Patent number: 6022733Abstract: The invention relates to a system and method for assessing simulated biological dissolution of a pharmaceutical formulation and absorption of a pharmaceutically active compound therefrom. The system comprises a dissolution chamber and a cell culture chamber. Within the dissolution chamber, the dissolution profile of the pharmaceutical formulation (or drug) is determined. Within the cell culture chamber, the pharmaceutically active compound may be absorbed and transported by a cell monolayer. The cell culture chamber includes a tubular filter which is permeable to medium and capable of supporting the cell monolayer on its interior surface. Insertion of the filter into the cell culture chamber housing forms an apical chamber interior of the filter, and a basal chamber between the filter and the wall of the housing. The filter rotates about an axis within the housing substantially parallel to the direction of media flow through the cell culture chamber.Type: GrantFiled: December 2, 1997Date of Patent: February 8, 2000Inventors: Yun K. Patent number: 6023618Abstract: The charging criteria for determining the price for a call between two subscribers in a cellular mobile telephone network, is improved. One cell, or a group consisting of several cells, is chosen as a group of special cells. Upon establishing a call, a mobile switching center of a calling subscriber analyzes whether the location cell of the calling subscriber and/or that of the called subscriber are members of a group of special cells. If this is the case, the charging criteria determined for the group will be applied. Additionally, private branch exchanges may also be connected to the mobile switching center.Type: GrantFiled: June 23, 1997Date of Patent: February 8, 2000Assignee: Nokia Telecommunications OyInventors: Risto Janhonen, Markku Tuohino, Erkki Ojala

Patent number: 6017699Abstract: The subject invention relates to a set of DNA primers which, when utilized in conjunction with the polymerase chain reaction (PCR) assay, can amplify and speciate DNA from five medically important Candida species. Furthermore, the PCR amplified products, generated by the primers, can also be used to create species specific probes which can also detect and confirm the five species of Candida. Thus, the present invention allows for early diagnosis and treatment of an infection. The assay is useful in the context of monitoring antifungal treatment regimens, screening potential antifungal agents, and similar applications requiring quantitative determinations.Type: GrantFiled: March 29, 1996Date of Patent: January 25, 2000Assignee: The University of PittsburghInventor: Jeanne A. Patent number: 6012760Abstract: A weather strip is adhered to a vehicle by a double sided adhesive tape. The weather strip seals between the vehicle body and a door when the door is closed. The weather strip includes a first section extruded from a rubber material, which is vulcanized at a vulcanizing temperature. The weather strip also includes a second section molded from a thermoplastic elastomer at a temperature lower than the vulcanizing temperature. The adhesive tape is applied to the weather strip to span the first section and the second section. This permits a single piece of tape to be continuously applied to the weather strip, which is more efficient.Type: GrantFiled: December 23, 1997Date of Patent: January 11, 2000Assignee: Toyoda Gosei Co., Ltd.Inventor: Masahiro Nozaki
