Abstract: According to the present invention, main and subcombustion chambers into which fuel is fed directly in an atomized state and in each of which a swirl is formed, are formed in communication with each other in a top portion of a piston, in order to use not only gas oil but also other volatile fuels of low cetane number such as gasoline and alcohol. Further, in order to improve the combustion performance, fuel is supplied into the subcombustion chamber in a finely pulverized state for easier evaporation, and fuel is adhered as liquid films to the main and subcombustion chambers. By so doing, ignition is ensured in all load conditions and it becomes possible to effect evaporation and combustion on the wall surface of each combustion chamber. Consequently, it is possible to obtain a combustion performance which is low in combustion noise and vibration and also low in the formation of unburnt matter.
Abstract: In a building wall assembly including an outer veneer wall, a series of laterally spaced studs, an upright laterally extending lower wall board spanning the studs and a laterally extending upper wall board spanning and secured to the studs and overlying the lower wall board, with the wall boards spaced from the veneer wall, a unit moisture reflector flashing strip of a resilient material having laterally extending mount, reflector and sealing portions, with the mount portion underlying the lower edge of the upper wall board, bearing against and secured to the studs, with the deflector portion extending angularly downward and outwardly of the lower wall board and with the sealing portion against the lower wall board across its width.
Abstract: A plurality of screen brackets are provided for attaching a bug screen or winter screen to a bug shield. Each screen bracket includes a first leg for mounting the screen bracket to the support leg of the bug shield and a second leg having a male snap thereon for receiving a corresponding female snap on the bug screen. The male snaps do not penetrate the shield member of the bug shield and therefore do not weaken or otherwise deface the bug shield.
Abstract: The invention relates to a device for displaying information on a reading unit for the blind. Instead of character fields arranged with certain spacings apart from one another for displaying Braille characters, the reading table is occupied by a dense matrix of character elements (4) with uniform line and column spacings. In the totality of character elements, certain character fields (6) are provided which serve for displaying the Braille characters. These are surrounded by other character elements which are not set in the displaying of Braille text, so that the Braille characters have the required spacing apart from one another. The whole reserve of character elements (4) is used for reproducing large-area graphics, large symbols, tables or the like. With a certain arrangement, described in detail, of the character elements, all of the information displayable on a viewing screen can be reproduced on the reading table, with the exception of reverse-brightness information and that displayed in colors.
Abstract: A quick change spindle adaptor for a power driven spindle having an axial bore and a tool holder having a shank axially projected into the spindle. A sleeve is secured upon the spindle and an outer shell is rotatably mounted upon the sleeve and retained thereon and includes a nut. A conical recess within the inner bore surface at the forward end of the spindle defines an axial bearing and receives a centering cone on the tool holder for maintaining an axial self alignment of the tool holder and spindle. Spaced threaded segments upon the tool holder are threadedly engaged by the nut for axially anchoring the tool holder upon the spindle and for biasing the centering cone into engagement with the spindle bearing.

Abstract: The roll forming machine includes a base, a motor drive, a power transmission connected to the motor drive, a rafted roll form assembly including a raft plate and a plurality of vertically aligned power rotated longitudinally spaced pairs of complemental rolls, arranged in a set to successively and operatively receive and feed there between elongated strips of stock, and a gear train including a plurality of gears and a drive gear interconnecting the set of rolls. The transmission includes a drive shaft connected to a gear reduction box having a power rotated sleeve aligned with the drive gear of the gear train. In order to change the rafted roll form assembly including the raft plate and the set of complemental rolls carried by the raft plate to another roll form assembly for making another metal part, a quick disconnect structure is provided which includes a drive clutch on the drive gear of the gear train of the raft assembly.
Abstract: A method of attaching a female element having an annular riveting portion to a panel and the installation apparatus. The method includes driving a punch through the female element into a panel supported on a die member forming an unsupported cone-shaped panel portion in the cavity of the die member. The punch includes an axially extending piercing end which pierces a small opening in the cone-shaped panel portion and an arcuate drawing portion which is driven against and through the panel opening, enlarging the panel opening. The annular riveting portion of the female element is then driven into the cone-shaped panel portion and through the panel opening, drawing the panel portion into a tubular shape engaging the external surface of the riveting portion. Finally, the riveting portion is driven against a center post of the die member, radially outwardly deforming the free end of the riveting portion and forming a mechanical interlock with the tubular panel portion.
Abstract: A process and a circuit arrangement for the automatic direct addressing of any desired memory location in the memories of a plurality of data processing units interconnected through a common bus by use of a single-step addressing technique is disclosed. The size of the memories used in the various processing units may be different. Addresses may be internally stored in the memories according to one of two addressing schemes. In a data processing unit initiating a data transmission connection, the external memory address of the desired memory location to be addressed is generated from an internally stored address and is transmitted to the bus system. This external address is received in each data processing unit, which performs an address calculation to determine whether the specified external address is within its volume or range of addresses.
Abstract: A method of attaching a self-attaching element, including a self-piercing element, to a panel in a die member. The self-attaching element includes a tubular barrel portion having a free open end and may include a piercing surface at the free end of the barrel portion. The die member includes an annular concave die cavity which surrounds a center die post. The method includes coating at least the tubular barrel portion with a fluorocarbon coating, such as polymerized tetrafluoroethylene, prior to the installation of the fastening element to the panel. The tubular barrel portion is then driven through an opening formed in the panel generally coaxially aligned with the die member center post. The opening may be preformed or more preferably pierced by the piercing surface of the barrel portion.
Abstract: A clamp and antenna for an overhead power line conductor includes a C shaped housing having upper and lower jaws movable relative to each other for securing the clamp to the overhead power line. A power supply is positioned in the housing and is energized by current following through the power line. A transmitter, powered by the power supply, transmits data using a portion of the housing as an antenna. The antenna provides a guide for an actuator for moving the jaws of the housing relative to each other.
Abstract: A collapsible cart comprises a unit frame having a pair of depending front legs at one end and adjacent its other end a transverse axle mounting a pair of wheels. A collapsible basket is removably secured to the frame, and a handle socket centrally underlies and is secured to the frame. A formed handle has one end portion removably nested and secured within the socket, with its other end projecting forwardly.
Abstract: The present invention provides a method and apparatus for collecting and liquefying off-gases, particularly carbon dioxide, generated by a wet oxidation of organic matter and for the on sight gasification of liquid oxygen for use as an oxidant in the wet oxidation reaction. Through a series of separation and pressurization operations, high pressure off-gases are introduced into a heat exchanger at substantially the same time as liquid oxygen. The liquid oxygen and compressed off-gases are in heat exchange relation in the heat exchanger but are isolated from one another. Heat is transferred from the compressed off-gases to the liquid oxygen whereby the off-gases are liquified and the liquid oxygen is gasified. The liquified off-gases may then be stored in appropriate storage units. The gaseous oxygen is used as the oxidant for the wet oxidation reaction.

