  • Patent number: 4487532
Abstract: A locking device for holding a blade inserted in an axial groove in a cutting body is disclosed. The blades are usually helical and require a locking device that gives line contact between the locking device and the blade since such blades are made of carbide material which is quite brittle and would be distorted and fractured if the blade was contacted over a wide area. The locking devices are frustoconical in shape and have a screw holding them positively in position. The screw has a left hand thread on one end and a right hand thread on the other so that when the screw is rotated in one direction it loosens the clamping device and when it is moved in the other direction it tightens it.

  • Patent number: 4485208
Abstract: Incorporation of an ester plasticizer having a solubility parameter from about 7.8 to about 10.2 (cal/cc).sup.1/2 increases the flexibility and impact strength of poly(dicyclopentadiene). In a preferred embodiment of the method for poly(dicyclopentadiene) synthesis, the plasticizer is incorporated into at least one of two parts of a metathesis-catalyst system: a catalyst/monomer solution or an activator/monomer solution. The two parts are then combined in the mixing head of a reaction injection molding machine and injected into a mold where the reaction mixture rapidly sets up into a thermoset polymer with greater flexibility and impact strength than is found in the corresponding unplasticized poly(dicyclopentadiene).

  • Patent number: 4483561
Abstract: A pipe puller for pulling pipe from a stack of pipes is disclosed. The puller has an elongated handle and two spaced parallel legs extending from the handle. One leg is longer than the other. A stop plate is attached to the distal end of the longer leg so that when the shorter leg is inserted into the end of a flanged pipe, the stop plate engages and is disposed behind the flange on the pipe so that the pipe puller forms a convenient handle by which the pipe can be pulled from the stack of pipes.

  • Patent number: 4481344
Abstract: Disclosed is the incorporation into a two-part metathesis-catalyst system of a halogen containing hydrocarbyl additive, where the hydrocarbyl additive contains at least one trihalogen substituted atom or at least one activated halogen atom. The use of this catalyst system to polymerize dicyclopentadiene results in a thermoset polymer containing low levels of residual monomer. Also disclosed is a preferred embodiment of dicyclopentadiene polymerization where the two parts of the metathesis-catalyst system, plus dicyclopentadiene are combined in the mixing head of a reaction injection molding machine and then injected into a mold where the dicyclopentadiene rapidly sets up into a thermoset polymer.

  • Patent number: 4477408
Abstract: A blow molding method for forming a chain of hollow, shaped article bodies of biaxially oriented, normally highly crystalline thermoplastic material from a tube of the material in substantially unoriented condition, but at its orientation temperature, which includes pulling the tube from a first point to a second point, and pushing beyond the second point that portion of the chain formed between the two points; braking the travel of the tube past the first point during at least part of the time it is being pulled, whereby the part of the tube between the points becomes stretched; closing the corresponding mold pieces of a plurality of stationary blow molds on the stretched part of the tube; inflating the portions of the stretched part of the tube within the mold cavities defined by the corresponding mold pieces to form in each the mold cavity one of the bodies, and to biaxially orient the material thereof; and sequentially opening the mold pieces, following the inflating, to minimize snap-back of the chain.

  • Patent number: 4473080
Abstract: An instrument for measuring blood pressure by sensing the Korotkoff sounds which prevail only between the systolic and diastolic point. The instrument used is essentially a hand-held device. The instrument has a pressure-sensitive element made up of a flexible material containing fluid and crystal transducer supported on the flexible material which responds to the Korotkoff sounds. The sensor is made in a unique geometrical structure shaped to fit between bones and tendons over an artery. The crystal operates through an amplifier, a high pass filter and low pass filter through a comparator to a one shot enabling means connected to a panel meter. The pressure on the fluid in the sensed by a pressure sensor that is in contact with the fluid in the sensor which is connected to the panel digital meter. The digital display shows the pressure exerted on the artery at each Korotkoff sound. A LED shows that pulses are present.

  • Patent number: 4467946
Abstract: A micrometer holder is disclosed. A micrometer is a precise measuring instrument that should be protected against damage by impact and rough handling. The device disclosed herein has a pocket large enough to receive the measuring section of the micrometer and shoulders at the side of the protector extend out in front of the micrometer body. The outer sheet forming the micrometer holder is substantially longer than the inner sheet so that the holder is held in a shape to conform to the body of the wearer when the micrometer is worn on a belt so that the micrometer is held against inadvertent removal from the holder when the person leans over or the holder is jostled. The upper edge of the front of the holder is shaped to hold the rounded edge of the micrometer.

  • Patent number: 4465279
Abstract: A playing device, in particular, a die having a body shape as a regular dodecahedron having twelve faces and a plurality of countable indicia one to six. Each total from one to six appears on precisely two opposite faces. Moreover, the two faces containing a given total lie on parallel opposing faces so that each opposite face is provided with the same number of recesses and therefore the die will be evenly balanced at all parts from its center. Each indicia is conical in shape and is recessed in the body adjacent to the dodecahedron faces. The faces of the die are pentagonal in shape and the placement of the indicia are such that the indicia on each planar face is identical to the number of indicia on the opposite planar face parallel to the first mentioned planar face. Thereby providing a perfect balanced die with its center of mass coincides with its geometrical center whereby greater random playing results are achieved and less chance for trickery.

  • Patent number: 4460305
Abstract: A strip stacker for stacking in parallel planes, plate like strips of electronic components. The machine has a trap door onto which the plate like strips are placed in succession. Each time a strip is placed on the trap door its position is sensed by an electronic eye which actuates a motor to swing the trap door down allowing the strip to fall down a slide with its lower edge into a tray. A compacter bar is slideably supported in the tray and two locating pins project into the tray to hold the strips already stacked in position as the compacter bar retracts. Each time a strip falls from the trap door the compacter bar is retracted, the pins retract, and the compacter bar extends forcing the strip against the end until the fallen strip is in position behind the locating pins and pushing the tray down the slides. The locating pins extend holding the last strip against its predecessors. When the tray is full it will be at its lower extreme position and will be removed.
