  • Patent number: 4709393
Abstract: A processing system includes a processor 10 and frame store 11. Both the frame store and processor are under the control of address mechanism 12. An incoming pixel is processed with previously stored information and the proportion of processed information restored is controlled to prevent errors in picture information density as store location may be accessed a number of times in a frame period. The addressing mechanism 12 can generate the desired information from address information which is only provided on some of the store locations and which is only updated over more than one frame period. The mechanism includes spatial and temporal interpolators to effect this operation.

  • Patent number: 4708721
Abstract: Materials, such as pollutants, solvents and the like, in a fluid stream, such as a gaseous stream or liquid stream, are removed by contacting the fluid stream with a liquid selective solvent or absorbent for the material or pollutant to be removed. In the case where the fluid stream being treated with the liquid selective solvent is a liquid stream, the liquid selective solvent employed is substantially immiscible with respect to the liquid stream being treated. After contact with the fluid stream being treated the liquid selective solvent, now having the material or pollutant to be removed dissolved therein, is removed from and heated, preferably under a reduced pressure relative to the initial contact of the liquid selective solvent with the fluid stream, gaseous or liquid, to release the material or pollutant therefrom, the material or pollutant then being separately recovered.

  • Patent number: 4707745
Abstract: A digital copier for reproducing images carried in a document by converting them to an electrical binary or recording/non-recording signal and recording the binary signal. The copier includes a halftone image processor unit for generating a binary signal associated with a halftone image included in the scanned document images, and a binarizer unit for generating a binary signal associated with a two-level image included in the document images. The copier also includes an image region decision unit for determining to which one of a halftone image region and a two-level image region a pixel of a document image which is to be read belongs. The decision is made using binary data which is produced by processing the scanned image data with respect to a threshold level different from a threshold level adapted for simple binarization. Edges of the decided halftone image are processed in an optimum manner.

  • Patent number: 4704162
Abstract: Solid scrap metal particles are ingested into molten metal by use of a linear induction motor which establishes a strong upstream in the molten metal adjacent one boundary wall to establish a standing wave at the surface and a corresponding downstream adjacent the opposite boundary, which is preferably in the form of a baffle having a metal outlet passage beneath it. The linear induction motor is conveniently positioned at a sidewell of a melting furnace and a continuous flow of molten metal through the sidewell is established in any convenient way.

  • Patent number: 4703889
Abstract: A radiator comprising a plurality of longitudinally finned tubes formed from extruded aluminum and extending between upper and lower header pipes likewise of extruded aluminum. A water-tight joint is formed at the junction of each finned tube with the adjacent header by means of an interference fit nipple. The fins are shaped so as to define a gap between adjacent finned tubes through which air to be heated may be drawn. Such air enters a chamber defined between each adjacent pair of finned tubes and exits to the rear via louvers formed in the rear fins of the finned tubes, taking the general direction of arrows A. A degree of control of the heat output of the radiator may be achieved by rotation of a flap located at the bottom of the space between the radiator and the adjacent wall surface.

  • Patent number: 4696646
Abstract: The subject invention is a device for use in composite resin dental restoration and a method for overcoming the difficulty of establishing sufficient separation to provide firm and properly located interproximal contact. This invention creates an easy, predictable method for establishing proper interproximal contact pressure and anatomical form. The wedge is used in a method which establishes predicatable interproximal static contour relationships with matrix systems, providing the necessary additional interproximal separation and reducing the thickness of the composite resin to be cured by light catalysis to insure more complete curing in the deeper recesses in the cavity preparation.
