  • Patent number: 4958955
Abstract: A system for applying a coating to a traffic surface utilizes a power driven apparatus that provides a plurality of sets of applicator tools that are rotated in tandem to effect mixing in situ of traffic surface coating constituents, and to effect a controlled application of the resulting coating. The apparatus includes a transport carriage that mounts an array of horizontally spaced bearing assemblies, each of which journals a separate vertically extending drive shaft for rotation about a separate vertically extending center axis. Each of the drive shafts drivingly connects with a separate set of the rotary applicator tools. The tools of each set extend substantially horizontally in a radial array about the center axis of its associated drive shaft. A power drive system rotates the sets of applicator tools in tandem as the carriage is moved across a traffic surface. Also described are methods of employing the apparatus to mix coating constituents in situ and to effect their appliction to a traffic surface.

  • Patent number: 4946130
Abstract: A flow control device for use in a fluid or gas line is disclosed. In one example, the device controls the flow of air to the brakes of a large vehicle such as a semi-trailer truck. The device includes a housing having an inlet port and an outlet port both of which communicate with the interior of the housing and a moveable valve assembly which selectively can close or open the ports with respect to one another. The valve assembly includes means for axially moving the assembly and locking it in open and closed positions. Means are provided for biasing the valve assembly to an open position to prevent accidental closing of the valve which possibly could result in the application of brakes of the vehicle.

  • Patent number: 4946427
Abstract: A composite rotary drive member such as a gear, pulley or the like is formed from thermoplastics material that is molded in situ about one or more metal inserts. A circumferentially extending drive formation of desired shape and size is defined by the molded plastics material, and is molded without a need for conventional measures to compensate for shrinkage. The drive member is formed by first forming a composite preform member that has injection molded thermoplastics material with peripheral portions extending about one or more metal inserts. A band-like ring of injection molded thermoplastics material is molded to extend contiguously and continuously about peripheral surface portions of the molded commposite preform member, with the plastics material of the band-like ring and of the composite preform member uniting to form a single plastics structure.

  • Patent number: 4917412
Abstract: A vehicle door lock system includes interior and exterior handle assemblies that are accessible, respectively, from interior and exterior sides of a vehicle door on which the door lock system is mounted. The system includes a plurality of rotary latches that are configured to releasably engage door-frame-mounted strikers to "latch" and "unlatch" the door, and a latch interconnection linkage for effecting concurrent unlatching of the rotary latches. The door is "locked" and "unlocked" by selectively enabling and disabling at least one driving connection between at least one of the handle assemblies and separate latch release arms that are arranged to operate a selected one of the rotary latches. In preferred practice, locking and unlocking of the door are effected either by operating an exterior key cylinder, or by operating an interior sill button.

  • Patent number: 4912951
Abstract: A lock or latch for a sliding or rolling type door includes front and rear housing members that clampingly engage opposite sides of a door panel adjacent an opening that is formed through the door panel. Aligned cavities are formed in the front and rear housing members that cooperate with the door panel opening to define a compartment within which a latch bolt member is housed for forward and rearward movement. The latch bolt member has a rearwardly extending formation that projects through a hole formed in the rear housing member for selectively engaging structure located behind the door to releasably latch the door in its closed position.

  • Patent number: 4909393
Abstract: A system for reconfiguring generally cylindrical, open-top containers that are formed from deformable metal utilizes a press to force bottom portions of a container into a die to carry out a drawing operation that alters bottom and side wall portions of the containers to elongate the containers and to provide the containers with tapered, fluted side portions that enable the reconfigured containers to be nested for empty shipment and storage in a minimum of space. As containers are reconfigured, the decrease that results in fluid-carrying capacity as side wall portions are fluted and folded inwardly is compensated for, at least in large part, by elongating the containers as by folding peripheral portions of their bottom walls upwardly to serve as extensions of their side walls.

  • Patent number: 4898561
Abstract: A self-inflating toy that provides amusement before and during inflation as well as after. The toy is formed from relatively flexible materials that define a sealed inner chamber which contains mixable chemicals that are separated by a membrane which is ruptured when the deflated toy is struck a firm blow. Upon rupture of the membrane, the chemicals mix and react to produce a gas that causes the toy to inflate as the sealed chamber becomes pressurized by the gas. In its deflated form, the toy is collapsed to assume a relatively flat, essentially two-dimensional state, thereby enabling it to fit inside an envelope or other essentially flat paper container in much the same manner as a greeting card. In one preferred form, the toy has three-dimensional outer surface portions that are printed and/or textured to provide features that attract attention such as a grimacing face that has expressions which change and are enhanced as the toy expands from a deflated state to its fully inflated state.

  • Patent number: 4896906
Abstract: A vehicle door lock system includes a rotary latch having an elongate housing with opposed ends that are tapered so as to be securely received, when "latched," within an elongate U-shaped striker assembly that has a pair of spaced, inwardly facing wedge blocks at opposed ends. As the rotary latch releasably engages the striker to effect "latching," the tapered end regions of the latch housing are wedgingly engaged by the wedge blocks of the striker to guide the latch into properly aligned engagement with the striker, and to maintain proper alignment of the rotary latch with the striker while "latched." By this arrangement, a strong, racking-resistant type of latched connection is provided that will assist in preventing undesired relative movements of a door and a door frame on which the latch and striker are mounted, respectively. Handle assemblies are connected to the rotary latch to operate the latch to effect "unlatching" of the latch and the striker.
