  • Patent number: 4656389
Abstract: A novel color selection electrode assembly is utilized in screening a pattern of phosphor areas upon the faceplate of a color cathode ray tube. The faceplate, which is formed of a material having a predetermined temperature coefficient of expansion, has registration affording means. The aforesaid assembly comprises an auxiliary mount formed of a material having a temperature coefficient of expansion greater than that of the faceplate and has a central opening of such span as to enable the mount to surround the periphery of the faceplate. Index bosses, cooperable with the faceplate registration affording means, are detachably secured to the mount. A planar metal foil having a predetermined pattern of apertures and formed of a material having a temperature coefficient of expansion not greater than that of the mount is secured to the mount.

  • Patent number: 4656388
Abstract: A tensed mask cathode ray tube has a support frame supporting a tensed mask adjacent to a flat or cylindrical panel wholly within the tube. The support frame includes an outer flange, a shelf extending radially inwardly from the flange and providing a support surface for the tensed mask, and an elongated skirt directed rearwardly from the shelf and adapted to join to the remainder of the CRT. The support frame forms a major part of the CRT envelope and includes strengthening ribs extending from the outer flange to the elongated skirt. The support frame resists deformation by tensile forces exerted by the tensed mask and discontinuity stresses imposed by the flat panel upon tube evacuation. The Q-distance between the mask support surface and the inner surface of the flat panel is determined by the support surface being offset from the seal surface.

  • Patent number: 4645870
Abstract: Apparatus for use in a touch control system capable of recognizing touch positions along a predetermined coordinate axis on a touch surface comprises a substrate having such a surface that is capable of propagating surface acoustic waves and is so characterized that a touch thereon causes a perturbation of a surface wave propagating through the region of the touch. An input transducer coupled to that surface launches a multiplicity of different frequency SAW's along a first path on the surface. A dispersive array of SAW reflective elements formed along a first path on the substrate surface derives a plurality of different frequency wave components from the launched SAW. Each derived component is reflected from a different location along the array. The components are directed across the touch surface in a progression of paths transverse to and intersecting the coordinate axis so that each path corresponds to a component of a predetermined different frequency CODE 13TS.

  • Patent number: 4644100
Abstract: A system for recognizing and locating a touch induced perturbation of a surface acoustic wave propagating along one of a multiplicity of paths disposed transverse to a predetermined coordinate axis on a surface of a touch panel and for utilizing the magnitude of the perturbation to produce a control effect. The system comprises a substrate having a surface capable of propagating surface acoustic waves and is so characterized that a touch on that surface causes amplitude damping of a surface wave passing through the region of touch which damping is related to touch pressure. A transducer, responsive to touch-perturbated surface waves develops an output signal having a first characteristic indicative of the position of the touch on the substrate surface and having a second characteristic indicative of touch pressure.

  • Patent number: 4642423
Abstract: Apparatus for use in a touch control system for a cathode ray tube, display panel or other touch-controlled device which is capable of recognizing touch positions along a predetermined coordinate axis on a curved touch surface comprises a substrate comprising a sector of a three dimensionally curved surface having a touch surface capable of propagating surface acoustic waves such that a touch on that surface causes a perturbation of a surface wave propagating through the region of the touch. An input surface wave transducer mechanically and acoustically coupled to the touch surface of the substrate, upon excitation launches a burst of surface acoustic waves on the touch surface along a first path which represents a great circle on that surface.

  • Patent number: 4559019
Abstract: Apparatus for automatically aligning a tri-beam electron gun mount, which mount includes an electrode having an optical passage therethrough, relative to the phosphor pattern in a CRT bulb destined to receive the mount. The gun mount is rotatably supported, with its geometric axis coincident with an extension of the bulb's neck axis, for presentation to a driver. A laser beam is split to form a pair of beams which are directed along paths which intersect within the optical passage and are thereafter individually intercepted by an assigned light detector. The detectors develop signals which are applied to an error detector comprising a differential amplifier. A central signal derived from the amplifier energizes the gun mount driver which rotates the gun mount until identical signals are outputed by the light detectors. With the gun mount then optimally oriented, it is locked preparatory to its insertion in the CRT bulb.
