  • Patent number: 5069668
Abstract: A "dynamically" self-adjusting patient-responsive system for administering liquid medicine such as analgesia to patients as by infusion, with the "demand" of each patient for supplemental doses of drug being taken into account both in providing "on demand" "interval dosing" to supplement a "current rate" of background delivery of the drug to the patient, and in modifying the "current rate" of background delivery of the drug to more correctly correspond to the current needs of a particular patient. While "range" parameters (i.e., "limits" that define acceptable ranges of variance for various characteristics of a program of drug delivery that is intended to meet the very changeable current needs of a particular patient) are preset in accordance with the instructions of a physician, the hour-to-hour manner in which a drug is system-delivered to a particular patient principally is determined on a "dynamic" basis by the extent of the patient's current "demand" for supplemental drug infusion.

  • Patent number: 5052569
Abstract: A safety storage enclosure for housing containers of hazardous material is formed using wall components that have complementary edge formations that extend vertically and connect with elongate framing members to provide post-like supports. The wall components connect at their lower end regions with a welded, generally rectangular base assembly, and at their upper end regions with a correspondingly configured roof assembly, with the post-like supports strengthening the enclosure by providing rigid, columnar structures that extend from the base to the roof assembly. Front, back and opposed end walls of a variety of lengths can be formed using selected sets of "standard" wall panels and wall-corner panels, and "door panels" can be substituted for selected wall panels.

  • Patent number: 5048802
Abstract: A convection diffuser and charge support system for an annealing furnace utilizes a diffuser base assembly to support a stack of coiled rolls of steel that are to be annealed inside a furnace enclosure. The coils are arranged in a vertical stack atop the base assembly. The furnace enclosure surrounds the base assembly and the stack to provide a "closed" treatment environment. Convector plates are interposed between the ends of the coils, with a separate convector plate extending horizontally between each set of adjacent coil ends. Each of the convector plates includes an annular structure 1) that has an inner diameter, 2) that has an outer diameter that extends substantially concentrically about the inner diameter, and 3) that defines a plurality of radially extending air flow passages which extend from locations near the outer diameter to locations near the inner diameter for assisting in providing a desired type of convection flow of gases within the furnace enclosure.

  • Patent number: 5046340
Abstract: Flush mountable latches and locks for industrial cabinets, tool carts, electrical equipment enclosures and the like utilize versatile housings together with a variety of types of handles that are movable relative to the housings to effect unlatching movements of spring-biased, pivotally mounted latch bolts, with pivotally mounted operating arms serving to drivingly interconnect the handles with the latch bolts. Lockable embodiments have locking mechanisms that prevent operating movements of the operating arms, but do not prevent pivotal movement of the latch bolts out of their latched positions, whereby even the lockable embodiments have latch bolts that can be "slammed" into latching engagement with suitably configured strike formations.

  • Patent number: 5040682
Abstract: A system for reconfigurating generally cylindrical, open-top containers that are formed from deformable metal utilizes a press to force bottom portions of upwardly opening, substantially cylindrical containers into a die to carry out drawing operations that alter bottom and side wall portions of the containers to elongate the containers and to provide the containers with tapered, fluted side portions that enable the reconfigured containers to be nested for empty shipment and storage in a minimum of space. As a part of the container reconfiguration process, each container is provided with a plurality of vertically extending "flutes" that extend along the side walls of the reconfigured containers, and with at least one ring-like formation that serves to enhance container strength, container stability and/or container handling characteristics.

  • Patent number: 5018373
Abstract: A lock for a sliding door includes front and rear housing members that clamp front and rear faces of a door panel adjacent an opening that is formed through the door panel. Aligned cavities in the front and rear housing members cooperate with the opening to provide a compartment that mounts a latch bolt member for forward and rearward movement. The latch bolt member has a rearwardly extending formation that projects through a hole formed in the rear housing member for selectively engaging structure located behind the door to releasably latch the door in its closed position. An operating mechanism connects with the latch bolt member and includes components that extend forwardly and rearwardly through aligned openings formed through the front and rear housing members to enable the latch bolt member to be moved forwardly and rearwardly between unlatched and latched positions, and to releasably retain the latch bolt member its unlatched and latched positions.

  • Patent number: 5016393
Abstract: A door construction system for fabricating doors that typically are of rectangular shape, hinged along left or right sides, and used to selectively close access openings of cargo containers, trailers, trucks and the like. Each control member has an associated structural member that comprises a part of the door's core and parallels the associated axis. Each structural member has opposed side portions that are sandwiched between portions of the inner and outer skins, and central portions that project through the associated outer skin opening to nestingly receive portions of the elongate control member to assist in mounting the control member on the door for pivotal movement, to add strength, and to enhance anti-rack capabilities of the door and its associated door control system.

  • Patent number: 4975017
Abstract: An arch structure serves to pivotally connect a grapple to a main frame of a tractor, an articulated wheel vehicle, or the like. An imaginary longitudinal axis extends substantially centrally with respect to the vehicle in forwardly and rearwardly extending directions. A winch has a casing that is mounted on the rear of the vehicle's main frame, and has a winch shaft that extends normal to the longitudinal axis of the vehicle. The arch structure is pivotally connected to the vehicle's main frame by means that includes a pair of side arms for detachable connection to the main frame of the vehicle, with means on the side arms for pivotally supporting the arch structure including a pivot pin connected to each of the side arms and in alignment with each end of the winch shaft. The arch structure includes spaced leg members, the lower ends of which are mounted on pivot pins arranged such that the pivot point of the arch structure is coaxial with but not connected to the axis of the winch shaft.

  • Patent number: 4969916
Abstract: Flush mountable latches and locks for industrial cabinets, tool carts, electrical equipment enclosures and the like utilize versatile housings of novel configuration together with push-to-operate handles that are pivotally movable relative to the housings to effect unlatching movements of spring-biased, pivotally mounted latch bolts. The lock-type embodiment has a locking mechanism that is mounted on the housing to selectively permit and prevent unlatching movements of its pivotal latch bolt. The resulting arrangement provides sturdy latch and lock assemblies that employ a small number of relatively movable parts that can be assembled, installed and serviced with ease. Improved features include the provision of a plural part handle assembly having portions that are configured to cooperate with a resilient, weather resistant boot that optionally may be interposed between housing and handle assembly components.
