  • Patent number: 5486477
Abstract: The present invention provides a novel lytic reagent composition highly selective in its interactions with the cell membranes of blood cells and also provides a method of using the reagent composition in a semi-automated or an automated system to effect a significantly improved white blood cell differential determination. The lytic reagent composition is characterized by an ability to selectively shrink the white blood cells into the increasing size order of lymphocytes, a midregion consisting mainly of monocytes, other mononuclear cells, some basophils and eosinophils, and neutrophils and can readily be optimized to effect a significantly improved three component separation on the histogram of commercially available semi-automated and automated blood analyzers when compared to the reagents conventionally employed on such instruments.

  • Patent number: 5466748
Abstract: A resin composition comprises an EVOH (A) and a thermoplastic polymer (B) having at least one functional group selected from the group consisting of boronic acid group, borinic acid group and boron-containing groups convertible into boronic acid group or borinic acid group in the presence of water. The composition may further comprise a thermoplastic polymer (C) other than (A) or (B). The resin compositions thus obtained have good compatibility and give molded products having superior transparency and good mechanical properties.

  • Patent number: 5460173
Abstract: A woven or non-woven screen mesh disc impregnated at spaced locations along its circumference with a dose of powdered medicament. The disc is selectively indexed so as to present the impregnated doses of medicament seriatim between a pair of holes in an upper and lower pressure plate in an inhalator. Air is forced through the holes in the pressure plates and the encapsulated screen mesh to entrain a dose of the powdered medicament, which is then inhaled through a mouthpiece, by the patient-user. Because the powdered medicament is impregnated into the screen mesh, the air impinging upon the mesh and the powdered medicament will cause the medicament to break up as it is pressed up against and passed through the mesh infrastructure to aerosol or atomize the same so that the medicament is presented in appropriate particle sizes for maximum benefit when inhaled.

  • Patent number: 5444104
Abstract: A polycarbonate dimethacrylate which is the condensation product of 2 parts of hydroxyalkylmethacrylate of the formula. ##STR1## in which A is C.sub.1 -C.sub.6 alkylene, and 1 part of a bis(chloroformate) of the formula ##STR2## in which R is C.sub.2 -C.sub.5 alkylene having at least two carbon atoms in its principal chain and n is an integer from 1 to 4, is usable, admixed with a secondary monomer suitable for dental applications, such as BIS-GMA; UDMA or the like, as an adhesive system for dental restorative materials. Particularly useful is the novel condensation product of 2-hydroxyethylmethacrylate and triethylene glycol bis(chloroformate).Dental adhesives containing these components are suitable for application to enamel, pretreated dentin, porcelain and metallic surfaces. The dentin surfaces are pretreated by application of an alcoholic solution of an alkali metal salt of benzene sulfinic acid.
