    Abstract: An electrode of a vacuum circuit breaker, having a high dielectric strength, large breaking current and superior non-welding characteristic. The electrode is made of a cast alloy comprising copper, 20 wt% or less of rare earth metal such as lanthanum, cerium or an alloy of either one of these rare earth metal with another rare earth metal, 10 wt% or less of a metal such as lead and bismuth having a lower melting point and a higher vapor pressure than copper, and 0.1 to 30 wt% of a metal of iron group. A part of the rare earth metal and a part of the metal having the lower melting point and higher vapor pressure than copper are crystallized in the grain boundary and in the grains of copper.

    Abstract: A light source for forming an optical path extending across a closed vessel and a light receiving unit for receiving light from the light source are disposed outside the closed vessel. A portion to have its temperature measured as lies in the closed vessel is provided with a temperature detecting device which consists of a temperature sensor and a light interceptive plate. The temperature sensor is formed to be downwardly convex by sticking two members of different coefficients of thermal expansion one over the other (the member of the larger coefficient of thermal expansion being arranged over the member of the smaller coefficient of thermal expansion). The light interceptive plate is arranged over the member of the larger coefficient of thermal expansion. When the portion to have its temperature measured has reached a predetermined temperature, the temperature sensor inverts the downwardly convex state into an upwardly convex state.

    Abstract: A visual information processing apparatus which processes image data produced by a TV camera to detect the change in image with the lapse of time. The visual information processing apparatus comprises a circuit which generates the data of coordinates X and Y that represent a scanning position on the image, a memory for storing a plurality of microprograms, a control circuit which addresses an initial instruction of a microprogram corresponding to the coordinate Y when the coordinate X reached a particular value that is specified by an external unit, and a unit for processing the image data from said TV camera in accordance with a microprogram that is read out from said memory, wherein the same microprograms are periodically read out by bringing least significant several bits among the binary data which represents the coordinate Y to correspond to an initial address of each of the microprograms.

    Abstract: In typical error correction coding techniques for use in multilevel signalling schemes, such as M-level QAM signalling, the full data stream is encoded. In order to eliminate the need for such extensive coding while still allowing for accurate decisions as to the received data, the present system and method provide techniques for only encoding the lower significance bits of the multi-bit signal. The more significant bits are left uncoded. Accurate decisions are still possible in the majority of cases with this technique inasmuch as the most likely errors in uncoded transmission occur in deciding between adjacent received signal levels. These errors are eliminated by encoding the lower significance bits without the need for encoding the more significant bits.

    Abstract: A light detector device comprises at least one pair made up of a light sensitive photodiode and a light signal reading MIS transistor switch. The pair is formed on an insulating substrate such as sapphire. The source region of the MIS transistor switch is contiguous with a photosensitive pn junction of the photodiode. The source, drain and channel regions of the MIS transistor switch reach the insulating substrate, thereby reducing the area of pn junction of the MIS transistor and hence the junction capacitance so that high signal output is available from the photodiode with high S/N ratio.

    Abstract: A thyristor chopper whose gate signal is controlled by a magnetic phase shifter is connected between a battery and a series motor of an electric vehicle and is short-circuited by a bypass contactor as soon as the duty factor of the chopper attains 100%. In the short-circuited condition of the chopper, the magnetic phase shifter remains idle and does not participate in the control operation although the instruction current and the actual motor current are kept applied to its control windings. Therefore, the level of the output from the magnetic phase shifter is indicative of the value of the actual motor current when the instruction current value is fixed, so that the actual motor current value can be detected by detecting the output level from the magnetic phase shifter.
