    Abstract: An apparatus and method for reducing interference between an uplink transmitter of a space-based wireless communication system and an uplink or downlink receiver of a terrestrial wireless communication system are described. The space-based system may be a Fixed Satellite Service (FSS) system and the terrestrial system may be a Local Multipoint Distribution Service (LMDS) system. An ordered list of preferred uplink transmission frequencies is assigned to all FSS uplinks located in a particular cell of the LMDS system. Different ordered lists are used in different cells of the LMDS system, while uplinks located in the same cell can utilize the same ordered list. A given potentially-interfering uplink transmitter selects an uplink transmission frequency from the appropriate ordered list if the uplink is unable to operate outside the LMDS frequency band and there are no gaps in the LMDS spectrum which can accommodate the uplink transmission.

    Abstract: In the proposed Local Number Portability (LNP) telecommunications network, the traditional link between the first six digits of a ten-digit dialed number and the geographic link of a switch is broken. Some pre-LNP telephone services, however, have been implemented based on this geographic link. For the services to continue to work in an LNP environment, network databases must be simultaneously updated with information reflecting the fact that subscribers have switched from one local service provider to another. If these databases are not simultaneously updated, the possibility for looping messages between network elements arises. The present invention provides a method and system for controlling looping messages between network elements wherein a unique code for each incoming message is generated and stored along with the time the message was received.

    Abstract: A ferroelectric cell in which a ferroelectric stack of a perovskite ferroelectric sandwiched by cubic perovskite metal-oxide conductive electrodes are formed over a silicon body, such as a polysilicon plug penetrating a field oxide over a silicon transistor. According to the invention, an oxidation barrier is placed between the lower metal-oxide electrode and the polysilicon. The oxidation barrier may be: (1) a refractory metal sandwiched between two platinum layer which forms a refractory oxide in a platinum matrix; (2) an intermetallic barrier beneath a platinum electrode, e.g., of NiAl; or (3) a combination of Ru and SrRuO.sub.3 or similar materials. Thereby, the polysilicon plug is protected from oxidation.

First and second hosts communicate with each other and with a server over a communication network. The server generates a second message as a function of the server secret key and the session identifier, and transmits it to the first host.     Abstract: A ferroelectric capacitor structure and its method of making in which a ferroelectric stack of two metal-oxide electrodes sandwiching a ferroelectric layer is fabricated on a silicon substrate with an intervening barrier layer, preferably of TiN. In one embodiment, a platinum layer is grown between the TiN and the lower metal-oxide electrode at a sufficiently high temperature that provides crystallographically ordered growth of the ferroelectric stack. In another embodiment, the platinum layer was completely eliminated with the lower electrode being grown directly on the TiN. Although the conventional conductive metal-oxide used in the electrode is lanthanum strontium cobalt oxide (LSCO), lanthanum nickel oxide provides good electrical and lifetime characteristics in a ferroelectric cell. Alternatively, the electrodes can be formed of the rock-salt metal oxides, such as neodymium oxide (NdO).

    Abstract: A waveguide having alternating regions of different crystallographic orientations, thereby providing quasi-phase-matching for a non-linear frequency conversion, in which two wafers with or without epitaxial layers thereon are bonded together having different, preferably opposed, crystallographic orientations. One wafer is etched away, and a grating is etched such that one part of the grating has the orientation of one wafer and the other part has the orientation of the other wafer. Thereafter, a waveguide structure is epitaxially deposited upon the differentially oriented template so that the waveguide is differentially oriented in its axial direction. Thereby, quasi-phase-matching non-linear effects can be achieved. Several important devices can thereby be achieved, including a coherent optical source using frequency doubling and a frequency converter useful in wavelength division multiplexed communication, as well as others.
