  • Patent number: 4343143
Abstract: A binding for bundles of fibers in which fibers originating from at least one of the fiber bundles wind around the rest of the fibers in a manner locked by tension. Fiber bundles which are to be bound are deformed between deformation members and fibers are removed from at least one of the fiber bundles and are wound in a manner locked by tension around the remainder of the remaining pieces of fibers to be bound. Deformation members are positioned very close to each other, each having a profiled surface, and they can be driven in opposite directions with respect to each other. The fiber bundles which are to be bound are deformed in the gap between the deformation members.

  • Patent number: 4344178
Abstract: A decision-directed Costas loop demodulator, rather than employing decision circuits, i.e. sample and hold circuits, in the path of each of the I and Q channels, contains a single sample and hold circuit at the output of the crosstalk measurement subtraction circuitry that drives the VCO. Functionally, the same decision-directed sampling process that is carried out by dual channel approach is achieved, yet because the decision/sampling circuitry is located downstream of the crosstalk measurement subtraction circuit, it operates on a relatively slowly varying error signal rather than on the rapidly varying I and Q channel signals.

  • Patent number: 4344025
Abstract: A motor control system controls to be constant a reactive power consumed by a motor load equipment having a motor to be driven by power supplied from an AC power source and a couple of thyristor converters for regulating the power supplied to the motor. To this end, the motor control system is comprised of a reactor power detector for detecting the reactive power of the motor load equipment, a command circuit for issuing a command to specify the rated reactive power consumed in the rated load running of the motor load equipment, and a reactive power control unit which receives an output signal from the command circuit and an output signal from the reactive power detector to produce a firing phase command signal depending on a difference between them. The firing phase command signal from the reactive power control unit is applied to an automatic pulse phase shifter to control the firing phase of the thyristor converters.

  • Patent number: 4344026
Abstract: The secondary voltage of a wound-rotor induction motor is rectified by a multi-phase full-wave rectifier circuit of Gratz connection. An inverter connected to the full-wave rectifier circuit through a DC intermediate circuit regulates the amount of AC voltage fed back to the AC power source thereby controlling the speed of the induction motor. A smoothing reactor is disposed in one of the DC buses of the DC intermediate circuit, with its inverter-side terminal being connected to at least two of the AC-side terminal of the full-wave rectifier circuit through series circuits of a resistor and thyristors. A DC gate signal is applied to the thyristors in the series circuits upon detection of interruption of AC power supply, and application of the DC gate signal is ceased in a predetermined period of time after recovery of the AC power supply voltage. The system of simple structure can thus prevent commutation failure of the inverter even when the supply of the AC power supply voltage is interrupted momentarily.

  • Patent number: 4342517
Abstract: In order to permit the measurement of very small rotation rates, the rotan rates are measured by the Sagnac effect in a light path encircling an area. To accomplish this, two coherent light beams are coupled into the two ends of said light path of which a section is subject to perturbations that affect the polarizations of said two light beams. After the beams emerge again from the ends of said fiber, they are superimposed so that they interfere. The rotation rate of said light path can then be evaluated from an analysis of the interference. In particular, in order to reduce sensitivity to the perturbations, the two light beams are coupled with defined states of polarization into said light path of which a section is subject to perturbations, and the two interfering beams pass through at least one polarization analyzer, the azimuth and ellipticity of which is adjusted for maximum transmission of light which is the conjugate of one of said light beams coupled into said light path at one end thereof.

  • Patent number: 4342542
Abstract: A moving blade for use in a steam turbine has a turbine rotor carrying a multiplicity of radially outwardly extending moving blades, each moving blade being provided at its leading edge of the radially outer end thereof with an anti-erosion plate attached by welding. The turbine blade has thicknesswise protrusions formed on both surfaces thereof at a portion near the base of the anti-erosion plate where it is attached to the moving blade. Thanks to these thicknesswise protrusions, the moving blade has such a radial distribution of cross-sectional area that the cross-sectional area is greater at the portion where the thicknesswise protrusions are formed than at other portions which are adjacent to the above-mentioned portion of the moving blade in the radial direction. As a result, the stresses at the portion of the moving blade near the base of the anti-erosion plate are reduced.

  • Patent number: 4341442
Abstract: In manufacturing optical transmission filters having double-refraction elements, extreme care is usually necessary to provide the desired phase delay. To simplify the manufacturing process while still achieving accurate phase delay, a filter is provided with at least one double-refraction element comprising a single-mode optical filter mounted between polarizers. The double refraction of the optical fiber is sufficiently weak so that the .lambda. length within which light beams propagating with orthogonal polarization states in the fiber are mutually delayed by 2.pi., is at least 1 cm. In one embodiment, the optical fiber comprises alternating sections which produce linear double refraction with sections which produce elliptical double refraction.
