  • Patent number: 4767255
Abstract: A bleed circuit for a backhoe boom cylinder which minimizes cylinder pressure during over-center movement of the boom while permitting the maintenance of sufficient cylinder pressure during other boom operations. The boom cylinder is provided with a retract port, a head end port, and a small bleed port with a bleed line connecting the bleed and head end ports. As the boom cylinder crosses over-center, the fluid pressure in the retract side of the boom cylinder may be transmitted from the rod end to the head end of the cylinder thereby reducing cylinder pressure and improving the over-center controlability of the boom.

  • Patent number: 4766421
Abstract: Apparatus for detecting the presence of an object within an area under surveillance employs an electro-optical emitter for directing light into the area and an electro-optical receiver for sensing light reflected from the object which originates from the emitter. The emitter emits light energy of a preselected wavelength and is modulated at a preselected frequency to provide the emanating light energy with a characteristic signature. Light reflected by an object within the area under surveillance is filtered and converted to an electrical signal which varies in accordance with the magnitude of the filtered light having the preselected wavelength and modulation frequency. A selected portion of the electrical signal is amplified by a band-pass amplifier and is synchronously sampled in accordance with the modulation frequency to determine the magnitude of the filtered light which originated from the emitter.

  • Patent number: 4766512
Abstract: For the inspection of magnetic memory disks (11) a viewing arrangement (17,18,19) is used which can be mounted on the head arm carrier (16) of a magnetic disk memory in place of one or more head arms. It has a bracket (19) which can be moved between the magnetic memory disks (11) and on which is provided the light admission part or optical pickup of the viewing arrangement (17,18,19). The image received by the pickup (20) is conducted to the part of the viewing arrangement (17,18,19) which is located outside of the magnetic memoryt disks (11) on the head arm carrier (16). There the disk surface can conveniently be inspected.

  • Patent number: 4765072
Abstract: A dirt deflector overtravel mechanism for a digging boom assembly which permits raising and lowering of the dirt deflector when the deflector is impacted by a rock or the like. The dirt deflector is pivotally attached at one end to a frame. A deflector link is pivotally attached at one end to the boom frame and its opposite end supports the dirt deflector. The opposite end of the deflector link is also pivotally attached to an overtravel link which, in turn, is pivotally attached to the deflector such that it remains in close proximity to the deflector under normal conditions. When a large rock or the like is thrown against the dirt deflector by the digging chain, the deflector link and overtravel link move from a scissors-like position to a colinear position which permits the dirt deflector to be displaced thereby preventing breakage or damage to the deflector. After the impact and displacement of the dirt deflector, the deflector will automatically fall back into place under its own weight.

  • Patent number: 4765900
Abstract: A method of treating organic waste is provided which includes separating the liquid portion of the waste from the solid portion prior to reacting said solid portion in an accelerated wet oxidation reaction. The method includes using an internally-derived ash from the wet oxidation reaction to weight the organic waste, thereby increasing the rate at which the liquid phase can be separated from the solid phase. By first removing the liquid portion of the waste, the oxygen demand of the waste to be processed by wet oxidation is substantially lowered. Ammonia is removed from the liquid portion of the waste in a de-ammoniating step which is followed by biological decomposition to form a liquid stream having a greatly reduced oxygen demand. In one embodiment, the method includes further treating the liquid stream to substantially remove salts and using the resulting deionized stream as a diluent to dilute the solid portion of the waste prior to wet oxidation.

  • Patent number: 4764408
Abstract: A baffle for a liquid container, such as a vehicle gasoline tank or the like, is formed of a resilient, cellular foam plastic material placed within the container. The cells of the plastic are interconnected, and the volume of the solid material forming the foam plastic is only a minor portion of the overall volume of the material including its open cells. The plastic material is tightly compressed into a long strip which is surrounded by a casing formed of a thin sheet. The plastic material is chemically inert relative to the liquid, but the casing sheet is substantially soluble in the liquid. A predetermined length section of the strip may be inserted in a container. When liquid is poured into the container, the casing is substantially dissolved to free the compressed material, which resiliently expands to substantially fill the container and form a cellular baffle therein.

  • Patent number: 4763507
Abstract: An adjustable ball bar gauge is provided for use in testing the accuracy of the readings obtained in a coordinate measuring machine. Such a machine has a probe that contacts numerous points on an article arranged within its measuring envelope to produce signals that are used, through a computer, to map the shapes or dimensions of surfaces of the article. The ball bar is formed of an elongated shaft, having contact balls mounted upon its opposite ends, that is mounted upon a movable support which allows the bar to be positioned at variable height and vertically and horizontally angled positions. The ball bar support may be placed within the machine measuring envelope and its position, including its angularity, may be repeatedly changed so that the probe may successively contact both balls each time the ball bar position is changed to produce test readings from which the accuracy of the machine may be gauged.

  • Patent number: 4763865
Abstract: A foldable keyboard stand is formed of a pair of elongated leg tubes that are pivotally connected together to form an X-shape which is arranged in an upright position. Horizontally arranged, parallel tubes are secured to the upper and lower ends of the leg tubes to form upper support and lower foot tubes. The support and foot tubes are arranged off-center relative to the axis of the leg tubes so that they extend forwardly, towards a user location, a considerably greater distance than they extend rearwardly. A resilient, foam plastic sleeve is placed upon and substantially covers each of the upper, support tubes opposite extension portions. A resilient, ring-like collar, which is higher than the support upper surfaces, are positioned upon the opposite ends of the support tubes so that a generally flat keyboard may be rested upon the sleeve covered support tubes and laterally restrained between the end collars.

  • Patent number: 4764260
Abstract: In a process for plating nickel upon a surface of a workpiece made of stainless steel, the workpiece is immersed in an electrolytic sulfuric acid bath, with the workpiece anodically connected. Thus, DC current flows from the workpiece, through the bath, to a separate cathode in the bath. Thereafter, the sulfuric acid is rinsed from the workpiece and the workpiece surface is electroplated with nickel which will strongly adhere to the surface. Finally, the nickel-plated part may be conventionally electroplated with chrome.

  • Patent number: 4760682
Abstract: A hollow, tubular beam is formed of an outer and an inner, U-shaped, elongated, roll-formed, sheet metal channel which are telescopically interfitted. The overlapping adjacent leg portions of each channel are provided with an inwardly bent rib and groove mechanical connection, but the curvature of the adjacent rib and groove surfaces are slightly different to provide a number of longitudinally extending, separated spaces therebetween. The free edge of one of the legs of the outer channel is bent normally to cover a corresponding corner-like shoulder bent in the adjacent inner channel leg. The radii of the flange and shoulder bends are slightly different to provide a slight, longitudinally extending space between them. Also, overlapping leg portions are spaced apart by integral embossments formed on the legs. The adjacent channel legs are adhesively bonded together by an adhesive material applied within the spaces.
