  • Patent number: 5803682
Abstract: In an edge gluing machine, a milling device (6) with a rotating milling tool (9) is provided for shaping the corners (7,8) of the projecting edge bands (14), its pivoting device (11) being arranged on a vertically adjustable housing (15). During the adjustment of the bridge (2) to the respective thickness of workpiece (3), the housing (15) is adjusted vertically by a displacing member (18) and by means of a limit switch (28,29) such that the pivot axis (11') of pivoting device (11) is located in the center of workpiece (3). A linear path control activatable by a light barrier causes the milling tool (9) to be positioned at half the thickness of the workpiece from the leading or trailing narrow surface of workpiece (3). The position of the pivot axis (11') is thereby determined such that a perfect machining of the corners (7,8) is ensured.

  • Patent number: 5788433
Abstract: A holder for a tool comprises a tapered hollow shaft, having an upper opening, for clamping into a tool receptacle, and a coolant tube arranged in the interior of the tapered hollow shaft for delivery of coolant to the tool. The coolant tube comprises an inlet opening for coolant, facing the upper opening, as well as an upper tube section having a cylindrical outer enveloping surface with which, when the holder is clamped into the tool receptacle, a sealing ring, which is arranged in a delivery tube for coolant which then at least partly overlaps the coolant tube, is in contact. A cover for the inlet opening is provided, which prevents chips from getting into the coolant tube. In addition, a further tube section, the outside diameter of which is smaller than that of the upper tube section, adjoins the upper tube section at the bottom.

  • Patent number: 5785390
Abstract: A hubcap attached to a wheel hub wherein a chamber is formed between the hubcap and the wheel hub for housing a lubricating fluid for the associated wheel bearings. A vent passage extending through the hubcap is provided for relieving the pressure formed therein. A porous material is positioned to cover the vent passage for allowing a flow of gases to enter and exit the vent passage while preventing liquids and other contaminants from traveling therethrough. The porous material is held in a compressive abutting relationship to the hubcap surface by an enclosure which surrounds the vent passage and encases the porous material to shield the outer surface of the porous material from exposure to external grit and other contaminants. The enclosure further has at least one port to accommodate air flow to the porous material.

  • Patent number: 5782822
Abstract: A surgical technique for removing corneal tissue with scanned infrared radiation is disclosed which utilizes short mid-infrared laser pulses to provide a tissue removal mechanism based on photospallation. Photospallation is a photomechanical ablation mechanism which results from the absorption of incident radiation by the corneal tissue. Since photospallation is a mechanical ablation process, very little heat is generated in the unablated adjacent tissue. The disclosed surgical system includes a scanning beam delivery system which allows uniform irradiation of the treatment region and utilizes low energy outputs to achieve controlled tissue removal. A real-time servo-controlled dynamic eye tracker, based on a multiple-detector arrangement, is also disclosed which senses the motion of the eye and provides signals that are proportional to the errors in the lateral alignment of the eye relative to the axis of the laser beam.

  • Patent number: 5732730
Abstract: A pressure-actuated valve of the type used in the fuel systems of gas turbine engines and the like combines the functions of check valve and metering valve in a housing forming a single assembly. A movable valve actuator is slidably movable along a central axis within the housing, The actuator has two spaced-apart valve faces that cooperate with two spaced apart valve seats mounted to the housing. One of the valve-seat/valve-face combinations controls flow through a primary outlet port from the housing, and the second combination controls fluid flow through a separate, secondary outlet. The second valve combination includes telescopically mating inner and outer wall surfaces having a metering passage in the outer wall characterized by a transverse cross-section that varies from a minimum to a maximum at its opposite ends. As the inner and outlet wall surfaces move relative to each other, the exposed cross-section of the metering passage increases to permit increased flow through the valve.

  • Patent number: 5713724
Abstract: An electronic control system dynamically varies the output capacity of a compressor by controlling plural valves associated with the compressor to provide pressurized air to a distribution system at an appropriate rate. The control system operates in any of three modes for standalone operation, including continuous run, auto/dual pressure band, and target pressure modes. In the first two modes, pressure bands are dynamically calculated based on load and unload values entered by an operator. These electronic control systems can also be connected in a peer-to-peer network to coordinate control of up to 16 compressors feeding the same distribution system, so as to maintain a desired target pressure in the system. A modem connected to the system supports remote diagnostics, monitoring, and control. Specialized startup, operating, and shutdown diagnostic algorithms prevent damage to the compressor and avert unsafe operating conditions.
