Abstract: A method shuts down and switches on cylinders in a motor vehicle internal-combustion engine. Injection valves are controlled by an engine timing system as a function of vehicle operating conditions. The shutting-down of cylinders is carried out sequentially according to a defined program. Vehicle brakes can be acted upon in a power-operated manner. In order to prevent a switching jolt when shut-down cylinders are switched on again, when the cylinders are switched on again, the running up of the engine takes place in steps according to another defined program and a braking intervention is carried out.

Abstract: A condensing zone is arranged downstream of the drafting apparatus of a ring spinning machine, through which condensing zone an air permeable transport belt transports the drafted fiber strand. A cleaning element is arranged at the transporting element, which cleaning element takes the form of, for example, a cleaning roller, and which is pressed using a light pressure onto the transporting belt. The rotation direction of the cleaning roller preferably runs in the opposite direction to the direction of motion of the transport belt. The driven bottom roller of the front roller pair of the drafting apparatus can serve as a cleaning roller.
Abstract: The invention provides for a fuel injection valve for a direct gasoline injection engine, a direct injection engine and an automobile using the same, which can prevent the deposits produced during combustion of gasoline from accumulating on the surface of the fuel injection valve, or easily remove the deposits therefrom. A reaction-bonded layer of perfluoropolyether compounds having alkoxy silane as its terminal group is provided on the surface of the fuel injection valve of the invention.
Abstract: A steering system has a steering wheel and steered vehicle wheels which are normally connected only controlwise by a control system, with the steering wheel actuating a steering angle setpoint generator and with the steered vehicle wheels adjusting a steering angle actual value generator so that the control system can actuate a motorized steering control assembly in accordance with a setpoint-actual value comparison of the steering angle during control of the steered vehicle wheels by steering. Axial displaceability of the steering wheel is provided so that stable mounting prevents vibrations of the steering wheel and the feedback effects on the steering angle setpoint generator originating therefrom.
Abstract: In a method and apparatus for compensating the influence of different air capacities in an internal combustion engine at idle with a plurality of cylinder-individual air control devices, the segment times of the cylinders of the engine are determined and at least the segment time of the cylinder that shows the greatest deviation from the average segment time of the cylinders is adjusted to reduce the deviation by changing the injection volume.

Abstract: A switching power supply includes a rectifying and smoothing circuit 6 coupled to an inductor L1 and a zener diode D2 coupled to the output of the rectifying and smoothing circuit 6. An internal resistor on the inductor L1 side viewed through the rectifying and smoothing circuit 6 is employed as a serial resistor for generating the voltage drop which is required for the zener diode D2 to absorb voltage fluctuation, whereby the voltage of the DC output 22 is stabilized.
Abstract: Spindles of spinning and twisting machines have a rotatable shaft supported in a bearing housing. The bearing housing comprises a neck bearing, a step bearing as well as a radially movable step bearing tube, which is arranged in an oil bath. The diameter of the shaft at the step bearing tube measures at the most six times the diameter at the neck bearing. Preferably, the diameter at the step bearing tube measures no more than between 3 and 3.5 mm. Thus the absolute bearing clearance in the step bearing tube can be significantly reduced, which results in a quieter running of the spindle and to a reduction in power consumption for the drive.
Abstract: A centrifugal pump having an axial inlet and an inflow guide device mounted upstream of the impeller, which guide device is composed of several fixed guide vanes, which on the side facing the impeller each have an edge pointing in or opposite to the direction of rotation of the impeller. The edge pointing in or opposite to the direction of rotation may take the form of a swirl blade (8) which is formed on the guide vane (6) and located in the vicinity of the wall of the inlet (2), and which has a shorter radial length than the guide vane (6). This increases the efficiency of the pump and achieves an effect which increases the breadth of applicability of the pump.
Abstract: A method and apparatus for separating and accelerating adjacent objects on a conveyor, which does not interpose fingers, fixtures, escapements, or the like, between the objects. The apparatus uses two adjacent sideflexing conveyors traveling, at least in part, in a curved path. Separation and acceleration of the objects is accomplished by taking advantage of the increase in velocity at the margin of the conveyor in relation to the pitch line speed where the conveyor travels in a curved path. The objects are transferred from the higher speed margin of one conveyor to the low speed margin of the other, faster, conveyor, at the curve.

Abstract: The invention is based on an electromagnetic actuator for activating a gas exchange valve. The latter has both an opening magnet and a closing magnet, between which an armature which is connected to a valve stem is arranged in a coaxially displaceable fashion. The armature is held in a position of equilibrium between the magnets by means of an upper and a lower prestressed valve spring when the magnets are in a currentless state. In order to be able to control the actuator better, a plunger coil is connected to a valve stem of the gas exchange valve and is arranged coaxially with respect to said valve stem. Said plunger coil dips into a radially magnetized air gap of an annular, axially magnetized permanent magnet.

Abstract: A method and apparatus is provided for correcting the airflow in a combustion engine drawn in through an induction pipe and measured in the induction pipe. The measured airflow is multiplied by a correction factor which is formed as a function of a value expressing the degree of the measurement error and a value expressing the direction of the measurement error. Preferably, the value expressing the degree of the measurement error is obtained by calculating the standard deviation or the variance of the measured airflow. The value expressing the direction of the measurement error is determined with at least one additional operating value of the internal combustion engine.

Abstract: A compact, portable clothes washer and dryer system requires no direct water connection or drain line and includes a feed reservoir for holding hot or cold water; a basket for receiving clothes and said water from said feed reservoir; a filtration membrane unit that generates permeate for rinsing said clothes and retentate; a motor for operating said basket; a pump for circulating water from said feed reservoir through said membrane unit and to said basket; and a heating assembly for drying said clothes in said basket. The system reduces water usage and gray water generation for washing clothes. The system is particularly useful in dormitories, small apartments, or other remote dwellings where water is scarce or where there are no water feed lines or drains.

Abstract: A locking device for a rotatable latching element with a bending spring is provided for a gear selecting system of a motor vehicle. In order to improve such a locking device in terms of the structural cost required, it is proposed to locate the bending spring on the latching element. A first end of the bending spring is mounted in a fixed location on the latching element and the bending spring rests at a distance from its second free end on a support located on the latching element. Corresponding to the free end of the bending spring, a shoulder is provided in the vicinity of a rotational axis of the latching element on the housing of the selecting device. To unlock the locking device, an actuating element engages between the fixed bearing and the support for the bending spring.
Abstract: A process for manufacturing hollow synthetic resin bodies or objects in which cores are produced in casting molds, then placed into molds of injection molding machines, and subsequently enveloped with injected synthetic resin material (35) which then solidifies. The molds are then heated up to a temperature at which the cores melt and at which the molten cores can be removed from the molds. The cores are made of shell halves (32, 33) which are assembled before the synthetic resin material (35) is injection molded around them.
