  • Patent number: 8345614
Abstract: A method, an apparatus, and a computer program product for wireless communication are provided in which a single channelization code may be utilized on an uplink channel for providing a HARQ ACK/NACK response corresponding to DC-HSDPA+MIMO. Here, the set of channelization codes includes four codeword groups, each codeword group corresponding to a scenario wherein a node B schedules a single transport block or dual transport blocks on each of the two downlink carriers. Thereby, each of the four codeword groups may be designed to have an improved distance property in comparison to the utilization of a single codeword group for all HARQ ACK/NACK hypotheses, reducing errors.

  • Patent number: 8325687
Abstract: Techniques for enhanced backhaul flow control are provided. In an exemplary embodiment, a backhaul control system is described that comprises a base station controller (BSC), a backhaul network, and a base transceiver station (BTS). Each is responsive to data and messaging transmitted and received. In one aspect, the BTS includes a queue and a controller. The amount of data in a queue is adjusted by a controller based upon calculating a target queue size value. The controller non-uniformly adjusts the amount of data in a queue based upon a target queue size value which is based upon communication system parameters. The target queue size and amount of data in a queue is adjusted so as to reduce buffer underrun, decrease system latency, and increase communication system throughput.

  • Patent number: 8228855
Abstract: Systems and methodologies are described that facilitate reporting an uplink power headroom (UPH) during an E-DCH transmission in a CELL_FACH state. For a E-DCH transmission, a reduced measurement period can be utilized in order to report a UPH measurement. In particular, the reduced measurement period can be less than 100 milliseconds. The UPH measurement can be communicated based upon receipt of AICH/E-AICH and transmission of DPCCH for a configurable number of radio frames. The UPH measurement can be based upon the transmitted power prior to actual data transmission. Additionally, the UPH measurement can be included within scheduling information portion of a MAC header.

  • Patent number: 8204505
Abstract: Systems, methodologies, and devices are described that manage employment of network (NW)-initiated resource allocation and user equipment (UE)-initiated resource allocation for a UE. To employ NW-initiated resource allocation, a core network can transmit an indicator to the UE indicating that Policy and Charging Control (PCC) is supported by a network associated with the UE. The UE receives the indicator and other information, such as indicator regarding whether the current access network supports NW-initiated resource allocation and whether the current application prefers NW-initiated resource allocation, determines that NW-initiated resource allocation is to be employed, and the core network initiates resource allocation for the UE. If any indicator is not received by the UE, or the UE receives an indicator that indicates PCC is not supported or not preferred, the UE determines that UE-initiated resource allocation is to be employed, and transmits a request for resource allocation to the core network.

  • Patent number: 8184599
Abstract: Techniques for managing operation of a user equipment (UE) in a multi-carrier system are described. The system may support two or more carriers on the downlink and one or more carriers on the uplink. One carrier on each link may be designated as an anchor carrier. In an aspect, a lower layer order (e.g., an HS-SCCH order) may be used to transition the UE between single-carrier and multi-carrier operation. In another aspect, the UE may have the same discontinuous reception (DRX) configuration for all downlink carriers and/or the same discontinuous transmission (DTX) configuration for all uplink carriers. In yet another aspect, HS-SCCH-less operation may be restricted to the anchor carrier.

  • Patent number: 8180058
Abstract: Systems and methodologies are described that facilitate employing a random access procedure that leverages encrypted and/or unencrypted data in a scheduled uplink message. A random access preamble can be sent from an access terminal to a base station, and a random access response can be sent from the base station to the access terminal. A scheduled transmission message can be sent from the access terminal to the base station based upon a grant included in the random access response. When contention based random access is employed, the scheduled transmission message or a portion thereof can be unencrypted. Further, non-security-critical information can be sent in an unencrypted manner in the scheduled transmission message, while security-critical information can be encrypted for transmission (e.g., included in an encrypted portion of the scheduled transmission message and/or transmitted in a subsequent encrypted normal scheduled transmission message).

  • Patent number: 8160596
Abstract: A method and system for providing asymmetric modes of operation in multi-carrier wireless communication systems. A method may assign a long code mask (LCM) to an information channel associated with a plurality of forward link carriers to transmit data from an access network to an access terminal; and multiplex the information channel on a reverse link carrier. The information channel may include one of data source channel (DSC), data rate control (DRC) and acknowledgment (ACK) information, and the multiplexing may be code division multiplexing (CDM). The AN may instruct the AT on whether to multiplex the DSC information based on feedback from the AT. The method may further offset the ACK information on the reverse link to reduce the reverse link peak to average, CDM the information channel on an I-branch and on a Q-branch, and transmit the code division multiplexed information channel on the reverse link carrier.

  • Patent number: 8150408
Abstract: Embodiments disclosed herein relate to methods and systems for grouping pilot signals and using such grouping for pilot strength reporting and set management in multi-carrier communication systems. In one embodiment, an access network may assign a group identifier (or “group ID”) to each of the pilot signals associated with the sector, e.g., based on the coverage areas of the pilot signals, and transmit the pilot signals with the corresponding group IDs. PN offset may be used as the group ID. An access terminal may group the pilot signals received into one or more pilot groups in accordance with their group IDs, and select a representative pilot signals from each pilot group for pilot strength reporting. The access terminal may also use the pilot grouping to perform effective set management.

  • Patent number: 8077596
Abstract: Techniques for sending and receiving signaling in a wireless communication system are described. Multiple (e.g., eight) vectors of modulation symbols may be defined and may be orthogonal to one another. Multiple subscriber stations may share transmission resources and may simultaneously send different vectors of modulation symbols in the same tile. Each subscriber station may be assigned multiple sets of at least one vector of modulation symbols usable by that subscriber station to convey signaling, e.g., one set of three vectors for acknowledgement (ACK) and another set of three vectors for negative acknowledgement (NAK). Each subscriber station may send one set of at least one vector in at least one tile to convey a signaling value. Different subscriber stations may simultaneously send different sets of at least one vector in the at least one tile to convey their signaling values.

  • Patent number: 8031645
Abstract: Techniques for archiving data exchanged between a terminal and a wireless communication network during a session are described. Session data may be archived at a network entity in real-time while the session is in progress or may be uploaded to the network entity for archival after the session has terminated. The network entity may archive all data exchanged during the session or only data of the terminal, depending on whether authorization is received from other terminals in the session. The network entity may assign an identifier for the session and may store the identifier and other attributes for the session. During or after the session, the network entity may receive from the terminal a request for all or a portion of the archived data and would then provide the requested data. The network entity may archive a single copy of the session data for all terminals in the session.
