed from a material which is resistant to attack by both the molten metal and molten electrolyte, and which is wetted by the molten metal, but not by the electrolyte. By correcting sizing of the passage or passages in the filter molten metal product can be drawn out of the cell without simultaneous withdrawal of molten electrolyte. In the case of a cell for the production of aluminium the filter is preferably constructed from titanium diboride.

  • Patent number: 4548099
Abstract: The transmission comprises a hydraulic power transmission device, a V-belt stepless shifter and a planetary gear train. At restart time when the vehicle is at rest with the V-belt stepless shifter in high gear, the hydraulic power transmission device is operated to shift for providing a relatively high torque ratio, rather than the V-belt stepless shifter. A smooth restart is thus made possible. In addition, the planetary gear train permits the shifter smoothly to switch between forward and reverse. Both features meet the transmission needs of all vehicles.

  • Patent number: 4546229
Abstract: A process is described for preparing aluminum sheet for resistance welding, which increases the useful life of the welding electrodes used for welding the thus prepared sheet. The process comprises the steps of: (a) treating both surfaces of the sheet portion to be welded to remove the non-uniform mill finish oxide layer and provide clean surfaces, and (b) providing a thin oxide layer on one cleaned surface and a thicker oxide layer on the other cleaned surface of said sheet, thereby creating a differential in oxide thickness between the surfaces of the sheet and hence a differential in surface resistance.

  • Patent number: 4534863
Abstract: A centrifugal filtering device including a filter unit comprising an open-ended sample tube; a filter support element, with a central open-ended passage, ultrasonically welded to the outlet end of the sample tube at an annular joint and having a seat at its outer end; and a filter clamped between the sample tube and the support element, through which liquid is forced from the sample tube when the device is centrifuged. The complete device also includes a receiving vessel, for collecting filtered liquid, removably mounted on the support element seat, and a cap for the inlet end of the sample tube. The annular weld joint is made relatively weak to enable separation of the support element and sample tube for recovery of the filter. The sample tube, support element and receiver vessel are made of polypropylene.

  • Patent number: 4533802
Abstract: A switch responsive to changes in flow rate of a flow of liquid including a chamber with a liquid flow inlet and outlet at an upper level and a restricted orifice at a lower level for continuously bleeding liquid from the chamber, such that the liquid level in the chamber rises when the inlet flow rate exceeds the bleed rate but falls when the bleed rate exceeds the inlet flow rate. A float-type level sensing switch is disposed in the chamber for producing a signal, representative of a change in inlet flow rate, when the liquid level in the chamber passes through a predetermined level intermediate the outlet and the orifice. An adjusting element such as a screw projecting transversely into the orifice may be provided to enable variation of orifice cross-sectional area thereby to set the bleed rate at a desired value.
