  • Patent number: 8110361
Abstract: Particular aspects confirm the existence of a CpG island methylator phenotype (CIMP) in colorectal cancer, and provide novel validated DNA methylation markers associated with CIMP. Additional aspects provide novel methods and compositions for: determining CIMP status in colorectal cancers, determining the relationship between CIMP status and other molecular features of the cancers (e.g., BRAF mutation, KRAS mutation and MSI status); determining the relationship between CIMP status and other variables (e.g., age, sex, tumor location, family history, race, country of origin, tumor characteristics (including, tumor type, tumor grade, invasive margin characteristics, lymphocyte infiltration characteristics, direct spread, lymph node spread, venous spread and type of residual adjacent polyp, if present)); and determining, between subgroups defined by CIMP status and BRAF mutations, effects of selected risk factors (e.g.

  • Patent number: 8108963
Abstract: A wash bucket for use with detergent and water to ensure that the detergent and water are mixed in a predetermined ratio. The wash bucket has a cup within the wash bucket cavity. In some embodiments the cup is attached to the wash bucket structure and not easily removed by hand. In other embodiments the cup is removably attached to the wash bucket structure. A proper detergent to water ratio is achieved by filling the cup to a point indicated on the cup and then filling the wash bucket to a point indicated on the wash bucket.

  • Patent number: 8102705
Abstract: Techniques for the reading and writing of data in multi-state non-volatile memories are described. Data is written into the memory in a binary format, read into the data registers on the memory, and “folded” within the registers, and then written back into the memory in a multi-state format. In the folding operation, binary data from a single word line is folded into a multi-state format and, when rewritten in multi-state form, is written into a only a portion of another word line. A corresponding reading technique, where the data is “unfolded” is also described. The techniques further allow for the data to be encoded with an error correction code (ECC) on the controller that takes into account its eventual multi-state storage prior to transferring the data to the memory to be written in binary form. A register structure allowing such a “folding” operation is also presented.

  • Patent number: 8100268
Abstract: A chute for inspection and sorting apparatus is disclosed. It comprises two sections; a first, upper section (6) and a lower, grooved section (2). The first section has a smooth, normally polished surface which allows product pieces thereon to move laterally as well as downwards. In the lower section (2) product pieces are restricted in their lateral movement by the grooves (12) and move into alignment with the grooves before being discharged into the inspection zone (22) of the apparatus. If the apparatus is for inspection only, then the product pieces continue to a collection receptacle. If the apparatus is for sorting, then an ejector (26) is included which acts in response to signals from the inspection station to eject selected pieces from the product stream. Those are deflected into a reject receptacle (28) while the remainder proceed into the collection receptacle (24).

  • Patent number: 8103938
Abstract: The quality of data stored in a memory system is assessed by different methods, and the memory system is operated according to the assessed quality. The data quality can be assessed during read operations. Subsequent use of an Error Correction Code can utilize the quality indications to detect and reconstruct the data with improved effectiveness. Alternatively, a statistics of data quality can be constructed and digital data values can be associated in a modified manner to prevent data corruption. In both cases the corrective actions can be implemented specifically on the poor quality data, according to suitably chosen schedules, and with improved effectiveness because of the knowledge provided by the quality indications. These methods can be especially useful in high-density memory systems constructed of multi-level storage memory cells.

  • Patent number: 8103841
Abstract: In a nonvolatile memory with block management system that supports update blocks with non-sequential logical units, an index of the logical units in a non-sequential update block is buffered in RAM and stored periodically into the nonvolatile memory. In one embodiment, the index is stored in a block dedicated for storing indices. In another embodiment, the index is stored in the update block itself. In yet another embodiment, the index is stored in the header of each logical unit. In another aspect, the logical units written after the last index update but before the next have their indexing information stored in the header of each logical unit. In this way, after a power outage, the location of recently written logical units can be determined without having to perform a scanning during initialization. In yet another aspect, a block is managed as partially sequential and partially non-sequential, directed to more than one logical subgroup.

  • Patent number: 8099652
Abstract: A non-volatile memory has its cells' thresholds programmed within any one of a first set of voltage bands partitioned by a first set of reference thresholds across a threshold window. The cells are read at a higher resolution relative to a second set of reference thresholds so as to provide additional soft bits for error correction. The reference thresholds of the second set are set up to be non-uniformly distributed on the threshold window so as to provide higher resolution at designated regions. At the same time they are conducive to be read in groups for soft bits to be read bit-by-bit systematically with a simple algorithm and read circuit and using a minimum of data latches. This is accomplished by relaxing the requirement that the first set of reference threshold is a subset of the second set and that the resulting soft bits are symmetrically distributed about the hard bits.

  • Patent number: 8094500
Abstract: A portion of a nonvolatile memory is partitioned from a main multi-level memory array to operate as a cache. The cache memory is configured to store at less capacity per memory cell and finer granularity of write units compared to the main memory. In a block-oriented memory architecture, the cache has multiple functions, not merely to improve access speed, but is an integral part of a sequential update block system. Decisions to write data to the cache memory or directly to the main memory depend on the attributes and characteristics of the data to be written, the state of the blocks in the main memory portion and the state of the blocks in the cache portion.

  • Patent number: 8095163
Abstract: A system to permit push-to-talk communications in an orthogonal frequency division multiplexed (OFDM) communication network. Individual wireless communication devices that are part of a Group Call are assigned the same set or sets of OFDM tones for a downlink timeslot. Because each wireless communication device receives the same set of tones, each device will receive a communication simultaneously. The assigned OFDM tones need not be contiguous within a block of available tones. Because a large number of OFDM tones are available, the concept may be extended to a large number of groups that each separately support a Group Call function.

  • Patent number: 8085830
Abstract: An ultra-wideband (UWB) system and method provide a local area network (LAN) and/or LAN access. LAN access versions of the UWB system includes an emulator layer and bridge that allow data to be transmitted between a LAN-UWB hybrid device and a LAN network switch, such as an IEEE 802 network switch, through in part a UWB node of a UWB WPAN that can receive UWB super-frames from the LAN-UWB hybrid device. In some implementations the LAN-UWB hybrid device uses Wi-Fi protocol layers above the emulator layer and a WiNet Peer IP PAL layer below the emulator layer.
