  • Patent number: 4007353
Abstract: An electrical igniting unit for cigar lighters, engine ignitor plugs, and the like comprising a wound spiral of resistance ribbon which is carried in a shallow metal cup to span the mouth thereof. The inner end of the ribbon is secured to a metal stud as by crimping and/or welding it in a slotted head thereof. The outer coil convolution is secured to the rim of the cup by forming inward the rim edge into a tight curl which is laid over on the end portion of the coil convolution. A relatively large area of the coil end is thus tightly and securely pinched under continual pressure, to establish a low-resistance effective mechanical and electrical connection between the cup and the coil.

  • Patent number: 4005135
Abstract: Ultraviolet curing lamp systems consist of parallel-mounted, elongated ultraviolet lamps which are mounted within elongated reflectors. The reflectors have water-cooling conduits extending along their exterior surfaces, and further have flat, elongated shields extending over the top of the reflector housing. Cooling fluid is introduced into and removed from the cooling channels by coaxial water fittings at opposite corners of the reflector assembly, and the entire reflector assembly and lamp is rotatable about these water inlet and outlet fittings. The parallel assemblies are so disposed that they can illuminate a moving web or sheets of material having radiation curable substances thereon, and are rotatable to a shutter position in which the assemblies are rotated at 90.degree. to their web-illuminating position so that the radiation from each lamp assembly falls on the water-cooled panel on top of an adjacent assembly.

  • Patent number: 3977513
Abstract: Newspaper stacks are transported from stacking and tying equipment to a loading dock by a closed-loop endless train of carts moving on a contoured track which can allow horizontal or vertical movement of the cart train. The individual carts may be loaded, while in motion, with one or two stacks at cart loading stations along the closed-loop path from bundle entry devices which are interlocked and synchronized with the moving cart train. The contents of each cart can be discharged at preselected discharge regions in a truck loading dock by tilting the track and the cart at a 30.degree. angle as the train passes the loading dock, and selectively opening a bundle retaining gate provided on each cart, to enable gravity discharge of the stacks to the desired loading dock location.

  • Patent number: 3958099
Abstract: An electrical igniting element for use with ignitor devices such as are commonly utilized in electrical cigar lighters, engine ignitor plugs, and the like comprises a heating element, such as a wound spiral of resistance ribbon, carried on an annular metal holder or cup and spanning the mouth or opening thereof. The inner end of the spiral ribbon is secured to a central metal stud as by crimping and/or welding it in a slotted head thereof. The invention provides improved means for securing the outer coil convolution to the rim of the holder or cup by curling inward the rim edge into a tight curl which is laid over on the end portions of the coil convolution whereby a relatively large area of the coil end is tightly and securely pinched under continual pressure, thereby establishing a low-resistance effective mechanical and electrical connection between the cup and the coil throughout the useful life of the latter.
