Abstract: Tractor-mounted apparatus for cutting, rolling and laying turf has parallel side cutters in front of a horizontal bottom cutter for cutting a strip of turf as the tractor advances, the turf strip being wound on a roller on a roller carrier behind the tractor and mounted on a lift frame for oscillation about an upright axis. A completed turf roll on the roller can be elevated by the lift frame and, by swinging the roller carrier, can be moved back through a right angle for unloading onto a platform, or swung through a further right angle and lowered to the ground for laying the turf as the tractor advances.
Abstract: A vertical press having a main frame of generally C-shaped configuration with a vertical main part and two vertically spaced horizontal arms, a mandrel extending between the two arms so as to be supported thereby, a movable member located between the main part and the mandrel, and a wedge arrangement to move the movable member toward the mandrel in a pressing action.
Abstract: A baker's oven has its casing divided by horizontal decks into a number of superimposed substantially cylindrical compartments, a loading doorway leading into each. A vertical drive shaft through the casing carries, in each compartment, a central substantially cylindrical insulated core from the lower part of which extends an annular rotating support for articles to be baked, each compartment being individually heated electrically. Each or any compartment may have an annular horizontal lid about the core, means being provided for lowering the lid onto bread tins on the support or lifting it clear above the tins.
Abstract: A vegetable peeler, particularly for pumpkins, has a pair of arms made for engagement with the blade holders of the handle and motor housing of a conventional electric carving knife in place of the usual carving blades and, like the blades, releasably interconnected adjacently for relative reciprocal movement. The arms have base flanges extending laterally in opposite directions from their front parts, and with their leading edges sharpened to cutting edges for excising a strip of peel, the depth of the cut being limited by depth gauges on the two arms.
Abstract: A single piece of sheet material is shaped to substantially uniform cross-section to comprise a soffit section to be fixed under the projecting rafters of a building frame, an attachment flange depending from the rear of the soffit section, for attachment to the wall of the frame, a fascia section extending up from the front of the soffit section to cover the front ends of the rafters, and a fascia top piece extending rearwardly from the top of the fascia to lie over the front end portions of the rafters.
Abstract: A geodesic lens for waveguides formed by four concentric zones, of which the two exterior ones, having an external radius a and b, are portions of a plane surface, the central zone, having a radius d, represents the actual lens, and the remaining zone, having an external radius c, is a connecting portion without discontinuities with the contiguous portions having an external radius respectively equal to d and b, said parameters a, b, d, having been selected according to the optical characteristics of the lens to be obtained, taking into account the formulae: focal length f=ab/(a+b), aperture=2d, linear magnification X=b/a (or X=a/b according to the position of the image with respect to the source).

Abstract: A practical, economical and self-sustaining irrigation system for extensive arid regions utilizes a network of hydraulic ram fitted gravity-feed water tanks connected in series. Ram exhaust water is fed into irrigation pipes or ditches along the system. Ram elevated water in the tanks of the system is gravity fed from each tank to the next downstream ram. The first ram in the system is fed from a natural water source or dam. A complete system may include several natural or dammed water sources each feeding a downstream network of rams and tanks. Electrical power can also be generated in the system at least at the initial and secondary sources of water.
Abstract: A circuit is presented for coupling a storage capacitor to a capacitor shorting switch whereby voltage across the shorting switch is maintained at a reduced potential relative to the storage capacitor so that the voltage and potential current at the switch contacts is maintained at levels wherein it is impossible for the release of sufficient energy into the surrounding atmosphere to cause ignition of a flammable mixture of gas and air. This is accomplished by coupling the storage capacitor to the switching device via a variable voltage divider network controlled by an SCR with a zener diode controlled gate circuit and a varistor.
Abstract: Opposing steel door skins are punched to provide openings of the required size for a specified lite unit. Lite unit locator and retaining flanges are simultaneously formed on the two skins. A prefabricated lite assembly consisting of a pane of glass and surrounding mitered wood frame with sealant is placed between two steel skins in interlocking engagement with the locator and retaining flanges and the door is put through a foaming operation to produce an interior foam core around the margins of the lite assembly or unit.
Abstract: An apparatus and method for measuring toxic vapors through the use of a two chamber sensing device is presented wherein a first chamber contains an adsorbent for materials not to be monitored but which interfere with the monitoring process and the second chamber contains a material that collects the substance to be analyzed.
Abstract: A spiral separator for the wet gravity separation of solids of different specific gravities has a number of helical sluices or spirals mounted about a vertical column, the bottom of each spiral being substantially straight in cross-section and inclining upwards from inside to outside of the spiral, the pitch of the outside of the spiral being substantially uniform, but the angle of the spiral bottom to horizontal, and therefore the pitch of the inside part of the spiral, varying, this angle and the inside pitch of the spiral being greater in the upper part of the spiral than in the lower part.
Abstract: A simplified, lightweight and very compact chair-like carrier enables placing an infant securely and comfortably in the seat structure of a shopping cart. Straps attached to the carrier anchor it to both the back and seat portions of the shopping cart seat structure while other attached straps on the carrier hold the infant against toppling forwardly or laterally. A further detachable and adjustable strap allows supporting the infant carrier on the body of an adult for transporting.
Abstract: A target for tossed game pieces each of pyramid shape and equally sized has a corresponding number of pyramid pockets whose lower points are in a common plane and serve to support the target on a level surface. The target has a flat upper surface flush with the tops of game pieces successfully tossed by players into the pockets. Any apex of a pyramid game piece may enter a pocket downwardly.
Abstract: A base frame mounts a first gang of saws in a common vertical datum plane and a first wood member conveyor device. A second gang of saws in a common vertical datum plane and a second wood member conveyor device are mounted on a carriage on the base frame for movement toward and away from the first gang of saws and first conveyor device. Each saw in each gang is independently vertically adjustable in its vertical datum plane and each saw is rotatable a full 180 degrees around the axis of a chord on the saw blade lying in the common datum plane of such saw. Each saw, during its angular rotation, is precisely supported on a double pantograph movement linkage which follows an arcuate track centered on said chord and vertical datum plane. A precision drive for the wood member conveyor devices and carriage obviates the necessity for a long torque shaft and enables much greater versatility of operation of the apparatus.
