  • Patent number: 5480211
Abstract: A highchair apparatus for attachment to an elevated member, such as a table or the like. At least a portion of a frame supporting the highchair apparatus engages an upper surface of the elevated member. A clamping member, pivotally attached to the frame pivot housing at a first pivot, engages a lower surface of the elevated member and clamps the highchair apparatus to the elevated member. A cam member, pivotally attached to the frame pivot housing at a second pivot, restrainably secures the highchair apparatus to the elevated member, by engaging the clamping arm upon movement of the cam member from a substantially nonengaging position to a substantially engaging position, causing the clamping member to securely engage the lower surface of the elevated member, and further serving to lock the clamping member in secure engagement with the lower surface of the elevated member.

  • Patent number: 5479100
Abstract: An apparatus and method for detecting anomalies in ferrous pipe structures is presented. An electrical current is passed through the ferrous pipe structure so as to create a magnetic field in the pipe. A sensor having one or more sensor shoe members is placed in the interior of a ferrous pipe structure to be inspected. Each sensor shoe member has one or more magnetometer elements for detecting the magnetic fields in the region of the ferrous pipe structure adjacent to which the sensor shoe member is placed.

  • Patent number: 5479440
Abstract: The present invention comprises an apparatus and method for substantially canceling impulsive noise from data. Such substantial cancellation is achieved by converting the time-domain data into its corresponding frequency spectrum, such that the impulsive noise threshold can be determined. Once such threshold is determined, all frequency components less than this threshold are canceled with the resulting spectrum being converted back to the time-domain. This substantially impulse free signal can then be substituted into the original signal where the impulsive noise occurs, thus, resulting in a signal having minimally distorted data that is substantially devoid of any impulsive noise. This signal may be further processed by an adaptive filter stage to substantially remove any remaining noise from the signal.

  • Patent number: 5476101
Abstract: An apparatus for the automated and facilitated handling and operation of a biopsy needle system, having a first needle component and a second needle component. The first and second needles are provided with first and second handles, respectively, which are fitted into first and second yokes of the apparatus. The apparatus is configured to maintain the first and second needles in a first position, during insertion of the biopsy needle point into the tissue being sampled. The apparatus is further configured to forwardly move the first and second needles into subsequent positions, respectively, in rapid, automated succession so as to segment and enclose a tissue sample, which may be tested after removal of the biopsy needle system from the tissue.

  • Patent number: 5474383
Abstract: A flexible, sealable container apparatus having a substantially pinch-bottomed configuration prior to expansion of the bag during cooking. The container apparatus includes substantially quadrilateral regions of adhesive. The shape and positioning of the quadrilateral regions, with diagonals substantially collinear to panel edges of the container apparatus, serves to articulate the container apparatus into a substantially rectangular-bottomed configuration during cooking, while improving the integrity of the bottom region seals against blowout and/or leakage.

  • Patent number: 5473910
Abstract: A gas engine driven heat pump system including an apparatus and method for exhaust gas dispersion and condensate removal which disperses and mixes exhaust gases more effectively to prevent local icing, inhibit frosting of outdoor heat exchangers, reduce engine noise, and mask exhaust odors, and which removes and treats condensate to further inhibit frosting and corrosion. Dispersion and condensate removal are achieved with exhaust gas distribution and condensate draining features incorporated into the exhaust system of the present invention, and with a fan compartment structure which promotes more complete mixing of exhaust gases and ambient air, while housing both the exhaust system and the outdoor heat exchanger.

  • Patent number: 5471972
Abstract: A self-cleaning gas-fueled oven for cooking with a flameholder and door which permit self-cleaning at temperatures exceeding 900.degree. F. The flameholder has a grille divided into two opposed, substantially flat portions, each of which contains an array of ports of two distinct sizes. The smaller-sized ports are tapered, increasing in cross-sectional area in the direction of gas flow through the grille. The oven door has a lip extending substantially perpendicularly from the door's sidewalls so as to overlap the periphery of the door's inner panel.

  • Patent number: 5464798
Abstract: A zeolite composite membrane apparatus and method for preparing a novel continuous zeolite composite membrane. The method described results in formation of a thin polycrystalline continuous zeolite layer on the inner wall of a substrate container. The container may be a cylinder. After calcination, the zeolite composite membrane shows high permeability and high selectivity for single gas and for vapor/gas mixtures. The zeolite composite membrane formed has improved separation characteristics of shape selectivity and selective adsorption. The geometry of the membrane provides a high permeation area to volume ratio. The membrane is useful for high temperature gas separations and for membrane reactor applications.

  • Patent number: 5462488
Abstract: An integrated card and business form assembly and method for fabricating same on a label formation equipment, or the like. The assembly comprises a first layer of material and a second layer of material adhesively attached to each other. The second layer of material has at least one card member and a surrounding border region, wherein the top and bottom surfaces of the at least one card member are substantially co-planar with the top and bottom surfaces, respectively, of the surrounding border region. The at least one card member is detachable from the first layer of material without any substantial migration of adhesive to the bottom surface of the at least one card member--so as to substantially preclude tackiness to the bottom surface of the at least one card member.

  • Patent number: 5460850
Abstract: Apparatus for internally coating a pipe, comprising means heating a pipe as it is internally spray coated, a plurality of first rollers mounted on a first rotatable shaft having an inlet end proximate the heating means and an outlet end spaced from the heating means, and a plurality of second rollers mounted on a second rotatable shaft parallel to the first shaft and having an inlet end adjacent the heating means. Each second roller is spaced from and adjacent to a corresponding first roller in a paired relationship to thereby define a nesting groove located above the gap between each set of paired rollers. Motive means rotates the shafts and the mounted rollers to rotate the pipe within the nesting grooves of adjacent pairs of rollers. Advancing means longitudinally advances the pipe through the heating means and sequentially along the nesting grooves of adjacent pairs of rollers.

  • Patent number: 5458393
Abstract: A space frame apparatus, and process for constructing same, for use in the construction of various vehicles. The apparatus comprises one or more continuous outer frame members, each fabricated from a single longitudinal extrusion, and one or more cross-members. The extrusions include a predetermined number of slots for operable acceptance of the ends of the corresponding cross-members, as well as a predetermined number of regions softened through a localized heat induction process. The softened regions are bent to varying radii in predetermined directions relative to the profile of a specific vehicle configuration and then allowed to harden back toward their pre-softened hardness. The ends of the cross-members are also softened through a localized heat induction process, and then deformed so as to create a collar and flange portion operably positioned on opposite sides of each respective slot for securely maintaining the cross-members to the one or more continuous outer frame members.
