  • Patent number: 5295538
Abstract: A sintered metal screen is releasably suspended from a packer mandrel by a locking mandrel and a landing nipple. The sintered metal screen and locking mandrel are retrievable with the assistance of a running tool which is insertable into the bore of the locking mandrel. According to this arrangement, the sintered metal sand screen can be removed and replaced without retrieving the packer or the production tubing. In one embodiment, the sintered metal screen is enclosed within the bore of a sliding side valve. The sliding side valve can be opened and closed as desired for selectively admitting production from various producing zones, or for isolation of a damaged screen. In another embodiment, an auxiliary sintered metal screen is inserted into the bore of a primary screen, for example, a conventional wire-wrap sand screen.

  • Patent number: 5294829
Abstract: A molded device package supports a volatile memory chip and a replaceable backup battery for preserving data in the event of loss of main power supply. The package includes an external socket for receiving a replaceable backup battery which can be manually inserted into or removed from the socket after molding encapsulation and metal trim work have been completed. The socket is intersected by an exposure cavity which permits the positive and negative terminals of a backup battery to engage positive and negative finger leads. The positive and negative battery terminals are engaged by resilient terminal contact portions of the positive and negative finger leads which project into the exposure cavity. Socket shoulder portions and a retainer cap hold a backup battery within the socket and in electrical contact with the resilient terminal contact portions.

  • Patent number: 5291845
Abstract: A cover plate assembly for covering an access opening formed in a boat deck includes a cover plate for covering the access opening and engaging the exposed side of the deck which frames the access opening. A resilient O-ring gasket carried on the underside of the cover plate is compressed by the cover plate against the exposed surface of the deck. The cover plate and resilient seal are held in place by a retainer bar which is inserted through the access opening and engages the hidden side of the deck on opposite sides of the access opening. The cover plate is coupled to the retainer bar by a screw fastener which has a torque shaft and a manually operable handle. The torque shaft has a threaded shank coupled in threaded engagement with the retainer bar, and the torque shaft projects through the cover plate with the handle engaging the exposed side of the cover plate.

  • Patent number: 5289034
Abstract: A premolded battery package supports a volatile memory chip and a replaceable backup battery for preserving data in the event of loss of main power supply. The package includes an integrally formed external socket for receiving a replaceable backup battery which can be manually inserted into or removed from the socket after molding encapsulation and metal trim work have been completed. The socket assembly includes an interface battery cavity which permits the negative terminal of a backup battery to engage a negative power finger lead. The positive battery terminal is engaged by a resilient terminal contact portion of a positive finger lead which projects externally of the molded package. The terminal contact portion of the positive power lead serves as a retainer in combination with socket shoulder portions for retaining the backup battery within the socket.

  • Patent number: 5288074
Abstract: A hook shaped or generally concave hip-turn restrictor provides for maximizing the differential angle between a golfer's shoulder and hip so that an increased torsional force will be transferred from the golfer's torso to a golf ball. The generally concave member receives and engages a golfer's hips and is rotatable about a pivot axis but for a stop member which limits rotation of the generally concave member during the backswing of a golf swing.

  • Patent number: 5282587
Abstract: A device and method is disclosed whereby a protective cover is positioned on the upper surface of an aircraft wing. The cover comprises a lightweight, ultraviolet stabilized material which is resistant to propagation of tears and does not absorb water. Cover material, overhanging the leading or trailing edges of the wing, is locally out-out in the area of protuberances to assist in providing a form-fit when a plurality of cinch straps, attached to the leading and trailing edges, are tightened under the wing. Additional straps may be employed to secure the cover to the fuselage. The cover, when tightened, prevents significant ingress of air, protecting the upper surface.

  • Patent number: 5283717
Abstract: A circuit assembly includes a finger lead assembly having structure for supporting an interposer substrate assembly and an electronic circuit device, the substrate assembly having conductive elements for providing electrical connection between finger leads of the lead assembly and respective circuit sections within the circuit device. The circuit device is mounted proximate to an upper surface of the substrate assembly. At least one decoupling capacitor is mounted on a lower surface of the substrate assembly at a level below that of the finger leads and electrically connected, through circuitry within the substrate assembly including inter-level via connectors, to respective circuits within the circuit device.

  • Patent number: 5280415
Abstract: An illuminated chart holder for aircraft use has upper and lower light transmitting plates, the upper plate having a flat top surface and a concave-shaped bottom surface, and the lower plate having a flat bottom surface and a convex-shaped top surface, which is shaped to mate with, but to be spaced from, the bottom surface of the upper plate, with the top surface of the upper plate being generally parallel to the bottom surface of the lower plate, the plate assembly being covered on all four sides with reflecting material, and with the assembly of plates having a display portion and a light source pocket; at least one light reflecting surface either above or below the bottom plate in the light source pocket; at least two bulbs of a first color (e.g. white) and at least two bulbs of a second color (e.g. ANVIS green) in the light source pocket; and variable resistors connected to control intensity of the lights.

  • Patent number: 5272953
Abstract: A musical instrument string winder for engaging a musical instrument knob (e.g. guitar knob) for tightening or loosening a musical instrument string includes a knob socket and a turning handle. The knob socket has an integral gear on one end and a recess for engaging a musical instrument knob on another end. The handle has an integral gear on one end and a substantially flat gripping portion on another end. The handle gear has a predetermined number of teeth which is at least more than half the number of teeth on the knob socket integral gear. A gear housing supports first and second idler gears, with the handle integral gear being engaged with the first idler gear, and with the knob socket integral gear being engaged with the second idler gear. The musical instrument string winder thus provides more than one rotation of the musical instrument knob for every one rotation of the handle.

  • Patent number: 5271461
Abstract: An inflatable stimulation tool designed to be deployed by coil tubing having a shuttle valve which reciprocates within the bore of a tubular mandrel. The shuttle valve, in cooperation with a reciprocally movable outer mandrel which is disposed about an inner mandrel, opens and closes various ports in the device to alternately seal and unseal the inflatable packer element. The shuttle valve also operates to open and close a flow passage through the inner mandrel to permit the passage of various stimulation fluids through the tool and into the well bore.Upon deflation of the inflatable packing means, which leaves the packing means in a somewhat distended state, the element is urged to its original close relationship with the mandrel by a return spring which cooperates with the lower tool structure to which one end of the rubber packing element is clamped to longitudinally stretch the element.

  • Patent number: 5269332
Abstract: A tubular storage container is adapted for storage and deployment a flexible protective sheet for covering an object. The protective sheet is stowed within an inner chamber of the storage container in a collapsed state. The stowed protective sheet is deployed through an open end of the storage container. An attachment bracket mounted on one end of the storage container secures the storage container to a selected supporting base. A supporting line is connected to the sheet for retracting the sheet from the deployed position and pulling the sheet into the inner chamber of the storage container for storage.

  • Patent number: 5269635
Abstract: By utilizing two inlet pumps and one discharge pump, and controlling the speed of the discharge pump, the pressure in a slurry processing unit can be controlled to facilitate measurement and handling of compressible slurry. It has been found that multiple specific gravity measurements with water injection between the measuring stations can provide an accurate indicate of clear water to be added, even though the slurry is compressible and of varying composition, by allowing controlled undershooting of the required water at one or more injection stations, followed by accurate specific gravity measurement under closely controlled pressure and flow rate conditions, followed by a small final clear water addition.
