  • Patent number: 5177073
Abstract: A therapeutic composition derived from a pre-activated photoactive compound and a conveyor for destroying tumor or other pathogenic biological contaminants infecting animal body tissues. The conveyor can either be a matrix support or an antibody. The activation of the photoactive compound to produce the pre-activated photoactive compound is carried out by the use of an activating agent. The pre-activated photoactive compound retains its therapeutic activity subsequent to activation. A method for preparing such a therapeutic composition is disclosed. Methods for treating animal body tissue, either outside the body or inside the body, infected with tumors or other pathogenic biological contaminants are disclosed.

  • Patent number: 5091385
Abstract: A pre-activated therapeutic agent derived from a photoactive compound for destroying tumor or other pathogenic biological contaminants infecting animal body tissues. The activation of the photoactive compound is carried out prior to the photoactive compound is being brought into contact with the tissue to be treated. The resultant pre-activated therapeutic agent, or mixture, retains its therapeutic activity subsequent to activation. A method for preparing such a pre-activated therapeutic agent is disclosed. Methods for treating animal body tissue, either outside the body or inside the body, infected with tumors or other pathogenic biological contaminants are disclosed.

  • Patent number: 4922875
Abstract: Apparatus for generating hot combustion gases and steam including a piston block with a piston reciprocally mounted in a bore therethrough having solenoids and sensors for selectively introducing hydraulic fluid into the bore on the first side of the piston to move the piston. Inlets and sensors for selectively introducing air and fuel into the combustion chamber comprising a portion of the bore and to initiate combustion are also provided. The hydraulic fluid used to move the piston is introduced into the bore in a discharge chamber in the bore on the second side of the piston, vaporized and exhausted into a well through an exhaust valve. The exhaust valve is biased toward the closed position by a pneumatic cylinder which resists the force of combustion.

  • Patent number: 4918357
Abstract: A dual-filament light bulb with associated adapter apparatus which uses photovoltaic cells mounted within the light bulb to charge a battery which powers one of the filaments. The adapter apparatus is designed to mount in an ordinary light socket which provides external current to the other filament. The adapter apparatus includes circuitry which alternately switches from the filament powered by the battery to the filament powered by external current in a manner which reduces the amount of electricity needed to produce a given amount of light.

  • Patent number: 4888833
Abstract: This invention provides a cart for positioning an individual's body on a toilet. It is particularly advantageous for transporting a handicapped person to such toilet and automatically aligning the handicapped person's body above the toilet. The cart has castors for easy rolling and also has guiding rollers that center the individual's body over the toilet when the cart is rolled backwardly over the toilet. The invention also incorporates a pneumatic system for raising the individual's body above the height of the toilet's seat when the body is pushed over the toilet and for, subsequently, lowering the individual's body onto the toilet seat in a position that enables use of the toilet by the individual.

  • Patent number: 4790113
Abstract: An adjustable depth truss for a flying table comprised of an upper and lower chord held in spaced relationship to each other by diagonal supports attached by connectors received within holes spaced along the length of the chords. The connectors are selectively positionable in the holes to change the angle at which the diagonals are mounted to the chords, thereby varying the distance between the chords and adjusting the depth of the truss.

  • Patent number: 4747402
Abstract: A method of ventilating an air breathing animal at a high frequency. A flow of gas is supplied to the first side of a piston mounted within a housing while the flow of gas out of the housing is restricted to elevate the pressure on the first side of the piston. A flow of gas is also supplied to the second side of the piston, which is connected to an air breathing animal, while the piston is alternately moved back and forth within the housing at a selected frequency, amplitude and period, thereby alternately forcing gas into and drawing gas out of the animal. The flow of gas out of the animal is also restricted to elevate the pressure on the second side of the piston. The flow of gas to the first side of the piston both cools the piston and housing and helps to equalize the pressures on both sides of the piston, helping to insure accurate conversion of the mechanical movement of the piston into a pressure wave in the gas on the second side of the piston.

  • Patent number: 4746826
Abstract: An electromagnetic clutch apparatus for providing a reversible mechanical linkage between a driving motor and its mechanical load and which is particularly well suited for use as part of an electrically actuatable automotive cruise control system. The apparatus is inherently self-disengaging, thereby limiting the maximum mechanical load against which the driving motor may operate. The apparatus is designed to be placed between the final output gear of a gear train and the engine throttle and yet overcomes the problems associated with such a placement because the mechanical torque which the clutch is designed to transmit is not directly related to the electromagnetic force required to keep the clutch engaged.

  • Patent number: 4744334
Abstract: A self-contained, solar powered unit predominately used for watering livestock. Fundamentally, the preferred embodiment of the unit is an integrated combination which utilizes a solar collecting panel to generate electricity for powering a fluid pump that pumps fluid into a reservoir tank. The reservoir tank, further, supplies fluid to an adjoined watering trough for access by livestock. The unit is simple, compact, and thus, highly portable while its operation is economical and requires little maintenance.

  • Patent number: 4732297
Abstract: A liquid concentrate dispensing apparatus having a removable and refillable concentrate tank with sensors connected therewith flush with the inside wall of the tank to facilitate cleaning. The sensors comprise detectors which include an electrically conductive housing, one wall of the housing is substantially flush with the inside wall of the tank. Spring biased detent members on the outside of the tank releasably connect the detectors with the dispensing apparatus when the tank is inserted to a preselected position. The tank is provided with two such sensors, one is located in the sidewall and the other is located in the bottom wall. When the tank is inserted into the dispensing apparatus, the spring biased detent members engage contacts on the apparatus. A current passes between the detectors on the sidewall and bottom wall when both are covered by liquid concentrate.
