Abstract: A generator absorber heat exchanger (GAX) heat pump, such as may be used for heating and cooling an inhabited space, having a valving arrangement for converting from a GAX cycle operation to a liquid heat exchanger (LHE) cycle operation when the ambient temperature drops below a predetermined ambient temperature, and for returning to GAX cycle operation when the ambient temperature increases above a predetermined ambient temperature.
Abstract: A high speed/low overhead bus arbitration apparatus for allocating system bus mastership in a system containing two processing devices. The apparatus includes control logic which controls the access of each of the processing devices to the system bus. The apparatus further includes a multiplexer for selecting the control information presented on the system bus based upon the state of the control logic. The apparatus finally includes a latch for alternatively passing through to and latching onto the system bus, based upon the state of the control logic, an address, which is driven by only one of the processing devices. The control logic transfers access to the system bus from the first processing device to second when the second requests access and the bus is not busy, preventing both processing devices from contending for the system bus by forcing the driving processor device to relinquish the address lines prior to completion of the current bus cycle.
Abstract: A juvenile seat cradle bouncer apparatus of the type having a base portion and a back support member operably attached to the base portion. The back support member is pivotally positionable relative to the base portion between a substantially collapsed orientation and one or more upright angular orientations. Retention members are associated with the base portion for releasably retaining the back support member in a desired one of the upright angular orientations. A foot support member is operably associated with the back support member, and is pivotally attached to the base portion.
Abstract: An improved syringe apparatus for use with interchangeable, disposable medicinal ampoules is provided with an advantageous mechanism for facilitated, one-handed operation in the ejection of a spent ampoule. The improved construction also includes a needle ejector projection for one-handed ejection of the used, disposable needle assembly. An improved cap apparatus for covering the needle assembly is also provided.
Abstract: A heat pump system utilizing a simplified configuration having a single adsorbent reactor structure is disclosed. In a preferred embodiment, a carbon-ammonia adsorbent-reactant combination is employed. Heating and cooling of the reactor is accomplished directly by heating and cooling of the ammonia.

Abstract: An apparatus for supporting an article in shock-isolating, spaced relation to the walls of a container is provided. A support wall and a plurality of lateral support members define a partial enclosure for receiving the article. Corner support members secure the support wall and the lateral support members in the configuration defining the enclosure. Spacer support members extend from the lateral support members to position the article receiving enclosure in spaced relation away from the walls, the top and the bottom of the container, to provide shock-isolation for protecting the article supported, capped and at least partially received by the apparatus.

Abstract: A vocal frequency suppression apparatus for suppressing selected portions of a vocal signal to prevent inadvertent control of components controlled by dual tone multi-frequency ("DTMF") codes. The vocal frequency suppression apparatus includes a DTMF code generator having a plurality of user-selectable switches. The apparatus further produces a vocal signal which may contain vocal frequencies which correspond to at least one frequency of at least one of the DTMF codes. The apparatus includes a device for suppressing one or more of the vocal frequencies which correspond to frequencies found in the DTMF codes to prevent inadvertent control of any DTMF controlled components by the vocal signal. The suppression device is operably located between the producing device and the DTMF generator.
Abstract: A burner apparatus for combustion of gaseous fuel and air, for use in range-top type environments, is provided. The burner apparatus includes a burner housing, an inlet, a combustion chamber, and a heat absorbing and radiating quarl surrounding the outlet to the combustion chamber. The burner apparatus is advantageously configured so as to provide for substantially uniform heating of an object supported above the combustion chamber, through a combination of convective and radiative heat transfer.

Abstract: A method for percutaneous sealing of punctures in arterial and venous blood vessels is provided. After catheterization of any vessel or organ for diagnostic or interventional procedures or endoscopic or orthopedic procedures involving the intentional puncture and penetration of a vessel wall, or the accidental puncture of a vessel wall, separate solutions containing fibrinogen and thrombin, respectively, are introduced into the tissue surrounding the puncture site. The solutions are allowed to mix forming a semisolid gel at the time of application at the puncture site. The gel further hardens around the site to seal the puncture closed preventing the leakage of blood. Solutions of antibiotics and epinephrine as well as agents that slow clot breakdown may be included in the mixture. An apparatus for accomplishing the method is also disclosed.

Abstract: An electrolytic cell and electrolytic process wherein the cell includes a metal anode (such as a lithium anode), a cathode and an electrolyte. A surface layer which is applied to the metal anode enables transfer of ions from the metal anode to the electrolyte and thus allows the ions to pass back into contact with the metal anode. The surface layer is also electronically conductive so that the ions will be uniformally attracted back onto the metal anode during electrodeposition to, in turn, substantially suppress dendrite growth and, in turn, substantially increase the cycle life of the cell.

Abstract: An antibiotic eluding intramedullary nail apparatus for use in the intramedullary fixation of fractured long bones, such as femurs, tibias, fibulas, humeri, ulnas and radii, as well as other orthopedic and bone reconstructive procedures, and, in particular fractures associated with an open wound exposing the soft tissue and medullary canal of the fractured bone to bacteria and other infectious micro-organisms.
Abstract: An animal warning device for alerting, and in turn warning, various animals, such as deer, through one or more tones audible to animals, that a vehicle, to which the device may be attached, is approaching. A housing member, which supports a speaker, is adjustably attachable to a vehicle. The housing member includes a dispersing region operatively associated with the housing member for dispersing the one or more tones broadcasted out of the speaker in a radiated, spray-like pattern.

Abstract: A collapsible baby chair apparatus for attachment to an elevated member having a top and bottom surface, such as a tabletop or projecting countertop. The apparatus includes a chair member having a seat portion and a back portion, and a pair of frame members which are operably, pivotally attached to each other in a scissors-like orientation. The seat and back portions may be secured in an opened, seating, position and then releasably foldable to a closed position of reduced profile upon release of a biased locking mechanism. The two frame members each include at least two free ends which are pivotally spread apart and/or closed toward each other by manipulation of the frame members in a scissors-like manner--so as to facilitate positioning of the respective free ends adjacent the top and bottom surfaces of the elevated member.
