  • Patent number: 5830771
Abstract: The insulating ability of a semiconductor device of two-layer gate electrode structure, such as EPROM, is improved at the upper surface of the first gate electrode as well as at the upper and lower edge parts of the first gate electrode. A LOCOS film is formed on a semiconductor substrate, and a floating gate is formed by patterning. Next, the first oxide film is formed on the floating gate, and then the first oxide film is etched out. Subsequently, the second oxide film is formed on the floating gate, and a control gate is formed on the floating gate using the second oxide film as an inter-layer insulating film. As a result of these two oxidations of the first and second oxide films and the removal of the first oxide film, the asperity of the upper surface of the floating gate is removed, and the upper and lower edge parts thereof are shaped into a round form.

  • Patent number: 5829660
Abstract: A pneumatically operated fastener driving device includes a pilot pressure operated main valve movable from a normally closed position into an opened position allowing a supply of air under pressure to be communicated with a piston chamber to initiate and effect the movement of a piston and fastener driving element through a fastener drive stroke. A first passage structure communicates a pilot pressure chamber and an exhaust port. A secondary valve member is mounted with respect to the first passage structure so as to be movable between an opened position permitting communication between the pilot pressure chamber and the exhaust port and a closed position preventing such communication. A second passage structure communicates the piston chamber with the secondary valve member. An operative cycle is initiated upon exhausting pilot pressure in the pilot pressure chamber causing the main valve to move to its opened position thereby initiating the fastener drive stroke.

  • Patent number: 5831966
Abstract: A table a management region on the disc contains a disc identifier that represents the type of the data recording format of the disc, a number-of-disc-sides identifier that represents whether the disc is a single-sided disc or a double-sided disc, and a disc side identifier that represents whether the reproducing disc is side A or side B of a double-sided disc. A disc identifier 4 that represents the type of the data recording format of the file is recorded in a file (n) table including management information of the file. A reproducing apparatus reads the disc identifiers and from the table and the file (n) table and determines whether or not the disc and the file are reproducible. In addition, the reproducing apparatus reads the number-of-disc-sides identifier from the table and determines whether or not the disc is a double-sided disc or a single-sided disc. When the disc is a double-sided disc, the reproducing apparatus determines whether the reproducing side is side A or side B.

  • Patent number: 5829665
Abstract: A fluxless soldering process for soldering a pressure sensor unit having a sensor chip incorporating a semiconductor circuit of a large scale integration, for example, to a metal stem without scratching the surface of the chip. For the soldering, a nickel layer and an oxidation-preventing layer are formed on the surface of the glass substrate of the sensor unit. The oxidation-preventing layer acts to prevent the nickel layer from oxidizing. The substrate undergoes a thermal hysteresis before soldering. The thickness of the oxidation-preventing layer is so set that after the thermal hysteresis, movement of nickel atoms of the nickel layer to the top surface of the substrate is suppressed in relation to the thermal hysteresis. The substrate and the stem are heated in a reducing atmosphere to melt a solder foil placed between the substrate and the stem. Thus, the sensor unit is soldered to the stem. The solder-wettability of the soldered surface of the substrate is not deteriorated.

  • Patent number: 5831712
Abstract: An optical apparatus, e.g. a head-mounted display apparatus, which enables observation of a favorable image by eliminating flare and ghost images caused by unwanted light coming in through the gap between an observer's eyeball and an optical unit of the apparatus. Display light of an electronic image emanating from a liquid crystal display device and outside world light coming in through a liquid crystal shutter (7) are p-polarized light and therefore pass through a polarizing plate (8) and reach an observer's eyeball (1) without any loss. Meanwhile, light that undesirably comes in through the gap between the observer's face and the optical unit is generally natural light and hence unpolarized. Therefore, when the unwanted light passes through the polarizing plate (8) after being reflected from the eyeball (1) or a mirror (3), the light intensity reduces to 1/2.

  • Patent number: 5828428
Abstract: A TFT-LCD resistive circuit provides adequate resistance through a resistive layer formed of N.sup.+ amorphous silicon and silicide. A first metal layer having a shorting bar and a first is formed over the resistive layer. A passivation layer is formed over the first metal layer and patterned to expose a portion of the first metal layer over the resistive layer. A second pad is formed on the passivation layer in connecting with the first pad. The exposed portion of the first metal layer over the resistive layer is etched down to the resistive layer, using the passivation layer as a mask. Accordingly, a conventional photoresist process is not required to form the resistive circuit. The size of the resistive area is reduced while still providing adequate resistance by virtue of the N.sup.+ amorphorus silicon and silicide.
