Patent number: 5210832Abstract: In a data processing apparatus, having a user domain with domain storage space and an emulation domain with emulation storage space, emulates an instruction in the user domain by calling a program of instructions in the emulation domain. An instruction register connected to receive the sequence of instructions is partitioned into a plurality of fields. At least one field of the instruction register identifies a location for address information for an operand used in execution of the instruction. The instruction is decoded to generate a control code. The control code includes a branch signal to call the emulation program and a domain access control signal to indicate whether the emulation program requires access to the user domain storage base for execution. During execution of the emulation routine, domain access is implied by the location identified for the address information--a set of locations having been preselected as address registers for implied domain addressing.Type: GrantFiled: July 3, 1991Date of Patent: May 11, 1993Assignee: Amdahl CorporationInventors: Robert M. Patent number: 5175849Abstract: To create a snapshot copy of selected elements of a database in a data processing system, the selected elements are copied sequentially to a secondary storage device. During the copying operation, when a task requests to delete one of the selected elements from the database before it is copied to the secondary storage device, a record is made to identify the requested element, the task is allowed to continue processing. After the element has been copied to the secondary storage device, the identified element will be deleted based upon the record. Also, during the creation of the copy, when a task requests to update one of the selected elements, a duplicate copy of the requested element is created and the task is allowed to update the requested element. When it is time to copy the requested element to the secondary storage device, the duplicate copy will be used.Type: GrantFiled: December 20, 1990Date of Patent: December 29, 1992Assignee: Amdahl CorporationInventor: Frederick W. Patent number: 4326250Abstract: A combined serial priority and parallel priority apparatus and method of operation for use in data processing systems. Each of the parallel priority circuits are interconnected by a common parallel priority bus which carries parallel priority signals indicating the priority level of any unit requesting access. If a unit requesting access has a lower priority than indicated on the parallel priority bus, that requesting unit is inhibited from obtaining access. If a requesting unit has higher priority than the signals on the parallel priority bus, that unit in turn causes the priortiy bus to be switched to the higher priority level. The serial priority circuits act together with other serial priority circuits within a group of priority circuits set to the same parallel priority. In this configuration, the parallel priority circuits perform a high-order priority determination while the serial priority circuits perform a low-order priority determination.Type: GrantFiled: October 10, 1979Date of Patent: April 20, 1982Assignee: Magnuson Computer Systems, Inc.Inventor: Robert B. Patent number: 4224733Abstract: Ions are implanted into a body, such as semiconductor substrate material, through one or more covering layers formed over the body. A thin conductive film is in contact with the covering layer prior to the ion implantation. The ions are implanted into the material through the thin conductive film. The conductive film functions to conduct away any charge which tends to accumulate in the covering layer. The conductive film thereby prevents a charge accumulation which would tend to discharge through and cause damage to the covering layer. The method is particularly useful for fabricating MOS and CMOS semiconductor devices.Type: GrantFiled: October 11, 1977Date of Patent: September 30, 1980Assignee: Fujitsu LimitedInventor: Gregorio Spadea
