Abstract: A secondary stabilizer for emulsion polymers is disclosed. The secondary stabilizer is a polyester containing diol residues, residues of olefinically unsaturated dicarboxylic acids which carry sulfonate groups and residues of dicarboxylic acids which do not contain olefinic unsaturation or sulfonate groups. The residues of the olefinically unsaturated dicarboxylic acids comprise from 70 mole-% to 99 mole-% of dicarboxylic acid residues in the polyester and from 1 mole-% to 30 mole-% of residues of dicarboxylic acids which do not contain olefinic unsaturation or sulfonate groups. The polyester secondary stabilizer is not a surfactant (does not significantly lower the surface tension of water) and in addition is biodegradable.

Abstract: A method for the surface stabilization of sand and/or soil is provided. The method is comprised of applying an aqueous polymer dispersion to the surface layer of soil. The aqueous polymer dispersion is comprised of triesters of glycerol with lower aliphatic monocarboxylic acids, citric acid triesters with lower aliphatic monohydric alcohols and/or epoxidized triglycerides of at least partly olefinically unsaturated fatty acids as biodegradable plasticizers in aqueous polyvinyl acetate dispersions.

Abstract: Hot melt adhesives having an "open time" of 10 minutes or longer, preferably more than 1 hour and, more preferably, more than 2 hours for a contact pressure of 5 kg/cm.sup.2 and atmospheric conditions of 25.degree. C./26% relative air humidity are provided. Immediately after the parts to be joined have been pressed together at 18.degree. to 23.degree. C., strengths (initial strengths) of 1 MPa and more and preferably more than 1.5 MPa are obtained. The hot melt adhesive is comprised of 1) a polyester, polyamide, polyethylene/vinyl acetate, or NCO-terminated polyurethane prepolymer which does not crystallize during the open time and 2) a tackifier and/or a plasticizer.
Abstract: A process for producing polycarboxylic acids or their salts from polysaccharides is provided. Solid particulate polysaccharides having at least one primary alcohol group in the polysaccharides are oxidized with nitrogen dioxide in a fluid bed. The fluidizing gas contains nitrogen dioxide and the process is operated at a pressure of from 0.5 to 12 bars and a temperature between the boiling point of nitrogen dioxide and 160.degree. C. At least two moles of nitrogen dioxide for the equivalent of the primary alcohol groups reacted over the entire reaction are provided.

Abstract: A process for phosphating surfaces of steel, galvanized or alloy-galvanized steel, aluminum, aluminized or alloy-aluminized steel. The process is particularly useful for treating metal surfaces which are to be cathodic electrocoated. Abstract: A dispenser container for a paste is provided. The dispenser container is formed from a cylinder open at one end for holding the paste, a displaceable tightly fitted follower plate means is arranged at the open end of the cylinder and a dispenser for transporting the paste from the container is arranged to cooperate with the follower plate. A motor and transmission are mounted near the center of the follower plate and has a shaft which extends through the follower plate and has mounted thereon a multiple blade stirrer. The stirrer rotates in the paste below the follower plate. The dispenser removes the paste from the container at a position away from the center of the follower plate in an area below which the multiple blade stirrer rotates. The multiple blade stirrer by rotating in the paste lowers the viscosity and permits the paste to be more easily transported from the container by the dispenser.

Abstract: A self-dispersing curable epoxy composition is prepared upon contacting (a) 1.0 reactive equivalents of an epoxy resin, (b) from about 0.01 to 1.0 reactive equivalents of a polyhydric phenol, and (c) between 0.005 and 0.025 reactive equivalents of an amine-epoxy adduct, wherein the amine-epoxy adduct is formed upon contacting 1.0 equivalents of an aliphatic polyepoxide and between 0.3 and 0.9 reactive equivalents of a polyoxyalkyleneamine. Abstract: Fatty acid esters of isethionate salts are made by reacting ethylene oxide and a bisulfite salt in an aqueous solution while maintaining the pH in the range of from about 5.5 to about 6.5 and while maintaining the temperature in the range of from 25.degree. Abstract: The invention relates to acoustically active sprayable plastisol compositions based on styrene copolymers and/or alkyl methacrylate homopolymers and/or copolymers of methyl methacrylate which, in addition to the favorable abrasion properties and corrosion-preventing properties of the plastisols, have a good vibration-damping effect and distinctly reduce the noise caused by particle impact (chippings, water, sand).
