  • Patent number: 5343207
Abstract: The input ports (18) of an imaging compressive receiver (20) receive from a tapped delay line (16) progressively delayed versions of a received signal s(t). Because of the delays, a signal component in the received signal appears at least at one of the input ports (18) of the compressive receiver (20) at a time when the compressive receiver (20) will detect it, even if the undelayed version occurs during a time at which the compressive receiver (20) would ordinarily be insensitive to it. Since the compressive receiver (20) is an imaging device, it provides relatively isolated channels between its input terminals (18) and its output terminals (38). The phase relationships between the delays in these channels remain constant despite changes in environmental factors, however, because the various channels are embodied in a common two-dimensional delay line.

  • Patent number: 5309412
Abstract: A system for storing and deploying a number of elements sequentially in connected but spaced-apart relationship is described. Adjacent elements are joined together temporarily by connectors which overlay adjacent elements. The connectors are bound to the elements by a plurality of cables, one of which is wound around each element and the overlying connectors. One end of each cable is connected to the element around which it is wound and the other end is connected to the next preceding element. When tension is applied between the cable of the first element and the last element, for example, by connecting an underwater tug to the cable and connecting a drogue to the last element, the cables unwind one by one releasing the connectors and extending the elements in a straight line, spaced apart by the length of the connecting cables.

  • Patent number: 5189368
Abstract: A magnetometer is desclosed in which a gas cell containing atomic vapor is pulse pumped at one of the transitions of the gas in the cell. After the pulse has passed through the gas cell, thereby causing alignment of all the individual atomic moments along the propagation direction of the pulse, a probe beam reads out the Larmor precession frequency of the freely precessing atoms in terms of the frequency of the amplitude modulation of the probe beam caused by the free precession within the gas cell. The system is suitable for laboratory measurements of the absolute value of a magnetic field and for packaging in an expendable battery powered water-born buoy becuase of the low power consumption of the subject system.

  • Patent number: 5175713
Abstract: In order to sense the presence of sound in a remote underwater location, a neutrally buoyant reflector (20) is deployed underwater, and a laser (12) disposed at a remote location aims coherent light at the reflector (20). A detector (24) senses the coherent light reflected from the reflector (20) and compares it in phase with coherent light split from the outgoing beam. The system then provides an indication of the presence of sound by, for instance, amplifying the result of the phase detection to a speaker (26).
