  • Patent number: 5637866
Abstract: The invention comprises a method, apparatus and equipment for detecting the hit location of a projectile passing through a target plane. A light source generates at least two zones of light which subtend between them a specified angle. The light zones sweep the target plane, illuminating a projectile crossing the target plane and casting a shadow of the projectile onto a screen, preferably a difuse, ground-glass screen.

  • Patent number: 5630511
Abstract: A dispensing box for the continuous feed of fan-folded paper to a printer or other device. The box has opposite side walls, a bottom and an open top, and a lid covering the open top. A narrow slot is formed through the lid, extending from one side to the other adjacent one end of the box, and a free end of the fan-folded paper is fed through the slot from inside the box to a printer or other device. A roller is positioned inside the box adjacent the slot for guiding movement of the paper and smoothing its movement as it is pulled from the box by the printer or other device.

  • Patent number: 5629679
Abstract: A portable personal security device of compact size capable of being carried in a pocket or purse or the like, has a pistol-like configuration with a handgrip portion and a barrel portion. The device includes a noxious chemical which may be discharged to fend off an attack by an assailant, and an audible alarm which may be sounded to attract attention and/or to discourage an attacker. Further, a light is provided on the device so that it can be used as a flashlight. A plurality of finger-receiving openings are formed in the handgrip portion to effect a secure grip on the device and make it difficult to dislodge from the hand of the user. These openings also assist in quickly and properly orienting the device. An actuator for energizing the light, the chemical discharge and the audible alarm includes structure which enables sequential activation of these devices.

  • Patent number: 5613827
Abstract: An article stacking apparatus, especially for stacking and forming packages of lumber, includes a plurality of elongate, parallel stacker arms for engaging and lifting courses of lumber onto a stack consisting of multiple courses to form a package. The stacker arms are oriented parallel to the direction of movement of lumber conveyed to the stacking apparatus, and transverse to the longitudinal axis of the lumber, and are spaced so that each piece of lumber spans at least two arms to be supported thereby. The stacker arms each have a rearward end carried by a drive chain disposed around a pair of spaced sprockets, and a forward end positioned to engage and lift a course of lumber as it is formed in the apparatus, for deposit of the course onto a stack.

  • Patent number: 5613549
Abstract: An adaptor-retainer for quickly and easily selectively securing either a temperature sensor or a sealing plug in an opening in an automotive vehicle radiator header, depending upon whether that vehicle is or is not to be provided with a temperature sensor. The adaptor-retainer includes a retainer bushing having an inner end adapted to be secured and sealed in the opening, and a threaded outer end. A sealing bushing is adapted to be engaged in the retainer bushing for sealing cooperation with either the sealing plug or the sensor, whichever is installed, and a threaded retainer cap is adapted to be engaged on the threads of the retainer bushing to secure and seal either the sealing plug or the sensor in the retainer bushing by clamping it between the retainer cap and the sealing bushing.

  • Patent number: 5600855
Abstract: A decorative cover for the adjusting straps on a cap of the type having overlapping adjusting straps in the back, wherein the cover is made from a flat sheet of material folded to define looped ends and generally parallel front and back panels. The panels are adapted to be disposed on opposite sides of the adjusting straps with the looped ends disposed in proximity to one another. Removable fasteners are received in the looped ends to retain the folded sheet of material in place on the adjusting straps. Advertising or other promotional material or decorative items may be placed on the front panel. In one form of the invention, the fasteners are bobby-pin-shaped spring clips which are inserted into opposite ends of the looped ends. In another form of the invention, the fasteners are magnets which are received in the looped ends so that the looped ends are held together when they are placed in proximity with one another.
