A threaded bolt is secured to each plate and extends outwardly from the rubber or urethane sheet at a right angle. The metal plates are vulcanized to the rubber sheet. The pad can be cut to any desired size or shape from a large sheet. The pad can be fastened to any desired surface by means of the bolts.
Abstract: Disclosed is a closed system for the handling of injectable biological products and vaccines used in the treatment and prevention of livestock diseases. This system embodies a prefilled disposable cartridge (44) with disposable needle (48) attached and a metered pistolgrip syringe. The cartridge (44) is breech loaded into the syringe and the product is dispensed from the cartridge by a unique drag link (22) mechanism as a means for advancing the plunger rod (36) and forcing the vaccine from the cartridge (44) into the flesh of animal being treated. Each prefilled cartridge is disposed of after it is emptied and no cleaning is required. A color coding system between the prefilled cartridges 44 and the and the syringe bodies insure that proper dosages are given and that different products are not mixed up or confused with each other by the technicians dispensing the biological products.
Abstract: A method is described for quantitative determination of mercury present in a sample (liquid or solid). The method involves converting mercury compounds to elemental mercury, removing all elemental mercury from the sample in vapor form by means of vacuum, passing the mercury vapor through a column which absorbs and captures all of the mercury vapor by converting it to a halide compound, eluting the mercury halide from the column, and colorimetrically analyzing for the amount of mercury halide collected.
Abstract: Several gate panels are pivotably mounted on top of a dam spillway which are raised against the force of water by inflatable bladders. The bladders are integrally vulcanized envelopes. A unique method of inflatable bladder reinforcement is disclosed. Improvements in connecting the gate panels to the air bladder, to the restraining straps, to each other, and to the dam spillway are disclosed. Improvements in gate panel construction are disclosed.
Abstract: An inflatable rubber bladder is described which has one or more edge portions which are wedge-shaped. The wedges can be metal or rubber, for example, which are bonded on opposite surfaces to adjacent reinforced layers at the edge of the bladder. The edges can be secured in a recess in a support surface or in a clamp.
Abstract: A method for preparing plastic injection mold inserts capable of forming a three-dimensional article in a plastic injection molding process. The method includes (a) forming a master mold insert having a recess therein which has a shape which is complementary to at least a portion of the shape of the three-dimensional article; (b) preparing a temporary reverse mold of the master mold insert; (c) positioning a metal gate in the reverse mold adjacent to and in contact with the article form; (d) introducing a hardenable plastic resin into the reverse mold; (e) allowing the resin to harden to form a mold insert; and (f) removing the mold insert from the reverse mold.

Abstract: A high-speed carbide rotary cutting tool designed for use in the carving, cutting and shaping of most materials including, but not limited to, wood, ferrous and non-ferrous metals, bone, stone, plastics and composites. It is designed for use in high-speed, hand-held rotary grinders, such as flex shaft hand pieces, die grinders, and other high-speed stationary grinding tools, primarily using 1/4 inch and 1/8 inch shaft sizes. The tool includes a triangular solid carbide cutting head shaped for cutting different profiles. The cutting head is brazed to a mandrel in such a manner as to render the tool one piece.
Abstract: A spillway gate system for use as a navigation dam in which individual spillway gates may be serviced. The spillway gate system comprising a spillway including abutments at opposite ends thereof; wherein at least one of the abutments includes a cavity therein having a bottom surface; a removable bulkhead covering the cavity in the abutment; a plurality of water control gates hinged to the spillway; a service crane movable along the spillway and including a dewatering caisson; and a seal for sealing the caisson to the gates and to the bottom surface of the cavity.
Abstract: A packaging system for minimizing thermal-induced stress in a high power semiconductor device. The system is comprised of an electrically insulating, thermally conductive substrate having planar upper and lower surfaces, a semiconductor die having a planar lower heat extraction surface attached to said upper surface of said substrate, and electrically insulating thermal compound disposed between and in contact with the said lower heat extraction surface of said substrate and the system heat extraction upper surface. .DELTA.L.varies..DELTA.S is defined in Equation 12, wherein T.sub.B is the temperature at said outer edge of the lower heat extraction surface of said die, T.sub.D is the temperature at said outer edge of the lower surface of said substrate, and PPM is part per million.
Abstract: A spectrophotometer which accommodates a self-contained sample module. Sample modules are interchangeable and can be readily inserted into, or removed from, the spectrophotometer without tools. Guides in the spectrophotometer assure that the modules are properly aligned when inserted. The module houses the sample(s) to be tested. Sample cell holders may be removed from the module and replaced with other cell holders. When the module is inserted into the spectrophotometer, optical alignment, mechanical alignment, proper electrical connection and software interface are all achieved in one common installation procedure for all sample modules.
Abstract: A portable and collapsible blind or shelter which includes an integral fabric cover having four side walls and a top. Each side wall includes at least one window. One corner of the structure includes a vertical opening to permit ingress and egress from the structure. Each side wall, and the top, is supported in a taut condition by a support member having four resilient and flexible legs connected to a central hub. The perimeter of each side wall and the top is non-stretchable. The legs can pivot away from the hub to collapse the blind structure.
Abstract: A scanning monochromator system which uses a directly coupled stepper motor to drive a spectral-dispersion element. The spectral-dispersion element is directly coupled to the output shaft of the motor. The movement of the motor is controlled with an electronic circuit that controls the motor winding current. The circuit includes a power driven section, a pulse-width modulator section and a computer section. The power driven section switches electrical current through the motor windings and can produce a variable pulse-width ranging from 0 to 100 percent modulation. The pulse-width modulator section accepts values from the computer section and converts these values into variable pulse-width signals for use by the power driver section. The computer section supplies values to the pulse-width modulator section based upon requirements for the motor movement and position. The required motor position is determined by the type of spectral-dispersion element and the desired wavelength selection of the monochromator.
Abstract: An extractor tool for manually loosening and extracting a climber's camming device from a crevice in a rock, for example. The tool includes a barrel having one or more hooks on one end and a plunger within the barrel. The tool can be attached to the handle of a camming device within a crevice and the plunger can be operated so as to cause the cams of the camming device to become retracted to thereby free the camming device from the crevice.
Abstract: Apparatus and method are described for selective cutting of the transverse carpal ligament of a patient. The instrument includes spaced-apart teeth which are supported on a first arm and a press member which is carried by a second arm. The teeth are prevented from contacting tissue when the first arm is inserted into, or retracted from, the carpal tunnel. After insertion of the first arm into the carpal tunnel, the teeth are exposed to the transverse carpal ligament and the first and second arms are moved towards each other to force the teeth into the transverse carpal ligament to perforate the ligament and enable it to elongate.
Abstract: A high performance classifier system for use in a pulverizer mill (e.g., a mill used to crush large coal particles into small particles). The classifier system includes a cylindrical extension member with a roughened interior surface. Other permitted features include a converging/diverging orifice on the interior surface of the mill body, curved classifier vanes at the upper end of the classifier, and tilted vanes between the mill housing and the upper end of the classifier. Improvements in efficiency of particle separation are achieved.
