Abstract: Magnetic tapes are made by applying to a backing film an aqueous dispersion of magnetic particles having dissolved therein cyclic sulfonium zwitterion monomers, magnetically orienting the magnetic particles, drying the coating and curing same. Upon removal of the water and/or moderate heating, the monomers polymerize to form a durable matrix having the magnetic particles dispersed therein.

Abstract: A process for high performance, cation-exchange chromatography employing a cation-exchange composition comprising synthetic resin particles of about 5 to about 200 microns particle size, said synthetic resin particles being cross-linked to from about 0.25 to about 5% and surface-sulfonated to a calculated depth of about 100 to about 300 Angstroms is disclosed.
Abstract: Alkylene diisocyanates of the formula OCN-R-NCO are prepared by heating a compound of the formula ##EQU1## at a temperature of about 200.degree. to about 500.degree. C. wherein --R-- is dimethylene, trimethylene or tetramethylene which may bear lower alkyl substituents. For example, ethylene diisocyanate is prepared by heating ethylene urea N,N'-dicarbonyl chloride at about 350.degree.C.

Abstract: Compounds are prepared having the formulaX -- B -- [--O--A--].sub.n X'(hereinafter referred to as AAE's), wherein X and X' are chlorine or bromine atoms, n is an integer from 1 to about 4, A is a vicinal alkylene group of up to about 8 carbon atoms and may bear a phenyl, chlorine, bromine or hydroxy substituent, and B is a vicinal alkylene group of from 8 to about 18 carbon atoms and may bear a chlorine, bromine or aromatic substituent. The above compounds are prepared by reacting the halogen XX' with a mixture of the B mono-olefin (hereinafter BMO) and the epoxide AO. The compounds are useful as solvents and dielectric fluids.
Abstract: The invention consists of the compounds of the formula ##EQU1## (hereinafter DE), wherein X is chlorine or bromine, A is a vicinal alkylene of from 2 to about 8 carbon atoms which may bear a phenyl, hydroxy, chlorine or bromine substituent and R.sub.1 is an alkylene of from 4 to about 7 carbon atoms, two terminal carbon atoms of which are joined to C' to form a carbocyclic group upon which X- and XAO- are vicinally substituted and m and n are independently 0 or 1.These compounds are prepared by reacting the halogen XX with a mixture of the appropriate vinyl R.sub.1 cycloalkene (hereinafter VCR.sub.1), and the epoxide AO. Such compounds are useful as solvents and as reactants in the production of cycloaliphatic polythiols which are useful in curing polyepoxide resins.
