Abstract: This invention relates to ovenable and dual-ovenable coated paperboard suitable for use in producing food trays. More particularly, the invention relates to paperboard substrates which have been coated with a water-based release coating composition. Food trays made from such paperboard have superior grease resistance, high temperature resistance, and excellent food release properties—characteristics which make these trays particularly suitable for use in baking applications.
Abstract: An adsorptive monolith made by extruding a mixture of activated carbon, a ceramic forming material, a flux material, and water, drying the extruded monolith, and firing the dried monolith at a temperature and for a time period sufficient to react the ceramic material together and form a ceramic matrix. The extrudable mixture may also comprise a wet binder. The monolith has a shape with at least one passage therethrough and desirably has a plurality of passages therethrough to form a honeycomb. The monolith may be dried by vacuum drying, freeze drying, or control humidity drying. The monolith is useful for removing volatile organic compounds and other chemical agents such as ozone from fluid streams. Particularly useful applications include adsorptive filters for removing ozone from xerographic devices and other appropriate office machines and volatile organic compounds from automobile engine air intake systems.

Abstract: Disclosed is a method for preparing a phosphorus treated activated carbon composition suitable for use as a catalyst support, a catalyst, and an adsorbent. The invention method involves treating (e., mixing or impregnating) an activated carbon material having a surface area greater than 100 m2/g with a phosphorus-containing compound, drying, and heating to a temperature of from 450° C. to about 1200° C., wherein the resulting composition is characterized by a phosphorus compound combined with the carbon in an amount of from above 2.5% to about 10% phosphorus, based on the weight of the composition.
Abstract: An improved process is disclosed for removing nonimpact inks and stickies contaminants from waste paper containing same by repulping the waste paper to form a slurry, adding a densifying agent and an agglomeration agent to the slurry, and subjecting the slurry to treatment with a conical cleaner to remove the inks/stickies. The densifying agent and agglomeration agent addition may be simultaneous or the densifying agent addition may precede agglomeration agent addition and, preferably, is conducted at ambient or greater temperature, at neutral to alkaline pH, and at a pulp consistency (below 18%). Densifying agent addition and agglomeration, followed by passing the repulped waste paper through a conical cleaner, provides improved ink removal over passing the slurry through a conical cleaner without such pre-treatment or with treatment only with densifying agent or only with agglomeration agent.

More particularly, this invention relates to the production of water-free fluid ionic mineral acid salt compositions of fatty acid amine derivatives which are suitable for use as anti-stripping agents in hot asphalt applications.

Abstract: This invention relates to improved bituminous emulsions, specifically to cationic medium-set and slow-set mixing grade emulsions. Abstract: Sterols from the solvent-extracted or distilled neutrals of saponified tall oil pitch are disclosed to be isolated and purified by a process of a liquid-liquid extraction where the hydrocarbon extraction stream is washed with an aqueous methanol solution to remove methanol-soluble impurities by adding the methanol and water, sequentially or as a blend. The resulting hydrocarbon/neutrals/methanol/water solution separates into an upper organic phase and a lower methanol/water phase, which lower phase is removed. The remaining organic phase is allowed to cool to from about 20-30.degree. C., with agitation, to facilitate crystallization of sterols, which crystals are recovered by filtering.

Abstract: An ink jet ink composition is disclosed comprising (a) from about 40% to about 98% of a water-based solvent system (carrier medium), (b) from about 1% to about 20% of one or more colorants, and (c) from about 0.1% to about 20% of carboxylated lignin. Abstract: Phase change (hot melt) ink compositions for use in a phase change (hot melt) ink jet recording device are disclosed to comprise:(a) from about 0.1% to about 30% of one or more colorants; and(b) from about 0.1 to about 99.9% of one or more reversibly-crosslinked-polymers.Recording is conducted by thermally melting the ink at a temperature above ambient temperature (20.degree. C.) to provide prints that possess high quality images, scratch resistance, abrasion resistance, low-temperature storage stability and flexibility, offset and pick resistance, adhesion, and other desired properties. Components other than those listed above may be included in the ink compositions to achieve specific printer, substrate, or end use requirements. Furthermore, the present invention also includes methods for the preparation of the above-described inks.
