  • Patent number: 5502655
Abstract: A first-in first-out (FIFO) memory includes flag generation circuitry indicating the relative fullness of the memory. A write and a read counter count the number of read and write clock signals used to read to and write from the memory. A subtractor circuit receives the values in the counters as inputs, and generates a difference signal as an output. This difference signal is then compared to a program value, and a flag generated indicating the relative magnitudes of the difference value and the program value. Several different program values can be utilized to generate several different flags for the memory.

  • Patent number: 5500369
Abstract: A hand-held portable sampler uses a vacuum to induce the flow of air into an air chamber and around a deflector plate mounted substantially transverse to the overall airflow pattern and with edges thereof close to the surface of nutrient material contained in culture containers between opposite sides of the enclosure and the deflector plate to define a constricted air passage. Particulates in the air are caused to impact the surface of nutrient material contained in culture containers as air is deflected through the constricted area. The venturi effect of the constricted area causes turbulence downstream to continue the process of impacting particulates in the nutrient material downstream from the constricted area of the air deflector.

  • Patent number: 5499774
Abstract: In a wire pull-in apparatus in which a wire to be coated passes repeatedly through individual work units of a wire enameling facility, band rollers (5, 6, 7) are coaxially mounted before the faces of wire guide roller blocks (2, 3, 4) about which the wire to be coated runs, with an endless band (1) bearing a fastening portion (8) and being guided in untwistable fashion about the band rollers. The wire shifting rollers (9) and (10) are located before each wire guide roller block (2) and (3) and are axially parallel thereto. The wire to be pulled in is fixed on the fastening portion (8) and is placed about the wire guide roller blocks (2, 3, 4) by rotation of the endless band (1). After each full rotation of the endless band (1), each new wire loop placed about the wire guide blocks is shifted laterally a certain distance on the wire guide blocks by rotation or axial shifting of the wire shifting rollers (9, 11) so that room is always made for the placing of a further wire loop.

  • Patent number: 5498049
Abstract: A security enclosure or trunk for luggage, tools and other property, particularly adapted for use with utility vehicles such as light duty trucks having hinged tailgates. The enclosure is adapted to be hinged to the vehicle tailgate and disposed in the vehicle loadbox when the tailgate is in a closed position. The enclosure may be moved with the tailgate to its open position to provide maximum cargo storage space in the loadbox. Access to the enclosure is obtained by opening the tailgate while leaving the enclosure in or moving it to its upright position supported on the vehicle cargo deck.

  • Patent number: 5492721
Abstract: Enamelled wire is produced using almost solvent-free fusible resins. Molten resin is pumped from a supply reservoir against the direction of movement of the wire with part of the resin coating the wire. The raw wire is preheated to a temperature near the melting temperature of the molten resin. Excess resin is returned to the supply reservoir after the resin coating the wire has been calibrated to a predetermined circumferential dimension. The resin coating the wire is then hardened. The coating apparatus includes a raw wire guide, a demineralized water bath, an annealing furnace having a protective steam atmostphere, a cooling water bath, a wire preheater, an enameling stove, a heated resin reservoir, a resin applicator and a winding-on machine. The resin coating is applied under closed system conditions, thereby substantially reducing emissions.

  • Patent number: 5488905
Abstract: A vacuum-type sheet transfer apparatus for a rotary printing press includes an air dam device formed by an elongated plate which is supported on the transfer apparatus housing and extends toward the surface of a transfer cylinder or impression cylinder of the press. Spaced apart openings are formed in the plate and have deflectable elastomeric flaps disposed in the openings to allow the cylinder gripper fingers to pass by the plate. An air dam or seal is formed by the plate to redirect the flow of air to urge sheets, including lightweight and heavy weight stock, to follow a preferred transfer path between the impression cylinder and the vacuum transfer apparatus.

  • Patent number: 5485733
Abstract: A magnetic lock has a latch magnet positioned on a pivotal latch. An axial section of the pivotal latch is attached pivotally to a latch housing at a latch axis. The latch housing is attached to an inside of a compartment closure that is closeable against a frame to which a latch plate is attached. A plate-contact end of the pivotal latch is extended outward radially from the axial section of the pivotal latch. An axial-end magnetic pole of the latch magnet is positioned proximate the axial section of the pivotal latch. An actuation-end magnetic pole of the latch magnet is positioned proximate the plate-contact end of the pivotal latch. A reset magnet is positioned on the latch housing at an opposite side of the latch axis from a latch-plate side of the pivotal latch. Magnetic poles of the reset magnet are positioned in like-pole-to-like-pole relationship to the latch magnet, such that the reset magnet repels the latch magnet to actuate the pivotal latch in a direction of engagement with the latch plate.

  • Patent number: 5467891
Abstract: A beverage container insulator has an outer, vinyl coated, flexible plastic foam sleeve member open at both ends and having inwardly curved ends with re-entrant edges. A substantially rigid cup-shaped plastic inner liner, shorter than the sleeve member, is disposed in the sleeve member with an interference fit between the liner and sleeve member. A top edge of the liner has a radially projecting flange to add rigidity and aid in retaining the liner within the sleeve member. The liner has a vacuum break opening in a transverse bottom wall to provide for ease of insertion, retention and removal of a beverage container with respect to the insulator.

  • Patent number: 5466367
Abstract: A waste water treatment system is illustrated which can be configured to be portable and which minimizes the addition of solids to be disposed of through the use of ozone for contaminant reduction to basic elements after the pH value of the waste water to be treated is properly adjusted. This ozone in one stage is combined with ultrasound to cause coagulation and precipitation. In another stage, ozone and ultraviolet light are used in a reduction process. Ion alignment using a magnetic field and an electrochemical flocculation process to which the waste water is subjected causes further coagulation and precipitation. As designed, the system can operate continuously with redundancy at appropriate points so that removal of solids from the filtration units can occur simultaneous with the overall decontamination process.
