Abstract: Apparatus for producing an ovenable shaped article of polyethylene terephthalate wherein the polyethylene terephthalate is heated to a temperature in which it is in a thermoformable plastic state, formed as a sheet, locally cooled to form a skin on the surface of the sheet whale maintaining the sheet as a whole in the thermoformable plastic state and vacuum forming the shaped article within cavities on a rotating drum. The cavities are additionally provided with controlled heaters to heat the shaped article to impart thereto a degree of crystallinity of at least about 20% and the sheet is laterally and longitudinally tensioned after removal from the drum to prevent distortion.
Abstract: Conjugates of HA protein of influenza virus suitable for formulation as a vaccine for obtaining a strong immune response to the HA protein are formed by separating whole HA protein from the influenza virus by detergent extraction or by providing whole HA protein by recombinant procedure, treating the HA protein with hydroxylamine to form free sulfhydryl groups in the cytoplasmic domain of the protein, and cross-linking the free sulfhydryl group-containing HA protein to itself using a bis-maleimide linker or to a maleimide-modified diphtheria toxoid, tetanus toxoid or influenza NP protein or other carrier molecule. The procedure is applicable to other proteins which can be separated from a cellular material, such as a virus, and which contain thioester bonds convertible to sulfhydryl groups.
Abstract: A method and system for producing a signature which characterizes an audio broadcast signal for use in broadcast signal recognition, wherein the signature is based on a comparison of time-displaced frequency band values each representing a respective frequency band of the audio broadcast signal. Each of a first group of the frequency band values is compared with a respective value from the second group representing portions of the audio broadcast signal within the same predetermined frequency band. At least a part of the signal portions represented by the second group were broadcast prior to the signal portions represented by the first group, and a signature is formed based on the comparison of the first and second groups.

Abstract: An airline ticket printer includes a magnetic reading and writing station that has a read/write head for recording information on, or reproducing information from, a magnetic stripe carried on a ticket. The printer also includes a printing station located after the magnetic read/write head. A plurality of separate storage bins are provided for storing different ticket blanks; each bin has its own feed device. The ticket blanks are prefed from the storage bins along separate guide paths to separate staging areas prior to these paths joining to form a common path. The magnetic read/write head and the printer are located along this common path.

In particular, an autoantibody capable of catalyzing the hydrolysis of the peptide bond between amino acid residues 16 and 17 in the neurotransmitter vasoactive intestinal peptide (VIP) is disclosed. Human anti-thyroglobulin antibodies isolated by chromatography on protein-A and immobilized Tg hydrolyzed radiolabeled Tg, as shown by generation of several lower-sized products on SDS-electrophoresis gels. The activity displayed a K.sub.m value of a 39 nM property typical of an antibody-combining site. Tg-antibodies also hydrolyzed commercially available peptidyl-methylcoumarinamide (MCA) substrates, displaying a preference for arg-MCA and lys-MCA containing conjugates. The hydrolysis of pro-phe-arg-MCA was characterized by K.sub.m (17 .mu.M) and k.sub.cat 0.06 min.sup.-1. Peptidyl-MCA hydrolysis was inhibited potently by thyroglobulin (K.sub.
