Abstract: This invention relates to novel low density polyethylene containing blends useful as extrusion coating compositions which provide coatings having good coatability and a broad heat seal range. These coated substrates then can be used in fabricating bags and other packaging applications. These coatings contain a blend of low density polyethylene and a degraded crystalline polypropylene or propylene containing copolymer.
Abstract: Disclosed are colored polyester compositions containing copolymerized anthraquinone dyes as colorants, which compositions may be used, for example, for food packaging and to mold colored beverage bottles. The copolymerized dyes are thermally stable at the processing temperatures, and are colorfast and nonextractable. The useful dyes have the general formula: ##STR1## wherein either or both of rings A and B may contain in any position thereon one or two groups of the formula ##STR2## R and R.sup.3 each is hydrogen, lower alkyl or lower hydroxyalkyl; R.sup.1, R.sup.2, R.sup.4 and R.sup.5 each is hydrogen or 1-3 substituents such as lower alkyl, lower alkoxy, phenyl, Cl, Br, or the like; X is --S-- or --NH--; n is 1 or 2; m is 0, 1, or 2.
Abstract: Process for manufacturing polyethylene terephthalate fibers having improved low-pilling properties by admixing ethylene glycol with polyethylene terephthalate polymer in extruder and holding the resulting processed fiber at constant length while heatsetting the fiber, and preferably relaxing the fiber up to about 5% while being heatset to a controlled length; and a polyester fiber as made by the process.
Abstract: This invention relates to a process for controlling viscosity during the preparation of modified or grafted low viscosity polyethylene and ethylene/alpha olefin waxes comprising reacting the low viscosity waxes with an unsaturated polycarboxylic component in the presence of a free radical source and at least one viscosity stabilizer.
Abstract: The hot-melt adhesives of the present invention comprise a blend of ethylene-vinyl acetate copolymer, hydrocarbon tackifier resin, aromatic low softening point tackifying resin and paraffin wax. These hot-melt adhesive compositions provide adhesives especially useful for bonding polyethylene film to a nonwoven support. The bonds provided by this adhesive have a novel combination of properties such as good static shear lap bond strength, low elongation and good elevated temperature properties.
Abstract: Thermoplastic materials are converted directly into thermally bonded, coherent fibrous products by melt blowing techniques. The fibrous product is in the form of a rod having a relatively dense, rigid skin in which the fiber portions are oriented primarily in a longitudinal direction with respect to the axis of the product, and a less dense core where the fiber portions are oriented primarily in a transverse direction with respect to the axis of the product. The products are made by melt blowing fibers and intercepting them by a fiber collecting and forming device which permits a relatively heavy build-up of fiber mass in the central portion and a relatively light build-up of fibers in a lip portion surrounding the central portion.

Abstract: Disclosed are polyester substrates or sheets laminated with an acrylic film and having exceptionally improved resistance to surface deterioration on weathering. These laminates are especially suited for use in applications such as windows, signs, solar collectors, green house covers and the like which are subject to extended periods of outdoor exposure. Typical polyesters include modified poly(ethylene terephthalate), and modified poly(1,4-cyclohexylenedimethylene terephthalate) such as those of terephthalic acid with ethylene glycol and 1,4-cyclohexanedimethanol, e.g., poly(69/31 molar-ethylene/1,4-cyclohexylenedimethylene terephthalate) and poly(65/35 molar-1,4-cyclohexylenedimethylene/ethylene terephthalate). The acrylic polymer films suitable forlamination to the polyester sheeting are homopolymers and copolymers prepared from either or both of the monomers H.sub.2 C.dbd.CHCO.sub.2 R and H.sub.2 C.dbd.C(CH.sub.3)CO.sub.2 R.sup.1 wherein R and R.sup.1 are each selected from C.sub.1 -C.sub.
Abstract: Disclosed are novel azo dyes containing an isothiazole azo moiety which may be substituted, and a heterocyclic coupler which also may be substituted. The dyes produce yellow shades on, for example, hydrophobic textile fiber including polyesters, polyamides, and cellulose esters and have excellent fastness properties including lightfastness, washfastness and resistance to sublimation, and dye at unusually low energy levels. The dyes have the general formulae: ##STR1## wherein the various substituents, R.sup.1 and R.sup.2 are each selected from hydrogen and a wide variety of groups such as lower alkyl, --CN, halogen, and the like, R.sup.3 and R.sup.4 are each selected from hydrogen, lower alkyl, benzyl and phenyl, and Z represents the atoms necessary to complete a five or six membered ring.
