Components other than those listed above may be included in the ink compositions to achieve specific printer, substrate, or end use requirements. Also, the present invention also includes methods for the preparation of reversibly-crosslinked-polymers and for their use in the above-described inks. Furthermore, the disclosed phase change inks inhibit corrosion of metallic internal printer parts.

    Abstract: Improved dyestuff compositions comprising a dye cake and a dye dispersant are disclosed wherein the dye dispersant comprises sulfonated or sulfomethylated lignin of increased activity and improved heat stability properties and which dispersants are disclosed to be prepared by substantial removal of the low molecular weight component of the sulfonated and sulfomethylated lignin. Exclusion of the low molecular weight portion of the dispersant may be accomplished by fractionation of the sulfonated or sulfomethylated lignin to remove a substantial portion of the molecules having a molecular weight below 3,000. Alternatively, in the case of lignin recovered from sulfate or soda wood pulping processes, the lignin may be fractionated to remove a substantial portion of the molecules having a molecular weight below 3,000 prior to sulfonation or sulfomethylation.

The presence of tertiary amine groups in sulfonated kraft, sulfomethylated kraft, and sulfite lignins provide dispersants with package dyeing heat stabilities significantly better than those of the unmodified lignins. The improved package dyeing grinding aid/dispersant of the invention is prepared by reacting sulfonate lignin with a secondary amine using formaldehyde and alkaline conditions.

    Abstract: Extruded pellets comprising a majority of activated carbon particles and an inorganic binder are disclosed to provide improved performance when processed through tumbling equipment while the pellets are in their "green" state (i.e., pellets which are fresh off the extruder and contain activated carbon), binder material, and water and have not been subjected to any thermal processing (drying or calcining). The tumbling action both smooths and densifies (i.e., reduces interparticle voids within) the pellet, thereby closing any cracks and greatly improving appearance. Improved performance results from an ability to increase the weight of carbon pellets which can be packed into a fixed volume and thereby increase the volumetric working capacity of the bed for adsorbing/desorbing vapors. Another benefit is to greatly reduce the levels of dust associated with the carbon, both the initial dust and the dust attrition.
