  • Patent number: 6023618
Abstract: The charging criteria for determining the price for a call between two subscribers in a cellular mobile telephone network, is improved. One cell, or a group consisting of several cells, is chosen as a group of special cells. Upon establishing a call, a mobile switching center of a calling subscriber analyzes whether the location cell of the calling subscriber and/or that of the called subscriber are members of a group of special cells. If this is the case, the charging criteria determined for the group will be applied. Additionally, private branch exchanges may also be connected to the mobile switching center.

  • Patent number: 6017699
Abstract: The subject invention relates to a set of DNA primers which, when utilized in conjunction with the polymerase chain reaction (PCR) assay, can amplify and speciate DNA from five medically important Candida species. Furthermore, the PCR amplified products, generated by the primers, can also be used to create species specific probes which can also detect and confirm the five species of Candida. Thus, the present invention allows for early diagnosis and treatment of an infection. The assay is useful in the context of monitoring antifungal treatment regimens, screening potential antifungal agents, and similar applications requiring quantitative determinations.

  • Patent number: 6012760
Abstract: A weather strip is adhered to a vehicle by a double sided adhesive tape. The weather strip seals between the vehicle body and a door when the door is closed. The weather strip includes a first section extruded from a rubber material, which is vulcanized at a vulcanizing temperature. The weather strip also includes a second section molded from a thermoplastic elastomer at a temperature lower than the vulcanizing temperature. The adhesive tape is applied to the weather strip to span the first section and the second section. This permits a single piece of tape to be continuously applied to the weather strip, which is more efficient.

  • Patent number: 6000572
Abstract: A console box for storing small articles includes a box body, an outer lid pivotally mounted for opening and closing the box body and an inner lid disposed between the box body and the outer lid. The box body has a first space for storing small articles. The outer lid pivots within a first angle with respect to the box body. The outer lid is box-shaped and has a second space inside. The inner lid has a third space for storing other small articles. The inner lid is located in the second space of the outer lid when the outer lid is closed. The inner lid pivots in accordance with the movement of the outer lid to a second angle that is smaller than the first angle with respect to the box body. • Patent number: 5995422
Abstract: The present invention provides a redundancy circuit in a semiconductor memory device which has spare memory cells which can store information that can be substituted for data of defective memory cells after the completion of the manufacturing process. If addresses designating the defective memory cells are externally input, the redundancy circuit generates a defective cell relief address signal which corresponds to the address designating the defective memory cell and is used to prevent defective data stored in normal memory cells from being output and causes correction data, to be substituted for the defective data output in correspondence with the defective cell relief address.

  • Patent number: 5978655
Abstract: An information processing apparatus has a transmission antenna and a reception antenna and performs radio transmission/reception with a radio card via the two antennas, thereby performing predetermined information processing. Each of the transmission antenna and reception antenna is formed of a loop antenna. Both antennas are made to overlap each other by a predetermined length so as to prevent mutual electromagnetic interference and are situated in substantially the same plane. Accordingly, even if the transmission antenna and reception antenna are situated close to each other, a signal radiated from the transmission antenna is prevented from interfering with the reception antenna. Thus, the reception antenna can surely receive only a signal radiated from the radio card or an object of communication.

  • Patent number: 5965939
Abstract: A semiconductor device having a closed step portion and a global step portion including an insulating layer having a planarized surface on the global step portion is provided. A dummy pattern is formed by forming an insulating layer on the global step portion and then patterning through a photolithography process. After forming the dummy pattern for compensating steps in the global step portion and between the closed step portion and the global step portion, a BPSG layer is formed on both the closed step portion and the global step portion, and then the BPSG layer is heat-treated to cause it to reflow. The BPSG layer as an insulating interlayer having a planarized surface. The improved planarization decreases the occurrence of notching and discontinuities in the succeeding metallization processes thereby enhancing the yield and electrical characteristics of the semiconductor device.

  • Patent number: 5959178
Abstract: The biosynthesis of lignin in plants is regulated by insertion into the plant genome by altering the plant's ability to synthesise the enzyme O-methyl transferase, an enzyme involved in the lignin biosynthetic pathway. Production of O-methyl-transferase may be enhanced by insertion into the plant genome by transformation of one or more additional copies of the O-methyl-transferase gene or production may be inhibited by insertion of a gene encoding anti-sense mRNA directed against the mRNA encoded by the endogenous O-methyl-transferase gene.

  • Patent number: 5955212
Abstract: The present invention provides a superhard film-coated member having a diamond or diamond-like carbon film strongly bonded to a cemented carbide substrate and a method of manufacturing such a member. The cemented carbide substrate is subjected to heat treatment to cause the bonding metal in a region of the substrate near to its surface to migrate to the surface so as to form hemispherical deposits thereon. The deposits are left undisturbed or a part or all thereof are removed, and subsequently diamond and/or diamond-like carbon is grown on the substrate surface by a chemical vapor deposition process. The deposits formed on the substrate surface have the effect of significantly improving the bonding strength between the superhard films and the cemented carbide substrate to allow formation of thicker film coatings.

  • Patent number: 5939516
Abstract: Modified polyethylene terephthalate polymers, particularly suitable for making carbonated drinks or mineral water bottles by injection (stretch) blow moulding, include a small proportion (from 0.007 to 0.08 mole %) of residues of a polyfunctional hydroxyl compound such as pentaerythritol as a chain branching agent and have (after solid phase polymerisation processing) melt viscosity values of from 300 to 1050 Pa.s (3000 to 10500 Poise) at 295.degree. C. (approximately Intrinsic Viscosity 0.6 to 0.9). The polymers also preferably include from 0.5 to 5 mole % of residues derived from a chain orientation disrupting monomer such as iso-phtalic acid. Best results are obtained in restricted ranges of polymer viscosity, hydroxyl compound and also chain orientation disrupting monomer level. As compared with conventional PET the polymers have the advantage that solid phase polymerisation rates are much improved.
