Patent number: 4549220Abstract: An apparatus for processing an image into binary data is selectively operable with a fixed threshold level and a variable dither threshold level. When a threshold level commmand signal specifies the dither threshold level, a switchover means detects image data read from a character or like black-white image portion on an original document and specific part of a halftone image portion which is approximate in density level to black. The detection output forcibly changes the threshold level command signal from a dither threshold level command to a fixed threshold level command. The dither processing, therefore, occurs only for a minimum necessary halftone image portion in accordance with an image condition on the document.Type: GrantFiled: March 1, 1983Date of Patent: October 22, 1985Assignee: Ricoh Company, Ltd.Inventor: Kazuhiro Suzuki

Patent number: 4517607Abstract: An image compensating method and an apparatus for the same which improves the quality of an image to be reproduced by an image reproduction system. A condition of an observed pixel or object pixel is subjected to MTF compensation to provide clear cut boundaries to an image relative to the background. Then, random noise compensation is effected for the condition of the object pixel after the MTF compensation, taking account of conditions of surrounding pixels or MTF-compensated conditions of the surrounding pixels. This removes smear which might appear in a sheet of paper due to random noise. These two kinds of compensation allows an image to be reproduced to a remarkable quality.Type: GrantFiled: October 29, 1982Date of Patent: May 14, 1985Assignee: Ricoh Company, Ltd.Inventors: Fusakichi Ohkouchi, Kazuhiro Suzuki

Patent number: 4515467Abstract: A magnet brush cleaning apparatus for removing a toner which has been left non-transferred on the surface of a photoconductive element. The residual toner is attracted by and supported on a rotary sleeve on which a magnetic carrier forms a magnet brush. The magnetic carrier separated from the magnet brush and the residual toner are separated from each other by an electrode which is disposed in a circulatory carrier supply path in order to develop an intense electric field. The thus separated carrier is returned to the sleeve. The electrode may take the form of a roller, a plate or a wire. The residual toner on the photoconductive element has its amount of charge reduced in advance by a discharging unit. A substantial amount of the residual toner is scraped off the photoconductive element by a fur brush. A desired amount of the carrier is discharged and replenished automatically in response to lowering of the cleaning ability of the apparatus.Type: GrantFiled: January 12, 1983Date of Patent: May 7, 1985Assignee: Ricoh Company, Ltd.Inventor: Kohji Suzuki