The end caps include a longitudinal bore which receives the quartz-type lamp and at least one concentric annular flange which is received in the inner bore of the tubular member.
Abstract: A method is provided for enhancing the transport of a selected ion having a predetermined charge-to-mass ratio through a biomolecular membrane located in a space subjected to a local magnetic field. The space defines at least one reference path passing through the membrane in opposite first and second directions. The method includes the steps of creating a magnetic field which, when combined with the local magnetic field, produces a magnetic field having a flux density with at least one component representable by a component vector having a direction extending in the first direction along the path. This component of the magnetic field has a magnitude that fluctuates at a predetermined rate to produce a nonzero average value. A predetermined relationship between the ratio of the selected rate to the nonzero average value and the charge-to-mass ratio of the predetermined ion is thereby created. The predetermined relationship, is a function of the cyclotron resonance frequency of the ion.

Abstract: The device for disconnecting the wheels from a vehicle's optional drive is mounted inside the support of the axle shaft, and the wheel hub is splined onto the axle shaft. The universal joint is diametrically positioned in relation to the support of the axle shaft by a bearing. The universal joint has an internal splined section which corresponds to an internal splined section on the clutch disc for "engage" and "disengage" positions. A fluid responsive actuating device is provided including a movable member in the form of a diaphragm or a piston connected to the clutch disc for axially moving, in response to the pressure or pressure differential from a fluid source to effect the engagement and disengagement of the clutch disc splines in relation to the axle shaft and universal joint splines.
Abstract: A capacitive pressure sensor suitable for making highly sensitive, low pressure measurements is disclosed. The sensor may be mounted into a 0.5 mm OD catheter suitable for multipoint pressure measurements from within the coronary artery of the heart. The sensor employs a transducer which consists of a rectangular bulk silicon micro-diaphragm several hundred microns on a side by two microns thick, surrounded by a supporting bulk silicon rim about 12 microns thick. Both the diaphragm and the rim are defined by a double diffusion etch-stop technique. The transducer fabrication process features a batch wafer-to-glass electrostatic seal followed by a silicon etch, which eliminates handling of individual small diaphragm structures until die separation and final packaging. An addressable read-out interface circuit may be used with the sensor to provide a high-level output signal, and allows the sensor to be compatible for use on a multisite catheter having only two electrical leads.

Abstract: An annular hole cutter wherein each tooth is formed with a radially outer cutting edge and at least alternate teeth are formed with radially extending, circumferentially staggered inner and outer cutting edges. The bottom face of each tooth is formed with oppositely radially inclined inner and outer back-off faces which intersect in a downwardly extending crest which in turn intersects the radially outer cutting edge. The outer back-off faces of alternate teeth are vertically relieved relative to the outer back-off faces of the intermediate teeth and the inner back-off faces of the intermediate teeth are vertically relieved relative to the inner back-off faces of the alternate teeth a distance greater than the chip load at which the cutter is operated. In the preferred form, the radially inner portion only of the unrelieved inner back-off face is relieved to a greater extent than the relieved inner back-off faces.
Abstract: A high pressure manifold brake hose end fitting used in a brake system to reduce the number of wet fittings required in the brake system. The manifold brake hose end fitting has a crimped sleeve connection to a reinforced rubber brake hose on one end, a first receptacle for a hydraulic fitting on the opposite end and a second receptacle formed in the side of the fitting between the one end and the opposite end. A conduit is provided for hydraulic fluid flow through the fitting and in one embodiment, the conduit is preferably eccentrically located away from the side of the fitting including said second receptacle. An end fitting providing three or more receptacles in a single fitting that may be part of one or more fluid systems is disclosed. A brake system and a method of installing brake fluid conduits are also disclosed which use the end fitting to reduce the number of wet fittings in a brake system and reduce the number of steps required to install a brake fluid conduit on a vehicle.
