    Abstract: A copolymer composition that includes a copolymer comprised of at least 30 mol % of residues having the following alternating residues from a donor monomer and from an acceptor monomer. The copolymer contains at least 15 mol % of an isobutylene type donor monomer and at least 15 mol % of an acrylic monomer as an acceptor monomer. The copolymer is substantially free of maleate or fumarate monomer segments and the copolymer composition is substantially free of Lewis acids and transition metals. Also disclosed is a thermosetting composition that includes a reactant comprising functional groups, a crosslinking agent having at least two functional groups that are reactive with the functional groups first reactant, and a copolymer flow control agent that includes the copolymer composition as well as substrates coated with the thermosetting composition.

Methods for improving retort resistance and resistance to tropical decay are also disclosed, as are substrates coated with the present compositions.

A paste containing these polymer additives is also disclosed. Methods for using these compositions are also disclosed, as are methods for reducing the gloss of an E-coat composition.

The coating composition comprises a unique blend of particles, including alumina that has been treated with an organosilane and silica that is either similarly treated or left untreated. The use of these particles in combination allows for a significant reduction in the weight percent of wear resistant particles that can impart a suitable level of abrasion resistance to a coating. The particles can be included, for example, in a urethane acrylate binder that can be cured using UV radiation. Methods for using these coatings are also disclosed.

    Abstract: A transportable container for fluidizable solids includes a storage container adapted to contain the fluidizable solids is disclosed. The storage container defines an air inlet port for introducing fluidizing air into the storage container and a solids outlet port for discharging the solids from the storage container. A solids outlet conduit may be connected to the solids outlet port for supplying the solids to a downstream process or apparatus. An agitator is provided at the bottom end of the storage container for mixing and maintaining homogeneity of the solids in the fluidizing air. A fluid permeable fluidization membrane is disposed in the storage container below the agitator. The fluidization membrane defines an air chamber below the solids for introducing the fluidizing air into the solids.

When drying or semi-drying oils are used, the molecules of the present invention exhibit a dual cure, both oxidative and free radical. The substrate does not need to be phosphated or subjected to any other conversion coating prior to treatment. The process includes contacting the substrate surface first with a solution comprising a Group IIIB and/or IVB metal-containing compound and a nitrate, and then with a second solution comprising a reaction product of an epoxy and an amine, phosphorus or sulfur-containing compound. A film-forming resin is then deposited on the substrate and cured. Substrates treated by the process of the present invention demonstrate excellent corrosion resistance and are also disclosed herein.

    Abstract: A curable emulsion coating composition essentially free of chromium is provided. The composition comprises a continuous waterborne phase and a discontinuous phase. The discontinuous phase comprises at least one water-insoluble, particulate film-forming thermoplastic resin, at least one water-insoluble, film-forming thermosetting resin, and at least one water-insoluble alkali metal salt of a heavy metal-containing acid. The heavy metal may be selected from titanium, zirconium, and mixtures thereof. The heavy metal salt is present in the coating composition in an amount of 0.05 to 15 percent by weight, based on the total weight of the composition. The composition is suitable for use over a variety of metal substrates as a pretreatment coating or as a direct-to-metal primer. Also provided is a process for coating a metal substrate by contacting the substrate with the curable composition described above and heating the coated substrate to a peak metal temperature of 170 to 350° F. (77 to 177° C.).
